North Korea threatens ‘pre-emptive’ nuclear strike

They plot to steal our precious bodily fluids when they are done annihilating us. That's what commies do ya know.

If North Korea attempts to do what it is threatening, it's going to need a new name. How about Glass Lake (Pronounced Grass Lake in North Korea )?

that would be pronounced

grass rake

I hope they do it. No doubt it would most likely hit a blue part of the country, which is ok. And then we'd get to use all the cool stuff we've had sitting for decades. We'd become more red and knocking north korea off the map would be good for the economy and a good morale booster.

Bring it on you north korean asshats!

Yeah, nothing like the deaths of 2 or 3 million people you disagree with politically to get that right wing blood boiling!:lamo

The theory I've been going with for some time, and this seems to confirm my suspicion, is that Kim Jong-un wants to have economic growth modeled after China, but realizes that the absurdly bloated military budget he's running won't allow for it. He's got to cut spending on conventional military drastically, but he can't do that without incurring an unacceptably high risk of invasion. And so he's stuck trying to convince the planet that a nuclear response would be his first, second, fifth, and twenty-seventh response to any conventional outbreak of hostilities.

are you speculating that he is intentionally doing this to give him cover to soon significantly reduce the size of his standing army, to divert those military monies elsewhere?

Yes. And even if I'm wrong about the exact reason why he's doing it, there's no doubt in my mind that he's doing it to communicate, either with the internal populace of the DPRK or with the outside world.

The Juche leadership is terrible, but neither it nor the Kim family are actively insane. Behind almost every posture and threat of theirs is a message.

Kim Jong-un is a new leader, and not as secure in his position as Il-sung or Jong-il. He must first prove to the DPRK military that he's going to give them the same preferences Jong-il initiated and to the Juche ruling class that he's pliant. And the latter and the former might sometimes be at loggerheads.

It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with them, it has to do with their lack of usefulness in society ...
