Republicans Altered Benghazi Emails, CBS News Report Claims [W:361]

What leads? Um, specific groups and individuals associated in the attack which multiple agencies are tracking.

You really needed me to explain that to you?

"The CIA agreed with the concerns raised by the State Department and revised the talking points to make them less specific than the CIA's original version, eliminating references to al Qaeda and affiliates and earlier security warnings."

Right. It was THE STATE DEPARTMENT that wanted those points scrubbed even though the FBI had signed off on them. That's called "political spin" and it's the core of the coverup which constitutes the SCANDAL we are discussing.

Yeah, you have no obligation to back up anything, but the point still stands, you choose not to, ergo it is funny to see you whining about "objectivity" when you can't point to any objective evidence for your silly claim.

Altering emails is inexcusable, and anyone with any kind of ethical standard or who values the truth at all would agree with me there. Benghazi has become so covered in political bull**** that most people are never going to know the truth and problems which led to the situation won't get fixed as lawmakers are more worried about what they can turn Benghazi into for the next election. You know who gains from all this political mudslinging? The ignorant, the partisan, and politicians. Everyone else loses, including those people who are still in this dangerous places.

Tell me how does altering emails make people safer? How does blaming Obama 24/7 and spending barely a moment to consider how to actually fix the problem, make anyone safer? No one is talking about how to solve a problem, everyone is talking about who to blame the problem on because politics means more than American lives to most people in both parties. Susan Rice talking about a spontaneous attack when there's mortars involved is damn stupid, and that's inexcusable as well.

Stop worrying about blame, start worrying about solutions and then and only then you might actually do some good with all the noise people are making over this issue, until then it just cheapens and degrades the deaths of those men.

tell us what other group would be interested in modifying them to spin the story against the white house

Poorly executed deflection.

The solution is obvious, send lots of Marines. Next.

No one altered emails. A few members of Congress were shown some of the emails in question on a screen but were not allow to take photos or have copies. The only thing they could do was to take notes as they were being shown or scan them and go from memory on what was seen...

I haven't pushed a thing. Now your adding projection to your subjectivity. The only thing I did was question why the GOP would alter something that is so easily refuted.

I've also posed a question about the veracity of the WH, given the same anonymous sources.

You do realize that Issa has a criminal history don't you?

I guess not. Too much rightwing TV!

Could someone please point out where it says the Republicans altered the emails? I can't find it.
Yes, exactly.

I better title to the thread would be:
"Huffington Post altered CBS News report, analysis concludes."

The Huffpo version of the CBS story: "Republicans released a set with altered text."
The actual story: "Here's what we found when we compared them to the quotes"

The Huffpo version of the CBS story: "One day after The White House released 100 pages of Benghazi emails, a report has surfaced..."
The actual story: <<well, there's actually no mention of a report of any kind>>

This where we part, I don't see (as did the CIA and Petraeus) that removing specific references to suspected terrorist groups from press releases WHILE investigations are still being conducted as being "spin" or "cover up", I call it common sense.

Again, Petraeus stated this was not done for political reasons, ie, not "spin".

Hey look, someone altered the story and blamed a video. We must get to the bottom of this!

Good idea - Call the IRS. No, the DOJ. No, the Associated Press may know, they could check with a few of their reporters.

On the other hand...

According to Woodward actually

Quote me where I said "Watergate wasn't that serious" and while you're at it, show in these emails where the connection is made to a youtube video. Remember Obama and Hillary told the grieving families while they stood next to the coffins containing their loved ones they were killed because of a youtube video. The poor schmuck that created that youtube video still rots in prison today.

Do you care about the Americans killed in benghazi whose deaths could have been prevented? Do you care that your Government whose JOB was to protect them failed and then LIED to their faces?

Yes or No

I care, but no crime was committed. Bad decisions were made. Poor leadership was exercised. Somebody made the worse decision to pretend it was something else.

But lying to the press is not a crime. If you want a crime, focus on the IRS thing.

And if you want to quote where I said it was a youtube video, go for it.

They altered evidence? Are you claiming they photoshoped emails? Please explain how emails from the WH are altered. If emails are alterable, then who's to say the emails released by the WH weren't altered?

Read the article, get educated, report back in.

Meanwhile given Issa's criminal past, he must be the first suspect who needs to be investigated.

but i suspect even you were able to come up with the correct answer

one you would not want to acknowledge

I did read, thus my question, which you can't answer since you decided to make Issa the subject. So now he's a criminal? So you're trying to say Obama is in good company or what? BTW, that article on Issa is a joke, try harder.

The talking points were going to be given to congress. Congress was going to have questions. Since congress represents the interests of the people don't you think they should have as much information as possible so that they can address necessary legislation to keep this crap from happening again?

What we are witnessing with Benghazi is the Executive branch trying to exercise their will without oversight and also without consequences for their actions.

When you see the usual tea party suspects freak out like they are on this thread, you know we're nearing the truth.

I expect in a month, the only thing Americans will remembered about Benghazi will be that it brought down Issa and maybe Boehner for evidence tampering!

Wow, prosecutions for parole violations was really the "full weight of the US govt"....and "hunting him down".

I suppose they would have tracked him down, and hauled him off regardless.

You're desperation to maintain the narrative is noted.

Read the link. He's a car thief. Not to mention he apparently assisted in the Wide Receiver gun walking fiasco, and one has to wonder why he wanted to get guns to Mexican drug lords.

As to the emails, they were altered while in his commission's hand, so it's fair to say one of his operatives altered them.

Talk about a BACK FIRE!

What’s Issa’s word worth? Not much, except as a warning that what you’re hearing may likely be inaccurate. For example, Issa claims he was always given “highest marks” by the Army and had provided “security” to then President Nixon, but a reporter dug into his past and found that Nixon had not even attended the events Issa’ claimed to have provided security for, and Issa was known as a car thief in the army (separate incident from his later more well known arrests for car theft).

Furthermore, “In May of 1998, Lance Williams, of the San Francisco Examiner, reported that Issa had not always received the “highest possible” ratings in the Army. In fact, at one point he “received unsatisfactory conduct and efficiency ratings and was transferred to a supply depot.” Williams also discovered that Issa didn’t provide security for Nixon at the 1971 World Series, because Nixon didn’t attend any of the games.”

Issa was soon after arrested for stealing a red Maserati, but the judge dropped those charges around the time that Issa was arrested in a separate incident for having a .25 Colt and “44 rounds of ammo and a tear gas gun and two rounds of ammo for it.” Just the kind of guy you want leading your party, especially when your party stands for vigilante justice via the NRA. Issa pleaded that case down to a lesser charge.

Just when things started to look up for Issa in the Army, he was arrested yet again for car theft, but this time he was also indicted for grand theft. The prosecution ended up dropping that case after smoke and mirrors coupled denial and some fancy Issa footwork. That didn’t stop Issa from committing hit and run soon after evading prosecution.

After that narrow escape from the law, Issa was suspected by officials of arson and accused of firing an employee by giving him a box with a gun in it. While investigating the arson charges, authorities realized that they could not trace the original capital Issa used to start his business. Shady dealings, but Issa once again managed to escape the law, but not their suspicion. All of this adds up to a great criminal resume for a henchman, and that is what Issa is for the GOP.
