Associated Press Story: Believe It or Not Mass Killings Are Not on the Rise, They Are on the Decline | TheBlaze.com

While the perception in the wake of this year’s mass shootings has been that such acts are on the rise, the Associated Press found that it’s actually the exact opposite when you look at the data on a macro level.
“There is no pattern, there is no increase,” says criminologist James Allen Fox of Boston’s Northeastern University.
He adds that the random mass shootings that get the most media attention are the rarest.
While mass shootings rose between the 1960s and the 1990s, they actually dropped in the 2000s. And mass killings actually reached their peak in 1929, Grant Duwe, a criminologist with the Minnesota Department of Corrections who has written a history of mass murders in America, says.
Chances of being killed in a mass shooting, he says, are probably no greater than being struck by lightning.

I see the Fox News, NRA and GOP spin/lie machine is hard at work.

For the record... there should not be mass shootings at all.

LOL, the "BLAZE"

ohhh, and by the way, how come "the BLAZE" didnt link to the AP story??? hummm

not a single f------ link!

Just..... out of curiosity....... What does it say about the two of you that you are so militantly against this good news that you seem to have jumped on the defensive about it?

What do you have to gain so much from the INCREASE of mass shootings?

ummmm, the "blaze" is misleading perhaps? Why doesnt the blaze link to the AP story so we can verify?

I'm sure those parents in Newtown are so relieved to hear this.
The mob shootings of the 1920's were not aimed at our children. They were rival gangs killling each other.

Gun ownership declining as a percentage:

Hand guns are responsible for most gun-related homicides (goes to the argument re: assault weapon ban):

Tried to go to the referenced articles but had a hard time finding them:
New York City is also known for its strict gun control laws. Despite local laws, guns are often trafficked into cities from other parts of the United States, particularly the southern states.[99][131] Results from the ATF's Youth Crime Gun Interdiction Initiative indicate that the percentage of imported guns involved in crimes is tied to the stringency of local firearm laws.[100]

I think all of that data is thrown out the window with the current increase of mass shootings. And yes, there is a current increase in these killings.

Not according to Mr. Fox.

then i suggest that Mr. Fox should look at the current data over the past 4-5 years. Do you agree?

If you read his statements, he did. So while I agree with your statement, it does nothing to further your argument.

I think all of that data is thrown out the window with the current increase of mass shootings. And yes, there is a current increase in these killings.

Even when several Professors of Criminology tell you otherwise, you stick with your view.

You WANT there to be an increase in mass shootings.... you NEED there to be an increase in mass shootings.

And how quickly you jump on the defensive at the mention that these mass shootings aren't as common proves this.

its sad really.

it makes me wonder if it isn't people who are like minded that are the ones committing these damned shootings........knowing they will be even more famous for being the rotten bastard that created the knee jerk reaction that caused the living to lose rights.

Damned Fox News, NRA and GOP spin/lie machine.

You're not losing your silly gun rights. No one is taking them away from you. You can relax. There's needs to be more regulation, but that does not mean your rights are being trampled on.
christ! the paranoia of some people.

Indeed...that Damned Fox News, NRA and GOP spin/lie machine again comes to mind.

The data is reflecting trends over a long period of time. Looking at a months worth of data and trying to use it refute the long term trend is absurd.

Short Term....... Yes, shootings are on the rise...

In fact....

Between When Bush Took Office and when he left.... over a 8 year span..... We had 10 what are considered "Mass Shootings" totaling in 95 deaths.

In the mere 4 years that Obama has been in Office...... a 4 year span....... We have had 17 "Mass Shootings" totaling in 139 deaths. Including 9 just this year alone.

Im sorry if I sound like a conspiracy nut, but I find it convenient that the gun control party gets in office and mass shootings increase in frequency. ESPECIALLY considering most of the mass shootings that occurred during Bush's presidency occurred after the 2006 mid term elections where the Democrats took the House.

I know.... sound the conspiracy theory nut music.... I think I've gone mad but I can't quite shake this notion.

Shouldn't be lots of things at all. But humans being human, it ain't a perfect world.

But if even one of these horrors can be prevented by education and regulation then it will be worth the effort. Don't you agree?

Once again, someone looks at the link and doesn't bother to go any farther.

The whole damned story is the AP piece.
