Cops: Man fatally shoots himself while showing off new gun's safety

so, if this process is replicated, where the trigger is pulled while the safety is set, and the pistol does not fire, then these two 'friends' are arrested as perps, right?

I doubt the safety malfunctioned. What is more likely is he thought the safety was on when it was not.

This has nothing to do with a 'gun' and everything to do with Darwin busting his ass trying to prevent at least a few people from further polluting the gene pool.

Completely agree, if we could only round up all the people we think are idiots in this world and put them all into one place, we would be a much better society. In fact, we could do this, while at the same time giving them remedial jobs without pay. Then when they become useless to us, we can gas them or burn them in ovens and throw them into a big pit.

Wow, you don't even know this person and your willing to condemn them to death because of a simple error that could probably happen to just about anyone. The problem in this situation is that this individual had a false sense of confidence and became complacent. We have become a society that has become complacent when handling something that could kill us or someone else in a split second. We are all being told that guns are safe, and this false sense of security is what leads to these situations. Guns are for one purpose, to kill or incapacitate someone. This is not being taken seriously enough. And to be happy about the loss of a persons life is sickening.

The guy pointed a gun at his face.......... and pulled the trigger.

Could you please answer me this? Who is to blame in this video? The person, the gas, or the fire?

Not the smartest person in the wold, but the gas and fire certainly was the cause of his death.

Also rule number 1 of gun safety. Never, ever, ever, ever, even if you think the gun is unloaded or the safety is on, point a gun at yourself or anyone else.

Also, the guy didnt die or get hurt in the fire video. As I doubt you were being some type of facetious.

I agree that is beyond stupid but if he actually did set the safety there is gonna be one hell of a law suit.

Yes, there will be if the safety malfunctioned. So, I guess in this case we can agree..

It was the guns fault.:2razz:

PROOF: Guns don't kill people, people do. Thank you for the pro gun post!

Well that's evolution for you. Anyone who points a loaded weapon to their face, even with the safety on, is a moron of the highest caliber and shouldn't reproduce.

I agree, but would like to add: Don't point unloaded guns at anyone either. It's the #1 gun safety rule. If you do not fully understand and adhere to this rule, you have no business owning a firearm.

yes, if the safety did not malfunction then we have a bigger quagmire:
... The two witnesses said Perry was displaying his recently purchased .25-caliber handgun when "he set the safety ...
possibly they assumed he set the safety when he had not actually done so (effectively)

or that is an alibi to explain why they should not be held as suspects in his murder

Smooth moves bro.

Gotta love the irony.

Another idiot with a gun. Now he's dead.
Why do people have hard-ons for weapons where they will pull them out and use them as a conversation piece?

Cops: Man fatally shoots himself while showing off new gun's safety - chicagotribune.com

A 21-year-old Joliet man accidentally shot and killed himself while trying to demonstrate how the safety mechanism worked on his new handgun, authorities said today.

Deon D. Perry was pronounced dead at 5:40 a.m. Saturday at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.

Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said today that the mishap occurred around 5 p.m. Friday as Perry was sitting in a vehicle in front of his home with two other people.

The two witnesses said Perry was displaying his recently purchased .25-caliber handgun when "he set the safety, pointed the gun at his face, pulled the trigger and the safety didn't work," Roechner said. Perry was shot in the right side of his face near his nose.

Perry's friends called 911 and were joined by police on their way to the hospital's emergency room.
At least he had the common decency to point the gun at himself instead of someone else.

As with any inherently dangerous device, a certain number of accidents will occur with firearms.

Having said that, far more people die in bathroom accidents, so maybe we should abolish bathrooms.

You're the first person in this thread to bring up banning anything.

It really doesn't matter whether the safety mechanism was malfunctioning. The man pointed a loaded weapon at his own head and pulled the trigger.

just goes to prove that you can't fix stupid.

The 4 rules of Gun Safety:

1. All guns are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Sound advice. If you need to get off a warning shot, cover fire. Aim for the corners of buildings on the outside wall (if you are inside duh). Top corner. Most likely to hit studding or safely off beyond the building.

I have another question, who wastes their money on a .25 cal handgun anyway?

I could have saved his life that day...but sadly, I can't be everywhere

He violated the number one rule of firearms: never point it at something you don't intend to kill.

He might be a runner up for the Darwin Award.

I like to coin a new term and that is "gun machoism".

This is why people should have to take and pass a firearms safety course before legally owning a gun. With rights come responsibilities.

I second the motion. We can't always trust that stupid people will harm only themselves and thus strengthen the gene pool.

Clearly not the smartest guy. First, he bought a. 25 acp, the least useful caliber for anything except maybe shooting youself in the face. I'm shocked that it killed him. That round carries about 61 ft/lbs of energy leaving the muzzle. It takes on average 59 ft/ lbs to go thru a sternum. So first he makes the decision to buy a firearm and chooses the worst one he can and then he breaks the first and second rules of gun safety. The guy was an idiot. I'm more surprised he lived as long as he did rather than the fact that he died.
