North Korea threatens new nuclear test 'aimed' at US - CSMonitor.com

Two days after the United Nations condemned North Korea with further sanctions for its December rocket launch, the secretive country vowed to respond with a nuclear weapons test aimed at its “enemy,” the United States.

The United Nations Security Council – including North Korea’s closest ally and biggest trading partner, China – voted unanimously on Tuesday to strengthen sanctions against North Korea for its Dec. 12 long-range rocket launch, which violated previous agreements with the UN.

When the launch took place last month, North Korea stated its intentions were entirely peaceful, and that it was exercising its “right to use space” for peaceful purposes.

Today, however, North Korea’s tune seemed to change. "We are not disguising the fact that the various satellites and long-range rockets that we will fire and the high-level nuclear test we will carry out are targeted at the United States," North Korea's National Defense Commission said, Reuters reports, citing the state news agency KCNA.

North Korea is funny. They launch a missile call it a peaceful rocket launch. Everyone sees the obvious so they get UN sanctions in return for the obvious. Then NK gets mad at everyone for seeing the obvious then they confess that it was indeed a missile test. Then they threaten the US with the same missile program that they were sanctioned for.

Am I the only one that thinks that the NK government is being ran by morons?

Where have I heard this before?

Oh yeah, it seems to happen 2-3 times a year. North Korea's plight for relevance continues to be in vain. China won't allow them to do anything so drastic, and we won't allow it either. I mean how many aircraft carriers and anti-missile sights do we have in the Pacific to make sure they wouldn't get close to our shores?

10 bucks they unveil a nuclear powered locomotive

North Korea does this because they have learned over the years that sabre rattling is an effective negotiating technique. It's really very simple. They shoot off a missile or conduct a nuclear test, the US along with the UN "condemn" their actions, grandstand for a while, and ultimately agree to give them a bunch of free stuff "not to do it again"... the whole "deal" being mediated by China. They've been playing this same game for decades and we've been willing, to this point, to play along.

I'm still waiting for the day when they launch one of these missiles and we blow it out of the sky as soon as it exits North Korean airspace. I mean, really, what are they going to do? Threaten to launch another one?

15 minutes later they are going to want to launch another.

No, I think that's a pretty popular opinion.

Maybe what we need to do is get China to put some pressure on NK to change its regime and join the modern world.

All we'd have to do is refuse to buy any more Chinese made junk until Kim jung Un and his cohorts are thrown on the dustbin of history, and things would change in a hurry.

Of course, we'd have to convince our own population that we can get along without Chinese made junk for a little while. That would be the hard part.

Good. We can blow that one out of the sky, too. Hell, we could set up viewing posts all across the Pacific Rim. It would be just like the 4th of July!

The great part is, sooner or later they would be out of missiles to shoot and we'd still have plenty to spare. Now that's what I call an effective disarmament strategy!

NK is China's misbehaving dog. if it ever breaks the chain, game over for NK. i don't see China letting them have a nuclear weapon. it would be too bad for business, and China has two goals right now :

1. to be the premier world superpower

2. to sell us enough rope that we take ourselves out of the running.

nuclear war or a global police action in their back yard isn't on China's agenda.

Cutting through all the bullshiite, one must acknowledge North Korea's sophisticated systems. Long range rockets, satellites, nukes and allegedly a starving populace. I'm not stating that North Korea is a good guy, but we get so much managed media in this Nation that I would really like to know the true Chinese opinion on NK. It appears to me that they are hard working, disciplined, educated, and organized. Do that strike any chords in the old cerebellum? No worries about war with NK, the country doesn't have any OIL.

Most of the theorizing I've read about in the popular press concerns the potential refugee crisis following a NK collapse

China likes it that America has a North Korea problem so we can focus much of our energies trying to keep them at bay, paying them blackmail and motioning them especially making sure they don't sell nukes on the black market. However, China doesn't want a destabilized North Korea on its border with tens of millions of refugees flooding in. I will say however, IMHO its only a matter of time before North Korea in its present form crumbles and China will have a huge mess on its border. Its sad to think that as far as the Chinese government is concerned the North Korean people are nothing more than pawns in an international chess match in a quest to be the world's greatest power.

I agree with your point, China loves our money and would do tricks to keep getting it. If we boycotted them the void would be filled quickly I suspect. At any rate I wouldnt miss any of their crap at all. Im a little biased though since my dad died in 2007 from Chinese manufactured tainted heparin...
