Wussification of America

The defense of this man's actions are hilarious. The guy was a ****ty coach, did a ****ty job with the kids, was abusive and was fired for it. Coach K does nothing like that but he gets results. This has NOTHING to do with a wussification of America, but a political spin on an asshole coach that had every right to be fired based on his record alone.

This is coming from the self-proclaimed drama kid. :lamo

This also from a kid who knows players on a college hockey team coached by one of the best. Reality is this guy's actions have nothing to do with my generation. It has to do with this coach doing a ****ty job coaching a team and was fired for it.

Oh for ****'s sake. What happens to you in life and your circumstances greatly influence "how you feel about and react to" events and circumstances. So yes, the things that happen to you in life and the circumstances you are dealt are just as if not more important than how one reacts to them.

I am honestly so sick of this uneducated argument that comes almost exclusively from conservatives. It's as if you guys think people's choices come out of nowhere - completely untouched by their experiences and circumstances.

Once again you seem to have become pitifully hysterical. Reaction to events and circumstances is not a Conservative or Liberal concept, it's a psychological concept that has been propounded over and over again in academic settings.

You've got enough problems without this, you poor devil.

...However, the upward trends for the numbers in divorce, kids born out of wedlock, government handouts, obesity, average age people live with parents until, etc. speak for themselves.

Well, this is the first time I've seen someone do something as stupid as link political correctness to divorce, bastard children, welfare states, and of all things, fatness.

Other than extoll on some imaginary hardiness or strength of spirit you think past generations had, what is the point of this thread?

Are you going to back your opinion up, or simply troll?

Are you going to back your opinion up,

When you present a real argument, I'll debate it.

Until then? This was just me laughing at your inane, nonsensical opening.

or simply troll?

Who's trolling? I think it's you, since you opened a thread so devoid of intellectual content.

For god sakes, you used the word Wussification! That's not even a real word!

I'll take that as you not having a good explaination behind the increases in numbers. In denial about the irresponsibility of kids these days?

If you would have read the article, you'd realze that I didn't come up with that word. :doh

Cute pic.

On point though, I didn't say you came up with the word, I merely pointed out how ridiculous it makes one look to even use such a word.

More on point, I don't have to debunk so thoroughly stupid an idea as "Political correctness causes divorces and fatness."

Such an idea is so laughable on it's face, I'm surprised you're not more ashamed for raising it to begin with.

The cute boy in the picture likely has better reading skills than you if you think I said political correctness causes fatness.

...if you think I said political correctness causes fatness...

The funny thing is, you did.

You actually argued that political correctness, which you characterize in this case as not being blunt or forthcoming with children but instead mollycoddling them, has some nebulous link to rising divorce rates, children being born out-of-wedlock, and obesity.

It's such a laughable, stupid thing. It's so stupid, so absolutely devoid of any shred of intellectual content, I'm still stunned someone would make such an argument and then not immediately retract it once further reflection on it revealed to them how embarrassingly stupid it really was.

You sedem have it backwards. One of the causes could very well be the divorce rate and single-mom households, which is why children get coddled and pampered, and not taught the realities of life, and how to deal with the normal stress of living. Kids need stability which can be supplied with two differing parental types. The mother figure to nurture and meet specific needs, and a father figure to teach the child how to deal with life as it is, and not how the child wishes it to be.

I just don't buy that.

Another conservative losing another argument and reduced to whining.

Rightwing pop psychology always ends up in some kid getting punished. I wonder why that is?

You are advocating accepting victimhood because, as you see it, exercising an alternative would be worse.

You and several others here show a distinct lack of imagination in problem solving skills.

It's not an imagination. It's not accepting victimhood, either. Again, where are you getting this idea? There are NCAA guidelines they are expected to adhere to as representatives of their school, athletics, and themselves. I'm also not saying exercising any alternative would be worse, just the one about retaliation against the coach. In the rational self interest of the individual, who is at school, attempting to play collegiate basketball presumably on a scholarship and whose only way to pay for school may be basketball, it would not do him well to throw one punch at a coach. That would all but damn him entirely.

I agree with Bolling's point yesterday about Americans becoming wussies and political correctness being a major source.

Fortunately we have conservatives to show us all how to be rough and tough assholes. present company excluded of course.

I already said that throwing a punch would be stupid but that's not the only way to retaliate.

In such a situation your ultimate goal is to get the threatening behavior to stop and to stay stopped. You, as the student athlete, have a set of guidelines you need to adhere to or else you're going to screw yourself so what you need to do is figure out a way to accomplish your goal without putting yourself in jeopardy. Strangely enough ones ability to do that coincides EXACTLY with being successful at your sport.

Be resourceful.
Be adaptive.
Be assertive.
Stick to your goal.
Win.

If you keep on playing his game on his terms you will never accomplish your goal.

... and if it comes back to the student. They will more than likely be penalized heavily whether it be in the NCAA, NBA, professional career, etc. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose.

To the OP, I agree that political correctness, among other factors, which we can detail if needed, is turning most people into the biggest wusses ever. It's really sad, that kids now are either complete punks OR they have no backbone, you can just see it in how they carry themselves...

Fortunately we have conservatives to show us all how to be rough and tough assholes. present company excluded of course.

It's not about being an asshole, it's about having principles, standing up for yourself, and a level of responsibility.

Assholes are just the opposite extreme of the wuss... Being a masculine man is that balanced place in between. Consider, the term gentleman does NOT imply a "gentle" man, but rather a masculine mature man who is respectful, but will kill a man if he's provoked.

So, like I said before, you choose to be a victim.

The funny thing is that you think I did. See that tiny little darkened word up there? I'll let you hire an English tutor to teach you the difference between "a" and "the" preceding a noun.

Have you wondered why it was public reaction to video and not the players complaining to superintendents that decided when he got fired? I expect a player on that team who has a problem with it to speak up, given that they're adults. If the players don't mind it then who cares what others think?
