Turn a blind eye..they have oil..

Not really. Thats why I want us to use our own oil & the Canadian oil !! Seems like a no-brainer. No wonder our govt can't figure it out !!!

Actually the good ol' USofA only gets approx 13% of it's oil from the Persian Gulf. The Far East gets over half the crude oil production, about the same in refined oil production.

Makes some wonder why we spend all the blood and treasure for a tiny fraction of the oil produced. Since the average citizen doesn't profit at the pump from the huge drain on our taxes does make me wonder who does.... ;)

Valid point!

I'm thinking politicians for one.:(

OK, the odds of the US "cutting ties" to Mexico and China are? Get real.

Cutting ties to Mexico wouldn't be too hard.

China is a different story for sure considering they own a substantial part of us already.

Doesn't mean we can't be working in that direction though.

A truly independent USofA would be the strongest, safest, and most efficient USofA.

Chump change.... think HUGE, think multinational, think like an exploitative corporation that holds the rights to produce/ supply Middle East oil. Some one is making a literal King's ransom producing that oil for everyone but us.

Why would a politician profit from a minor source of domestically consumed resource? Why would we station so much of our Armed Forces in a place where so little of that resource comes here?

Whoa...

I am not acting ''holier than thou''

Could you tell me why these atrocities do not bother you..

I am a member of ''Amnesty International''

That's better - you act civilly to me and I will respond in kind.

I never said that they did not bother me.

I said that I am smart enough to recognize what I can change, and what I cannot.

The Saudis have had these brutal tactics in place for years.

We have done too much for them over the years, with minimal payback.

The sooner we can walk away from them, the better off we will be.

Good afternoon, SMTA. :2wave:

It wouldn't bother me a bit if we took care of the problems in this country, which are myriad, and let other countries do the same in theirs! They've been killing each other for over a thousand years, and I don't see much of a change happening. Maybe they will just kill each other more democratically after we show them the best way to live their lives? That's probably it!

Maybe it is because we are all sticking our fingers in our ears and singing La-la- la..because we don't want to see what's happening..or are subjects of a government..that have close ties with Saudi..telling us not to look??

Because in many instances, like the one mentioned in the OP, we (the USofA) sure do appear to be gigantic hypocrites.

Every country is a hypocrite who is simply trying to cater to their own perceived interests. That's how the world and foreign policy works. But given those circumstances, I think the US is doing a more agreeable job than a china, soviet union, or even a modern Russia would.

No, they're just a bunch of primitives who have a commodity the rest of the world needs.

Surely to god..your god..my goddess..there must be another way..

I believe that Saudi has harbored..(I hate American spelling)....has financed all bombings..

And we cannot fight them because we have sold them the latest weapons...

Good afternoon, wolfie. :2wave:

We've got to get a handle on those guys behind the curtain, even though we're told to pay no attention to them! Who will the unaware "sheeple" blame? Chances are quite good that they won't believe it's the government's fault, if I'm reading the trends correctly! It also helps to have a compliant lapdog media, too! It's a shame when one is forced to read foreign newspapers to find out what is really happening in America! Disgusting!

Commentaries from both Der Spiegel and Reuters, neither of which has an ax to grind that I can see. Our papers will then pick up the news, eventually, when they learn that we have already been told.

So why isn't anyone doing anything??

I think we should..

We have no money, and our economy is in the tank.

There are a myriad of problems that need to be addressed in the United States first.

In addition, our record (or anybody's) for sticking their noses in another country's business, changing their economy, their religion, and their morals is poor, at best.

Look how well the Brits did with India.

So no, sending money that we don't have, troops that we don't have, and resources that we don't have to another country, whose mores and laws we don't understand makes no sense.

United States citizens need to come first.

Americans will rant about how inhumane the Taliban is, but they pale in comparison to the Saudi government, our allies. It's like all you have to say is "ally" and a whole nation's gross injustice will be swept aside. It's one hypocrisy of ours that I find unforgiveable. We hedge entire wars upon the premise that evil needs to be fought (like Saddam), yet we simultaneously give our full support to other cruel fascists.

One day our government will call the Saudi government "terrorists" and wage war. At that point, the peanut gallery in the U.S. will suddenly change their minds.

I'd be for surgical castration of rapist and I bet you the rape cases would plummet if that law was enacted.

I would actually take that bet.

The death penalty has not eliminated the murder rate, now has it?

Many or most criminals just don't care about the penalties.

I would agree that castration would eliminate repeat offenders.

So you are willing to pay $30+ dollars per gallon for your gasoline, then?

Endure $300~400 dollar fill-ups at the gas station?

Feel free to beat that drum nationally, and see how much support that you garner.

For one thing the death penalty is very rare, for another thing some things are worse than death.

Yep that's exactly what I'm saying.

No point in responding now that words have been put in my mouth.

How disingenuous.

You don't seem to understand, you want to see what terrorism really looks like - do away with the Saudi government. No, I'm not saying they are some bastian of freedom and good will, quite the opposite. But even the ugliest dam holds back some of the flood waters.

really, they have orchestrated a genocide against ethnic minorities and have thrown acid in the face of young girls? I'm not much a fan of the kingdom or it's royal family, but they don't strike me as being on the same level of the Taliban
