Lake Superior State's 38th list of banished words - Yahoo! News

DETROIT (AP) — Lake Superior State University's 38th annual list of banished words:

— fiscal cliff

— kick the can down the road

— double down

— job creators/creation

— passion/passionate

— YOLO (You Only Live Once)

— spoiler alert

— bucket list

— trending

— superfood

— boneless wings

— guru

I heartily concur!

Any additional words that we need to add?

The hell am I supposed to say if I have 11 up and the dealer has a 5 showing? Just "hit me"?

Forget that. Kick me out.

The worthless drivel continues.

When used in reference to our fiscal problems "kick the can down the road" has been replaced by "push the Buick down the road".

job creators/creation - these have been moved to the "Enemies Of The State" list.

Why is Universiy banishing words? Aren't Universities supposed to be the place that promotes openmindedness and encourag thoughtful reasearch? Banning words seems against everything a Uni should stand for. Rings similar to book burning to me.

Hard to believe, but I actually agree with you here. However, I answer your question by pointing out that today's universities have become bastions of liberalism where diversity is demanded in everything but opinion and, in Orwell's phrase, that which is not mandatory is forbidden. Free and open discussion is intolerable to those whose knowledge is limited to the daily talking points.

No, the problem is that people use the term as if "job creators" are these mythical beings we must appease so that they bestow upon us the blessed "jobs."

As a person in charge of hiring and firing, I can assure you that the real job creators are my customers.

It's good that everyone else understands what "Job Creator" means.

It doesn't matter how much money I have in my wallet. The current recession is a demand-side recession. You could hand me a check for a billion dollars, if I don't think I can sell any more widgets I have no reason to hire more widget makers. To sell more widgets, I need my customers to have more money and more desire for widgets.

I need the middle class to expand so that I have people to sell my services to. My paying an extra 3.5% top marginal tax rate is going to have no effect on that whatsoever.

Well when I come out with a new product I hire people to mfr, market and distribute that product. I do and will continue to consider myself a job creator. I'm the one that spent the time, energy and money to make it happen, I'm not waiting for my customer to come and ask for more. I certainly agree the term is over used but we are not mythical and I'm not aware of anyone try to "appease" me. I must be spending too much time trying to get that target off my back.

There is plenty of demand for energy and if the federal regulatory agencies would scale back their ridiculous rules, the producers could get to work satisfying that demand. The real problem is Obama spreading the wealth and misallocating our capital to fatten the wallets of his supporters. Obama seems to be taking his economic cues from Putin.

We seem to to get into a loop here. fewer middle class jobs means less demand which means fewer jobs. I fail to see how higher taxes on anyone solves the problem. Throwing in more regulatory burdens doesn't help either.

I'm glad you have an extra 3.5% to throw around. Many of us do not. My main competition is overseas, another 3.5% to me is just another kick in the groin. I'd go along with it if I thought there was a chance it would help our fiscal situation, it will not. It will only result in new spending which will require more revenue which will require more taxes which will mean fewer jobs... I'd swear I've seen this movie before.

Honestly, I don't see any reason to ban any of those words or phrases with the exception of YOLO since the majority of people that use the phrase are idiots.
