Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper will sign gun control measures Wednesday that pose limits on ammunition magazines and expand background checks for firearms. A state government employee with knowledge of the situation confirmed the details to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement has not been made.

Colorado's gun debate has been carefully watched because it's a politically moderate state with a gun-loving frontier history. The new laws would be the first significant gun controls approved this year outside the East Coast.
Republicans reviled both bills and argued the proposals would not prevent more shootings, but hurt law-abiding citizens' exercise of their Second Amendment rights.
The governor also was planning to sign a bill reviving user fees for gun purchasers needing background checks. Colorado charged $10 background-check fees more than a decade ago, but the fees were dropped. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation currently picks up the tab checking prospective gun owners.

Seems like a good law to me and a common sense law, but i know im gonna get attacked for saying that from the right. Oh well

I am sure they will complain, but having background checks, and making the purchaser pay for them is not a terrible thing.

if I were a fascist, I would really like the direction we are heading in as a country... all the good , common sense, laws are great for fascists.

if i were a gun control supporter, I would be outraged that Colorado allows for 5 more bullets per magazine than California..why that's 50% more dead children per magazine!.. unacceptable!!

besides, I think 8.675309 bullets per magazine is a much better completely arbitrary number than 15.. and Tommy Tutone agrees.

yes!...what's better than having people proving their innocence before being allowed to exercise constitutional rights?... making them pay for it too!

Attack you? No.

I do think the laws in question are of somewhat dubious Constitutionality, and that their net effect on crime or massacres will be close enough to zero as to be meaningless... but I have no interest in attacking you personally. Just in disagreeing with you. :)

Well, I don't oppose background checks. That's pretty much a no-brainer from my standpoint. Those who are knowledgeable about guns say that limiting the size of magazines doesn't really effect the fire power of a skilled individual; so I'd imagine there's probably millions of those people on the right you mention who are laughing their asses off.

I can live with background checks..... depending on the specifics ( which I can't find).....

ammunition limits are ...well.. stupid...
if you know how to change mags in your firearm.. well... congratulations, you just legally rendered this law completely useless.

I personally think magazine capacity should be limited to pi myself, but I'm not as much of a gun nut as you are.

Mass murderers will surely give up their plans in CO now, they will never manage to scrape that extra $10 together. ;)

What part of the second amendment said that you should get free guns and never have any regulation? Oh yeah, no part of it. But thanks for proving me right.

Straw man

Shall not be infringed

So how is that militia treating you? Oh, you are not in one? Then you don't have a right to a gun along a strict translation. It is a good idea not to torpedo your own arguments like you just did.

what language are you translating the 2nd amendment from and to?....oh, i see, you are trying to levy a grammatical argument against the 2nd amendment ( a widely discredited argument, to boot) while using incorrect terms to do so.
"interpretation" is the proper term, not "translation"

if you would like to debate the grammar of the 2nd amendment, i'm more than game.
but be warned ... you will lose.

the 2nd amendment says nothing of free guns.... in fact, it only speaks to the RIGHT of keeping and bearing arms.
the amendment speaks to a preexisting right of the people that is inviolate

that's as far as I will go with your strawman

Was somebody asking for free guns? I thought that was free voting rights with no ID.

We are all in a militia, hence the need to be armed.

A militia (pron.: /mɨˈlɪʃə/),[1] generally refers to an army or other fighting force that is composed of non-professional fighters; citizens of a nation or subjects of a state or government that can be called upon to enter a combat situation, as opposed to a professional force of regular soldiers or, historically, members of the fighting nobility. (Wickipedia)

Wasting your time. But, add on to the term "regulated." Which at the time is reference to "regular." Which roughly translate trained. The founders wanted the populace to be skilled in firearm use.

Perhaps the "right of the people to peaceably assemble" really meant that you were free to put stuff together with no one bothering you .

You don't even know what a militia is. Do you?

The problem with limiting magazine size is that the next loony tunes mass murderer will kill many with a semi-auto pistol and 7 round magazines.

What do you suppose will happen then?
