When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects light

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

Yes it is, reflective cheese.
So...... it's not made of cheese?

Of course it is. How do think Kraft sells so much. They have a cheese scooping biz on the moon.

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

Google...he's there believe it or not. You know, just like if you googled: moonlight is actually light from the sun. People in Texas aren't allow to learn things like that.

Kind of like people in North Carolina banning global warming scientific data? Let's bury our head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist?

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

Who the f*ck is Bill Nye?
I dont know but apparently he thinks Obama is a moron for believing in God.

Well, as Drexel said, "I guess it ain't Smart Boy Day."

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects l

yeah, well, I'm not exactly certain the moon is real anyway. I mean, come on. I think the moon is just a giant beach ball, painted with a gray, textured paint. Seriously, look: moon.jpg moon2.jpg

See, look at the bottom left of the moon. See the seams? See the point where the seams all come together? You don't get nuthin' by me. I know ****.

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

1) How in the heck do people not know who Bill Nye is. Did you attend school? Or read the article! He's a world reknown scientist. Simple enough.

2) Do we really need to rehash this? My God! No reason for this to be posted in Breaking News - that's for sure . . . it's old news. . . it did happen - someone was pissed at a speech. . . . how is that a shock so severe people can't imagine its true? Come on - we're talking about people . . . we are entertained by the stupidity of said humans almost every day on DP

3)

It's a real newspaper. It does exist! WacoTrib.com: Central Texas news, all day.

Since some people don't know who he is:

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

As for the OP, I am not one to do this often, but video or it didn't happen.

Really? It's just inconceivable to you that that even one person could perceive this as some kind of attack on the bible and just shut down their thinking process? Of all the stupid, ignorant things you've witnessed in your life, you don't think anybody is this dumb?

Because that's what I think happened. Someone with lacking critical thinking skills heard that Mr Smarty Science Guy say "the bible says this, but in reality" and just immediately went "HES SAYING THE BIBLE IS WRONG! **** THIS GUY!"

Hell, this person probably wasn't even familiar with the verse Nye was quoting.

The OP references a "group of adults", not "one person" so yes, like I said, video or it didn't happen although audio would be suitable as well.

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

Texas is a backwards state anyways. Why any scientist would even give a talk there is beyond me. This is the same state that tried to replace "capitalism" with "free enterprise system" because it put it in a more positive light. The main flaw in the American school system is that we don't have a single standard country wide. We spend twice as much as the next country and still fall behind everyone else in education.

If you even suggest that we should have 1 standard, every ignorant critter comes out of from under the house and cries about how their opinions matter too. This is most prevalent in the sciences. There isn't a scientific debate on evolution, there isn't a scientific debate on the age of the Earth. Scientists have pretty much settled on these issues for decades now. What is a scientific debate? String theory, animal cognition, extraterrestrial life, cold fusion etc. The more complicated the topic gets, the more debate there actually is and the fewer revisionists you find. When you have something as simple as evolution, you have a few million laymen who call themselves experts.

So what are we left with? A country of laymen discussing laymen topics with everyone else passing us by in education. 30 years ago, foreign students were a rare sight on American colleges. Now, they're a staple. Why? Because their countries don't spend half as much time as ours having popular debates on things scientists settled eons ago.

If this is true, it is pretty baffling.... how could anyone take the (correct) assertion that the moon reflects the sun's light as "irreverence"?

I have no idea.

Irreverent to whom?

Since you lefties invented "political correctness", it's rather ironic that you aren't praising them. But then there's more irony when you consider how lefties think they are so tolerant.

Religion would probably be my guess. Science seems to step on a lot of toes every time it has disproved claims made by the religious.

It's not politically incorrect to call capitalism, capitalism. Then again, I don't really expect you to give anything but a nonsensical answer as to why it is necessary to refer to an economic system by anything but its actual name. Unless of course capitalists are ashamed of being capitalists.

I moved to Texas a little over a year ago, just outside of Austin, TX and it is one of the coolest places. The Austin/San Marcos/San Antonio area is great. Have met and hung out with so many just cool, chill people. This is the TX I know: Cerebral Desecration rehearsal - YouTube

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects

Austin is different from other places in Texas. It's more for the younger crowd. It's still in Texas, but I guess if you had to be there, and you were young, it'd be the place to be.

PC was used by the American "left" in an ironic or even sarcastic sense. It was the American right who took it up as a pejorative slogan against any who disagreed with them.

If they booed, it was probably because he was acting like an asshole.

Re: When Bill Nye, the Science Guy, got booed in Texas for saying the moon reflects l

If I was there I would have boo'd him for not understanding the passage. The passage never says the moon emits light, just that it is the source of light at night. Reflected light is still a source of light. Bill Nye is a liberal that tried to twist the words of the Bible in the Bible belt. He should have known he'd get boo'd. He probably did know.

Whoosh, right over your head.

Nye is a scientists and doesn't have to engage in biblical hermeneutics. What is telling is that the weirdo tea baggers in the audience can't accept the fact that the moon doesn't generate its own light because they are weird literalists.

It's telling you would blame Nye for the idiotic literalism of the Christian Right.
