W.H. Releases Letters from Little Kids Pleading for Gun Control

You can buy a weapon from ANY private citizen. Now...give me access to a verification service as a private citizen and I would have NO PROBLEM running background checks on anyone that buys a weapon. But maybe people should stop parroting the idiotic 'gun show' rhetoric. The vast majority of vendors at gun shows are FFL holders and require background checks. The occasional private seller is no different than that private citizen down the street that advertises a gun for sale on a bulletin board or in a newspaper.

It nevertheless is a loophole, which should be closed.

SO...PRIVATE SALES loophole...not "gun show" loophole? I'm all for it. Give us all access to some means and I would be more than happy to do so.

I'm not parroting 'gun show' rhetoric, I'm simply backing up Dan.
So...you actually have the first clue about sales at gun show then? You know which shows are vendor only? You know the difference between FFL vendors at a gun show and a private citizen with a rifle and a FOR SALE sign on it, slung over his shoulder?

Yes.

.

IF you actually know the difference and DO in fact have the first clue about what actually happens at gun shows then you definitely WERE merely parroting the anti-gun show rhetoric.

No, I wasn't.

OK, we are in agreement. BTW, the means do exist for criminal activity. PublicData.com [ Home Page ]

All that remains is the creation of a database of nuts, but there are going to be privacy problems with that. Not sure how to implement that aspect. You have any ideas?

Based on the info on their site Im not altogether sure this will accomplish what a BCI background check would accomplish.

Personally...I think they ought to provide a kiosk where you can go with the person purchasing the weapon and have them run the check. It only takes a few minutes. That or be able to call a local PD. When I have sold guns (not a regular occurrence) I always arrange to meet at the county sheriffs office to make the transaction. I know people there...and I figure if the person is willing to go into a lobby at the sheriffs office to make the transaction he or she is probably aces.

BTW...the NRA response to 'illegal' sales is the same as mine. If you find people doing something illegal ARREST them and prosecute to the fullest extent. There is no need or requirement for any new laws...just act on the ones already in place.
