Secret Service: Man wrote ‘KKK forever’ and threatened to shoot Obamas

Racism is alive and well in this country. It's pathetic that people would want to kill someone based on the color of their skin. Ignorance at its finest.

Why do you ascribe this to racism instead of just to some nut?? Using the actions of a mentally ill freak to confirm that racism is alive and well is silly.

Interesting. so. The Koran and Hadith are full of homicidal hatred, threats, some racial slurs, misogyny and calls for the violent overthrow of just about everything, and well as the slaughter of Jews and followers of non-Abrahamic religions. In other words, a compared to a traditionally observant Muslim, this guy is a piker, wannabe and amateur hater. If he's to be arrested and prosecuted, are we to expect raids on the Mosques soon? Seems that we should, were we to have anything resembling consistency.

Sucks to be that guy, but good going to the Secret Service. Nice to see us be able to easily find and deal with Whackadoo's.

That said, Racism...and all other "isms"...will always be "alive and well" in this country so long as people like you continue to simply focus on individual whackadoo's as "proof" that such is the case, because the tribalist portion of human nature and it's more extreme elements of it will never be fully removed.

the person made specific threats towards an individual, even going so far as outline how he would commit the crime. That's a bit different than a general idea like that which is in the quran and Hadith, which also says nothing about the fact that people can interpret that material in a number of ways

And of course somehow the topic gets drawn to those scary muslims...

I would just say all racists are mentally ill....

Forget your petty "ignorance" initiative. Threatening the life of the President of the United States is serious business. Had the dude succeeded, it would have been a disaster for this country's national security.

That's what you people said would happen when he won the first election. I like how you put blacks all in one category. You also fail to address there would be a lot of white people that would be upset too. When will you racists ever realize he's not the black president but our president?

He IS president of the United States.
I don't like his policies and power grabbing, as I've mentioned before.
I don't want him to be assassinated, and mentioned SOME of my reasons.

A reason I neglected to mention is:
I don't want the USA to be a banana republic where politicians can't buy life insurance.

As to who is being racist, you throw that card far to often and casually.

I voted for Obama in 2008.

My wife is latina and has skin the color of honey.

Sabes senor?

Call me "superior," but I like to leaven these little bouts of hyperemotionalism with the bracing if brutal yeast of Reality.

YUSUFALI: Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

That sounds pretty specific to me, and is one of many, many examples of similar commandments not suggestions,) from Islamic texts.

Now, mind you, I'm not saying that the man described in the original post is in any way blameless or should not be prosecuted, but as the I.R.S. scandals remind us daily, we had better take a good hard look at how our government secretively enforces laws and assesses threats.

I would look up Brandenburg vs ohio

This guy made a direct threat.

You are just trying to shoehorn in your bigotry against Muslims into this thread. You know the Old Testament has some pretty crazy stuff in it too. Maybe you want to tell us about how you think we should go arrest Jews?

"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13)

So you think we should round up Jews now, right? Sounds pretty specific, right?

Maybe I can help your confusion on this:

This is America. We don't arrest people for reading a book.

I can't believe there are people defending this guy. It's like a reflex, "Uh oh, liberals are saying this guy's bad...I better say the opposite...uhh...Muslims! Muslims! Ahhhh!"

who defended him?

who defended him?

The guy quoting Islamic texts is either defending this man or actually believes we should start rounding up Muslims for the heinous crime of reading a book.

Well, you clearly saw it as the later. So I am left wondfering why now you're entertaining the idea it might be a defense of the guy's behavior. Also, despite your earlier comparisons to jews, it's worth noting such fundamentalist views are still popular within Islam. The Jewish community, though they exist, it's more of a periphery thing

It's a periphery thing among Muslims too.

There is no racism in America. It's a libral conspiracy. The only racists in the US are those that call the KKK racist because it's obvious just an organization that promotes white GOP values.

So goes the rightwing noise machine.

No, it really isn't. Polling suggests an average of 10-30% supports for extremists in Islamic majority states. Fundamentalism (death penalty for apostasy) polls much higher, accounting for a clear high majority in places like Pakistan and Egypt

But that doesn't really account for your sudden confusion above ...

The KKK is pretty marginalized universally. And though I am sure some lower key hate groups can operate within the Repub ranks, it's not like the NOI and Farrakhan haven't enjoyed the hospitality of the democrats on more than a few occasions.

Let's face it, such shunning is more based on popular perception weighed against the benefits of courting these groups

There is no doubt Farrakhan should be shunned for his anti-Semitism, and I don't know if I agree with you about Democrats showing him hospitality. I suspect that these are just pseudoevents taken out context by the rightwing noise machine since Farrakhan regrettably has a local presence that has to be taken into account in certain local politics.

I think the real difference is that while the KKK clearly can't operate openly as a GOP support organization, the GOP and conservatives do in fact use racist code to attract white voters, especially in the South and rural areas. The Democrats, in contrast, do not use "Farrakhan" code to attract minorities. They don't have to: they attract voters with policies, not cryptic cultural messages. In contrast, if the GOP was forthright about its policies, it would lose even more voters (which is why GOP-speak tends to involved dodges and dog whistles).

In any case, the conservative meme that racism doesn't exist in the US is another example of GOP rhetoric designed to win over white voters using subliminal coded messages.

I'm not disputing that this is the basis for the interaction, and like I said, it's nothing I see the right being immune to, as well. What my point was that such groups will be tolerated up until the negatives involved with associating with them outweigh the benefits.

PS As for the term "hospitality", I'm not dedicated to it's use here

It's hard for me to actually compare the two, being that if I'm in a conservative group I would be identified with the majority in most cases, while the type of racism often expressed in liberal circles would be the exact opposite

But regardless, the racism I see in many conservative circles can be pretty off-putting, to say the least
