GOP Lawmaker Calls Hispanic Workers ‘Wetbacks’

I agree- he should have just called them what they are. Illegal immigrants. They skirted our laws to get here, and that wouldn't be tolerated in Mexico.

Speaking of toleration in mexico, here are some of their laws:

The Mexican constitution bans immigrants and foreign visitors from public political discourse, bars immigrants and naturalized citizens from most public service positions, authorizes private citizens to arrest illegal immigrants and turn them over to the authorities, and allows the government to expel immigrants for any reason and without due process.

In addition foreigners are admitted only after proving they have “the necessary funds for their sustenance” and only if their presence does not disturb “the equilibrium of the national demographics.”

“Employers that violate Mexican immigration laws are subject to fines of up to 100 times the minimum wage… Foreign nationals who violate the terms of their stay in Mexico are subject to deportation.”

First of all, perhaps I should have been more clear, show me Republican politicians saying those things. Rush Limbaugh is not a politician of any party. Quoting him is like quoting Howard Stern on the topic of female breast exams. And then quoting some random woman on Facebook? Fail. And the one politician that you referenced did not say any of those things that you referenced. He's against gay marriage, so what? I fully support gay marriage myself, but I have no qualms with those who are against it.

Funny. I never here a Democrat Politician calling Mexicans wetbacks, blacks N-words, women sluts or gays homos. That's pretty much a GOP thing.

That's because you're either too young to have been around for it or you lived a very sheltered existence.

Goalpost move.

Face it, the GOP is the home of racists and homophobes.

Too much tea party racism - Salon.com

We all know the Southern Democrats of the 60's were bad people. Sadly today's Republicans are following in their footsteps.

It was the Democrats who were hardcore pro-slavery and didn't want it abolished. Yeah, so now I guess they are still to this day trying to make up for that little blemish in their history.

Goalpost move? How so??? There are Republicans and Democrats from all walks of life and in every occupation. Showing me a quote from a random woman who says that she's Republican, and a quote from a radio talk show host says nothing.

And you quote Salon to make your case? That's rich.

Look, it's like saying the dems are the home of elitists, socialists and snobs. There's some truth to it in some cases, but applying it to the group invalidates it and makes it into just another slur against that group.

Anyone who knows history also knows that the dems and reps swapped places on those issues. Republicans trying to take the position they are the pro-black party is like Michael bay trying to claim he is like Shakespeare. Oh, and if you are unaware of such things I suggest you look up Strom Thurmond. He is a good example of how the old prejudiced democrats switched names in order to cause this sort of confusion.

I wasn't aware that any party actually claimed that they are the 'pro-black' party. Now THAT would be racist.

Or look into Robert Byrd or George Wallace for examples of how they never left the dems in the first place.

translation: You caught me now I will pretend to argue something completely different.

I will accept your defeat.

really?
... George Wallace emerged as a major third-party candidate in the Presidential campaign. As the founder, organizer and director of the newly-formed American Independent Party, Wallace secured a place on the ballots of all fifty states. He carried five of those states in the general election, won forty-six electoral votes, and drew over 9.9 million popular votes--the highest popular vote of any third-party candidate in American history ...

You mean the dixiecrats who stayed in the party? Seriously, i don't have time to teach a person like you the nuances of history of that time. It is obvious that an ignorant view of history supports your poor argument, and i cannot expect you to back off of your misrepresentation of the realities of the shift in the parties that occurred around that time period. But you feel free to use that poor argument. I am pretty sure regular people know that the republicans would never elect a black president, and the democrats did. That would be the end of the argument that the republicans are the anti-racism party.

Illegal immigrants which his family hired. He may not want to draw attention to that.

All Americans called them wetbacks. The country had a program called Operation Wetback under Dwight Eisenhower and over a million of them were deported.

We also used to call people "ni**ers" and "wops" also. If this guy were a Democrat, you'd be all over him like a fly on dog****.

Except 'wetbacks' isn't a racial or ethnic slur. It's a term to describe illegal immigrants who get here via water. Water is wet, and when people come here illegally through water, their back gets wet, hence the term Wetback.

which non-hispanic people does wetback refer to?

That's an excellent analogy for a Democrat.
