BBC News - Amanda Knox and prison life

This time its her memoir in which she describes prison life as tough, inappropriate behaviour by staff, sexual passes and a humiliating medical exam etc. All of which of course doesn't match what she previously she at the time but hey it's not the first time she has changed previous statements for personal gains. Her interview on American television was interesting to say the least as she wants to change the image often portrayed in the media so the most obvious way to do this is to cash in....

Do you think there is a possibility that she knew her letters in prison would/could be read by Italian officials so she self-edited her comments in them for her own well-being? Kind of like I think it was the Gary Powers guy who had to use Morse code while blinking to let people know he was being tortured even as his words said otherwise.

Her case demonstrates that while the American criminal justice system has many problems, it is still far better than most other places. The Knox case showed how incredibly pathetic the Italian system was-at least for this one case.

That was actually former Senator Jeremiah Denton: Francis Gary Powers was not tortured by the USSR.

I actually read a lot about the case just before she was acquitted and she actually did say the stuff about prison life being though, sexual harassment, et al. before.

Also, I doubt she's trying to "change" her image by doing that interview. Her image isn't particularly bad in the United States. It's just bad in Europe where apparently ****ty evidence passes for guilty nowadays.

EDIT: Although, now that I think, she may have said it right after she got home - not when she was in Italy - and her mother may have relayed that info to the media. I can't remember. Either way, this isn't the first time she said it.

The above thought is about all I can muster regarding this case.

I really have no idea one way or the other regarding her innocence or guilt in the case.
In that regard, I'd probably be a perfect selection for the jury.

if she isn't trying to change her image then why go on national television and give an interview? Why not just try and move on?

She was promoting her book - the book that came with an advance she's used to pay her attorney fees.

It never has, nor has she ever explained why she behaved the way she did after the murder. There are a ton of unanswered questions concerning her, her alibi and what she did.. and yes the Italian police did not do their jobs correctly.. or so it seems.

Italy isn't like most of Western Europe when it comes to views on criminals. Italy's views on inmate treatment probably match closer to Greece/Turkey & Middle Eastern treatments. So while I wouldn't go out and support her claims, I really don't see Italians as being the most caring with their inmates.

I have no doubt that that's how a British person would choose to reduce her actions, LOL.

Well it does seem that the victim is totally forgotten by the American media and Knox herself... hmmzzz.. and you accuse a Brit for wanting justice?

They are a hell of more caring than in American prisons lol. Her description sounds what you get in a standard American prison.

I don't know it it's true or not since I know nothing about European justice systems, but I once read that the American system was concerned with fairness, sometimes at the expense of a just result (i.e. making sure the guilty are punished and the innocent go free) while other systems cared more about a just result than being fair.

Given that different end goal it would seem that the Italians may well be doing the right thing.

She changed her story on numerous occasion and now she is writing a book which conflicts with what she orginally said about her treatment in prison! I mean its not like she could make more money by changing the story because I mean everyone wants to read abut how lovely her prison guards were and how uneventful her stay was in prison.....

Yes, Pete; everything American must be worse.

Like I said before, she had already made these comments about prison either in Italy or right after she came back to the US so you continue to be wrong in saying that she did not. The bottom line is that you and most of Britain have a hard on for hating Knox because Kercher was British. Good for you, but maybe you should just keep that among yourselves.

In the case of prisons... it is. She was a convicted murder.. do you think she would be put in a 4 seasons in the US?

keep that among ourseves? lol because Americans are famous for that....

"Bottom line" is that one of our citizens is dead and most people know that Knox had a part to play that night and yet she is off making money off the back of the tradegy. Stay classy.

Exactly what part did she play in it?

I dont know as I wasn't in the room but their is plenty of evidence that put her in that house the night of. I dont think she put the knife in but I certaintly think she had a key part to play in the events runnign up to her death. Her erratic behaviour in the days after would point to the fact she knew something.

Oh, you "know" she played a part in "that night"? LOL, right. I look forward to the untainted DNA evidence you have to support that assertion. Oh wait, there is none. That's why she was acquitted. LOL

you also have no idea in that part she played for all you know you could be defending a murderer. How to explain her erratic behaviour in the days after?
