S.E. Cupp Pulls Out of CPAC Until Groups Representing Gay Republicans Are Embraced | TheBlaze.com

TheBlaze TV’s S.E. Cupp on Tuesday announced she is pulling out of CPAC until the annual conservative gathering welcomes GOP groups that support gay marriage. Two prominent groups representing gay Republicans, GOProud and the Log Cabin Republicans, will reportedly not be in attendance at CPAC.

“I go to CPAC every year. I love speaking there. It’s a great opportunity for conservatives, young and old from all over the world, to get together and sort of touch base,” Cupp said on MSNBC’s “The Cycle.”

CPAC has reportedly permitted groups advocating for gay marriage to attend, however, they are unable to sponsor the event. Cupp said that is a bit of a “cop-out” on the issue.
“Ive been thinking about this a lot, and I know a lot of people on my side of the isle have been struggling with this for some time now too,” she added. “I’ve been scheduled to speak at CPAC this year, and I don’t think I can until this issue is reconciled and figured out.”

Cupp said Republicans are divided on gay marriage, an issue that the party can “no longer seem to avoid.” She explained that several Republicans, including four former governors, have signed a legal brief arguing that gays have a constitutional right to marry. The brief will be submitted to the Supreme Court this week in support of a lawsuit to overturn California’s Prop 8, which limited marriage to the union of a man and a woman.

edit: i wonder how Beck feels about this.

Some of the comments are quit degrading on that site.

The Conservatives need to learn a phrase - "Matters such as gay marriage and abortion are individual issues best handled at the local level. These are not federal issues and the federal government needs to stay out of such things. We can not have a limited government and at the same time have that government engaged in individual matters. The force of the state can be wielded for a great many things but it is our job as Conservatives to insure that great restraint is exercised before that power, no matter how well intentioned, is used upon the American people."

Good on her!

We need people from both sides of the aisle to support marriage equality, and her standing up on this issue is a great thing.

I agree, YS. She's taking a beating for it, but she's doing the right thing.

I agree. It will take time, but I think both left and right will be mostly united on this.

The REAL question is, if this is a legitimate movement from the right, is it sincere? I highly suspect not.

Im still trying to figure out whether shes going undercover (into the MSM) on Becks orders, or whether she just has no principles. Pretty sure that liberals called her all sorts of nasty things before this, though. For example in 2009 Salon wrote an article critical of SE Cupps article about how Gay Obamas inauguration was going to be.

Fox News on inauguration: “Gay America prepares to party” - Salon.com

Or this one saying she distorted news to make Obama look bad. But I guess now shes on MSNBC and ciriticizing the GOP, all is forgiven.

News Hounds: Hannity, Guilfoyle and Cupp Unanimously Distort USA Today Article To Accuse Obama Of Buying Votes With Stimulus

She's just pandering to her pals at MSNBC

Traditional Marriage should be defended and upheld

I just now read that fox article: Gay America Prepares To Party at Obama Inauguration | Fox News
She's pretty neutral in it.

With all due respect to SE, her opinion matters little to the republican party.

SSM does not attack opposite sex marriage, to say otherwise is a lie

Traditional marriage should be defended but it should not be in the realm of the state to do so. When we begin to give the state such power we also lose our own power to defend those issues on our own turf. The liberals who are controlling the Democrat party want this fight to be on the national level because they know that if they win then they have a foot in the door to further their social engineering objectives. We can not allow that to happen if we want to preserve the individual liberty upon which this nation was founded.

Look at what is happening in NYC. They started caving on little issues here and there, giving Bloomberg more and more power but now he's managed to get the State to adopt his ideas on gun control and outlawed the delivery of 2 liter bottle of soda with a pizza.

Liberty means that some people will choose to do things that we dislike and that we disagree with but we have to retain the rights to deal with those things directly. Dealing with them through delegation isn't dealing with them at all.

If something does not directly effect me, then I do not worry about it.

I do not care who folks choose as their marriage partner, as it is none of my business.

Live and let live, judge lest ye be judged.

What makes you think it isn't?

It might be for a few, but why all of a sudden? I mean, the talk about this has only come out since Rmoney lost back in Nov.

People just dont change their religious beliefs over night. And yes, this is a religious matter.

SE Cupp is an atheist.

But it does me no injury

there are twenty gods, or no God.
It neither picks my pocket

I never said the Federal Government should get involved in Gay Marriage. I believe the exact opposite actually. Let the states decide by a vote if they want state recognition of Gay Marriage. The people decide. That's not how the Left operates however. Even in CA gay marriage was voted down and it only took one militant gay radical in black robes to overturn the will of the people.

There needs to be an opposition movement to the very idea and concept of gay marriage politically. I will never support gay marriage. I don't feel it's imperative to the propagation of the species. I also don't believe the concept of marriage and it's definition should be changed to suit a small group of people with specific sexual appetites.

.

Sorry, it's nitpicking, but this sounds like there's a Conservative island somewhere, and people on a specific side of it have a certain opinion.
