Stephen Colbert's Sister Could Stun Republicans and Win a House Seat.....

That's true.....which is something many have been talking about. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, are just the beginning of more people of character stepping in, that are smart, intelligent, about principles and values. We have some very bright and successful women that are rising thru the ranks. I think we will see more vetted by ourselves and with reminders about getting out in front of the camera and playing the Media's game.

While I was doing my walk this morning, I was thinking about 2016. Whom me as a swing voter, Reform Party member would like to see the GOP nominate who could win. I came up with two women, Susan Martinez, the governor of New Mexico and Condi Rice. Rubio, Jeb Bush and Daniels of Indiana would be also interesting which I think could garner the majority of swing voter/independent votes. I do not know how old Alexander of Tennessee is, but he could be another interesting candidate. Then there is the governor of Virginia, McDonald I think and Portman from Ohio.

I think on the Democratic side, Even Byah the ex governor and senator from Indiana, John Tester, MT, Either of the two Udall's, Tom and Mark, Kaine or Warner from Virginia. But skuttlbutt has it the Dems want to nominate a woman and I do not think Hillery would be the right one. I would look to the Senate, Stabenow, Heitkamp although new strikes my fancy. Gillibrand NY is another possibility. But I really haven't given the Dem side much thought outside of not wanting Hillery or Biden which are the two front runners.

Stephen Colbert may have opted not to pursue a serious political campaign, but another Colbert, his sister, is embarking on one of her own. And though it's still too soon to predict the final outcome, early signs indicate that she has a surprisingly good chance of pulling off a huge upset and capturing what was once a solidly Republican seat.

a-new-poll-shows-elizabaeth-colbert-busch-in-a-virtual-tie-with-her-likely-republican-opponent.jpg

On Tuesday, a Public Policy Polling survey showed Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a virtual tie with likely challenger Mark Sanford in the special election to fill South Carolina's vacant House seat. Busch led Sanford 47 percent to 45 percent, just within the poll's 2.9 percent margin of error.

The poll also found Busch tied, at 43 percent, with Curtis Bostic, her other potential foe for the May special election. Bostic and Sanford will go head-to-head in a Republican primary run-off next week, a contest Sanford is heavily favored to win, despite having left the governor's office in disgrace after his bizarre extramarital affair came to light four years ago.

That Busch is performing so well may come as a bit of a surprise. The seat in question, representing South Carolina's 1st District, is reliably red. It hasn't been held by a Democrat in more than 30 years, and Tim Scott (R) last November won re-election there with 62 percent of the vote — double what his Democratic challenger received. (In December, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) appointed Scott to fill a vacant Senate seat, prompting the special election.).....snip~

Stephen Colbert's sister could stun Republicans and win a House seat - The Week

So does anybody think Colbert's sister can win this House Seat? Do we have any from SC that is up on this situation?

Why did the Southern Cons allow this Putz to run for the House Seat? This is what I have brought up in the past about Southern Cons trying to make moves without checking with others. Why would you even Risk this House seat over this Douchebag?

I like Susan Martinez of NM, Condi, Mia Long, and then there is Nicki Haley of NC. Also some tried to get Daniels to throw in his Hat this last time Round. Which IMO he would have been way better than Romney.

I think Bayh would be a good pick. Hillary was going to pick him as her VP. He would certainly be a boost to the Blue Dogs.

I was all in for Mitch Daniels, but his family did not want him to run. Thus he is now President of Purdue University rather than President of the United States.

Fill me in on Mia Long when you get a chance, I can't place her. Personally I think Bayh would be hard to beat. He has some appeal even down here in Georgia where Hillary does not.But I can't see Bayh winning the nomination. He is really not liberal enough. I remember Sam Nunn at one time was considering running for president, but the DNC told him to forget. Sam was one of our longest serving Senators, a moderate to conservative Democrat. I think this was back in 2000. Then in 2002 which might have been in retaliation to the DNC, Georgia turned from a Democratic State to a Republican one as we elected our first Republican governor and a Republican state legislature for the very first time. A lot of the old Democrats changed their voting habits as a result to the snub to Sam Nunn.

Meet Mia Love, Utah's First African-American Mayor.

Saratoga Springs made history Tuesday night, becoming the first Utah city to elect a black woman as mayor.
Councilwoman Mia Love defeated challenger Jeff Francom in the contest to replace outgoing Mayor Timothy Parker.....snip~

The latest rising political star is so many anomalies that you could’t possibly make her up. You may want to sit down for this: She is black, Republican, lives in Utah and, yes, is a Mormon.

Her name is Mia Long. She is currently serving as the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, and has won the primary to become Utah’s Republican candidate of the 4th Congressional District. If she goes on to win the general election, she will become the first African American congresswoman to serve in the House of Representatives for the state.

Long has generated a lot of support and media buzz in the state because of her religious transformation. She is the offspring of Haitian immigrants who converted to Mormonism and she leads a city that has a microscopic minority population. But she feels right at home.....snip~

Rising GOP star Mia Love glides into the spotlight at convention

This is Love's story: Her parents left Haiti for the U.S. 39 years ago. Her father worked several jobs to support the family, including paying for his daughter to attend the University of Hartford, where she graduated with a degree in fine arts.

"I remember taking my dad to college with me on the first day of orientation and he looked at me very seriously, and he said, 'Mia, your mother and I have done everything we could to get you here. We've worked hard. We've never taken a handout. You're not going to be a burden to society. You will give back,'" Love said in an interview Tuesday with Fox News.

"It actually stayed with me," she said.

Love, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised primarily in Connecticut, moved to Utah in 1997 and married Jason Love. She converted to Mormonism and served on the Saratoga City Council for six years before running for mayor.

Love, a favorite among the Tea Party movement, champions fiscal responsibility and limited government. Her chief mission, she says, is to run a "fiscally sound city."

Yeah, we wanted him to run over Romney, literally......my step-son goes to Purdue. He would pull independent too.

With Bayh I would have to agree, the Democrats.....specifically the Progressives wouldn't back him. But I do think he is one of the more Intelligent Democrats out there.

She sounds interesting. If she wins a congressional seat she might become a rising star. I thank you for the information. I will have to start keeping tabs on her.

You put Bayh at the head of the ticket for 2016, he wins Indiana, probably Virginia and North Carolina and would be a real threat. But of course it all depends on whom he would be running against.

JEEZ! She's got a face that could stop a clock!

What would be really great would be people referring to her by her name rather than as "Stephen Colbert's sister." I'm a little sensitive about this because every news source that reported on "Chilly" Miller's death several days ago continually referred to his more famous brother.

Voters elected him.

As a Republican candidate

There is no data re the party affiliations of his voters.

Why didn't you point the same facts out with Marion Barry and Jesse Jackson Jr? Oh, I know, because you don't care when the stupid hyperbolic comment is against dems, right.

Frankly, I haven't visited this thread for a long time. There are no records of the party affiliations of Barry or Jackson voters, either. (In Barry's case an educated guess is possible because there are about four Repubs in the District of Columbia.)

And how many Dems are there in the 81st district in Louisiana?

Then why on Earth did you defend the republican voters in that district earlier? Seems fairly reactionary rather than rational, no?

Neither party deserves to be condemned on the basis of no evidence. I don't believe in guilt by association or innuendo.
