Senate approves online sales tax bill [W:244]

There is no problem once Congress passes this law

You besides the congress lacks the power and the same problem exists where states have found a way outside of their borders.

And you'll be taxed by your state every time you buy something

Yup, and I will be forced to collect taxes for a state I don't even live in.

Keep telling yourself that, but whenever you checkout at an online vendor, you're going to pay sales tax. :lamo

Not if you're selling things in my state. Then you're operating in mine.

They're not selling in your state. You go on the internet to buy from them in their state...

Yes, great argument.

There appears to be a mosquito in the thread...

And we now have a jockstrap to ensure the mosquito has a place to feed...

Seems you are correct and I have misunderstood Internet Tax Freedom Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Nice to know each state will provide free software and all you have to do is set-up 47 different programs. Should be a piece of cake. Maybe QuickBooks will come up with a better solution.

Each state will provide free software to calculate the sales tax to be collected.

There is no legislation that prevents a state from collecting sales tax from online sales, although some states may choose not to collect it I suppose.

Better than the argument that online sales should be magically tax free. Why?

The fright wing wants all goods to be tax-free, including guns sold online without background checks. They have not gotten rid of all government regulation yet but they're on it 24/7. As with their spin machine to create disharmony and sew the seeds of discontent.

Also interesting how this turned into a Liberal vs. Conservative issue with the Liberals supporting the regressive tax and the Conservatives opposing it.

Sometimes, I wonder....

Interesting how conservatives are opposed to states rights, while the liberals support it in this case
