This is why politicians get the reputation they deserve. Senator Mike Crapo from Idaho was arrested for DUI on Dec 23,2012 at 1 AM. This is his version of what happened:

Alexandria police stopped Crapo shortly before 1 a.m. after he ran a red light. Police said his blood alcohol content at that time was 0.11 percent. A second test at the local jail found the level at 0.14. It is a crime to drive with a level of 0.08 or higher.
Asked to describe the events that led to his arrest, Crapo said, “I was drinking alone at my home and I got into my car alone. I never got out of my car and I was not going to meet anybody. It was simply a drive of frustration. I couldn’t get to sleep and I made the very poor choice that I would go out and go for a drive.”
Crapo said he didn’t know he was impaired when he got in his car, but turned around after realizing he shouldn’t be driving. “I turned back, and that’s when the police officer pulled me over,” he said.

The drive lasted 30 or 40 minutes, he said.

But many voters will buy his slop that after getting drunk on his arse he decides at 1 AM to just go for drive. Probably the more accurate story was that he was out drinking at bar chasing some strange tail, either M or F, and was headed home when he ran a redlight and got pulled over.

But as the old saying goes that you can tell when a politician is lying when his mouth is moving.

What he says doesn't matter.

What matters is that he ran a red light, and that he had a BA content over .08. Everything else is just fluff.

True, the facts are what matters there is no denying he was almost twice the alcolol level allowed to drive.

He should have just said he made a stupid mistake and accept his punishment.

But his statement
]“I was drinking alone at my home and I got into my car alone. I never got out of my car and I was not going to meet anybody. It was simply a drive of frustration. Maybe it could be that politicians have a hard time talking without throwing in a couple good lies.

Since I don't live...and have never lived...in Idaho, my question would be: Why should I give a crap about Crapo?

Because, though you have no part in electing him, he can still help make laws that affect you.

shrug...

If he keeps up like he's doing, he won't be making many more laws. Congress frowns on their guys who can't maintain appearances.

I think you have more confidence in Congress' willingness to get rid of miscreant members than I do.
