Glenn Beck is at war with World Wrestling Entertainment.

somewhere around '05 and '06 when I imagined that I was a libertarian, I listened to his radio show. while a bit edgy, it was at least sane most of the time, and he did call the financial crash more than a year in advance.

after that, he went straight into bat country. he got a television show, and then he went nuts. once he moved to fox, it was over.

in an odd way, he's a bit like pro-wrestling himself : so over the top that suspension of disbelief becomes impossible.

So true. Like the WWE, Beck is all show. But he does have a point here about the WWE, but the same is true of Beck himself. They take a current affairs situation and make puppet theatre out of it.

The WWE has been building on its Hispanic base for the last decade, at least, with guys like Eddy Guerrero (RIP) and Rey Mysterio Jr. and Alberto del Rio who have all been World Champions. They tried to build Sin Cara up, who had been a huge star in Mexico as Mistico, but that endeavor has not been very successful. So the demographic of 20% could very well be legit.

Check out the schedules for Univision, Galavision, and Telemundo, among some of the Hispanic channels, and look for Luche Libre, It's hugely popular. No wonder Vince wants a piece of the pay. And he's not the only one.

No they wouldn't. They'd be mocking Beck for taking the bait.

WWE loves this ****. It's got people talking about wrestling who aren't already wrestling fans for the first time in the while. Vince McMahon is (a mainstream) conservative, but he doesn't have any truck with the likes of Beck. And Beck is inadvertently helping McMahon get the Jack Swagger character over forty-five days before Wrestlemania.

It's like Beck literally doesn't understand how the wrestling business works.

Here's WWE's rebuttle...and it explains to Glenn how the WWE works

What a hoot. It makes me miss Andy Kaufman.

What is going to be interesting is that in the last week, Swagger got arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana. WWE these days frowns heavily on that stuff, and could very well mean a depush for Swagger. Should get an idea if that is going to happen tonight.

Well, no depush. Dutch Mantell is simply awesome with the Zeb Coulter gimmick. Just slightly exaggerated and yet totally despicable. He logically arrives at his vile beliefs. Well done gimmick.

Ha, I didn't realize Dutch is Zeb.

Man, I really need to start watching on the run up to Wresltmania. I've been out of it for a while and the whole Swagger thing came out of pseudo-left field.

Really Beck? Going for the Political Correct route now? Going the route of only being offended when it's your group being made fun of? Who do you think you are? (some of those reading this thread knows what comes after that...)

Funny he didn't pipe up when you had stereotypes being played to an extreme such as Rico the Gay Stylist; Saba Simba, the Ugandan Warrior; Cryme Tyme, the thieving black tag team; or the lawnmower riding stable of the "mexicools". No issue with Muhammed Hassan being an American Muslim that basically turns terrorist by the end. Or that we should hate the Canadians because they think America's sutpid (Harts, Christian, Jericho, etc). Or that we should hate the Iranians and defectors for thinking we're imperialists (Iron Shiek, slaughter). Or just in general hate the scary, strange, or egotistical Indian guy (Tiger Ali Syngh, Jinder Mahal, Kali). Or we should hate the uppity Brits that think they're better than America. Or be afraid of Japanese folks because they're untrustworthy (Mr. Fuji). Or that blacks make good man servents (Virgil). Or hate the French because they are disgusted by America (La Resistance). And don't forget to hate those commy loving Ruskies (Nikolai Volkoff).

Not to mention this is hardly the first time the WWE has gone to this well...it just happens that htey're doing it a little different this time because there's something clear to build upon in terms of the Tea Party. Years ago you had JBL being a pseudo-minute man on the crusade against "illegal immigrants" which was clearly just "I don't like brown people" since his targets were in the first case legal (eddie guerrero) and in the second case born in the US (Mysterio).

FFS, it's wrestling...it grabs pop culture, turns the volume knob up to 100, and goes for controversy. Swagger had long done an "All American American" gimmick and they had a latino that was trying to be pushed as a face because it'd be good for business, the story writes itself.

I don't know what is more pathetic...that Glenn Beck is at war with the WWE or that the OP actually gave a **** about it.
