This keeps getting better.

I wonder if Glenn Beck realizes that professional wrestling fans are statistically more likely to identify as conservative? Think they'll be happy at his crusade for political correctness Conservative Truth directed against the industry?

Glenn Beck turns down WWE invitation after anger over tea party characters | The Raw Story

World Wresting Entertainment invited Glenn Beck onto the program Raw after the conservative radio host criticized the organization for creating characters that appear to be caricatures of anti-immigrant tea party conservatives.

In response to the WWE’s invitation, Beck tweeted on Friday evening, “Unfortunately I am currently booked doing anything else.”

In their YouTube video directed at Beck, characters Zebediah Colter and Jack Swagger begin with a promo in character — calling themselves “real Americans,” saying people in this country should only speak English, and claiming that Swagger’s defeat of character Alberto Del Rio, another wrestler, will “begin to set things right.”

Then, breaking out of his Colter character, Wayne Keown said, “We are in the entertainment business. Everything we do as our characters is designed to tell stories. Right now the story we’re telling is that Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger are using the current, relevant, and topical story of immigration to target the WWE world champion Alberto Del Rio. Also a character played my my friend Jose Rodriguez. In our story, we are the antagonists, and Alberto is the protagonist.”

“Glenn Beck, you recently referred to WWE as ‘stupid wresting people,’” he continued, going on to say that Beck was therefore calling 14 million viewers stupid.

He also noted that 20 percent of WWE’s audience was Hispanic.

Jesus bloody christ no one is at war with anyone.

War has to be the most idiotically used word in American politics.

Maybe not, but I hope he can be goaded into calling for some regulatory measure against the industry.

My god, its professional wrestling. Its not real.

They have to have the bad guy and the good guy. Doesn't Beck know this is all made up.

No, because Beck also thinks there has to be a bad guy and a good guy. And he, of course, always has to be the good guy.

Christ Jesus, I wish I knew how to get on somewhere as a Democratic media operative/dirty trickster. I'd make mountains out of this molehill.

Oh please, make it a full three ring circus and have Sarah Palin come get into this sideshow.

Taking pro wrestlers seriously reminds me of a great joke:

A ventriloquist was making fun of rednecks with his dummy at a bar. Then an angry redneck stood up, rolled up his sleeves ,and yelled, "I resent that!"
The ventriloquist started apologizing to the redreck.
The redneck looked at him and said, " You stay outta this, I''m talking to the guy on your lap!!!!

And if Beck had appeared the same Demos above this would be raging how he endorsed anti-Latino declarations.

No they wouldn't. They'd be mocking Beck for taking the bait.

WWE loves this ****. It's got people talking about wrestling who aren't already wrestling fans for the first time in the while. Vince McMahon is (a mainstream) conservative, but he doesn't have any truck with the likes of Beck. And Beck is inadvertently helping McMahon get the Jack Swagger character over forty-five days before Wrestlemania.

It's like Beck literally doesn't understand how the wrestling business works.

Vince McMahon probably was only mildly at most involved in the characters, and the goal was not to get mainstream coverage. Politics has nothing to do with it, demographics does.

And where did you get the stat about the politics of wrestling fans?

The goal probably wasn't to get mainstream coverage at first, but now it definitely is. Swagger broke kayfabe in the response video to Beck and used his real name. You don't break kayfabe in the WWE without authorization from the top.

It's anecdotal. I don't have a link to the poll, but in 2008 I recall seeing one that broke down the political affiliations of wrestling fans by demographic. The largest were white conservatives at something like 40%, and the second largest were Hispanics in the 20s. Take it with a grain of salt if you want, as I don't have it on hand.

Vince knows what he does is fake.

Beck still thinks what he does is real.

This makes Vince the intellectual.

You don't say much of anything without authorization. Breaking kayfabe is not that big a deal and hasn't been for many years. WWE does not really pretend to be anything but scripted entertainment. This is a minor opportunity, but won't have any significant impact on buy rates or ratings.

It's possible but unlikely.

The WWE has been building on its Hispanic base for the last decade, at least, with guys like Eddy Guerrero (RIP) and Rey Mysterio Jr. and Alberto del Rio who have all been World Champions. They tried to build Sin Cara up, who had been a huge star in Mexico as Mistico, but that endeavor has not been very successful. So the demographic of 20% could very well be legit.

Dude, what's your problem? Why do you want to create a political issue? Who is really promoting hate here?

What is Beck a whiner of epic proportions, can I remember a few gimmicks of the past:

Alberto+Del+Rio+3.jpg

And then there are hated Sergeant Slaughter (with the Iron sheik), Million dollar man Ted DiBiasi, JBL, Wade Garret. Road Scholars, Christian, Muhammed Hassan, etc. etc.

This kind of thing has always happened in the WWE/wrestling, Beck should stop whining about this because it is fake.

Mohammed Hassan mean anything to you?

That was terrific. The scan of the audience shows mature adults shaking their fists and screaming at the top of their lungs.

I just searched the price of one ticket for a WWE Smackdown tonight in Waco, Texas. The price was $103.58 !!

I had no idea it was that pricey . A family of four could so stand and yell at the "bad guys" for $414.32. Add parking fees and food and drinks and you go that family spending $500. My god.

There was a time when I thought Glen Beck made sense.

somewhere around '05 and '06 when I imagined that I was a libertarian, I listened to his radio show. while a bit edgy, it was at least sane most of the time, and he did call the financial crash more than a year in advance.

after that, he went straight into bat country. he got a television show, and then he went nuts. once he moved to fox, it was over.

in an odd way, he's a bit like pro-wrestling himself : so over the top that suspension of disbelief becomes impossible.

Beck is all made up. Isnt he?
