You know I was looking at this and wondering why we don't impose a tax on the top 5 and give it to the bottom 5? I mean come on we want "fairness" right?
Obama will get a man right on that! Yes he can!
"a man" you mean a committee, a team, and a convention! Complete with a golf outing I'm sure....where
are the soak the rich libearls in search of fairness? Shouldn't they be all over this? I mean this is "top 5"
stuff we're talking about here! This isn't 3 million people (1%) this top 5!
Gee, Detroit was #1. I'm so shocked.
It goes to show the idiocy of the pro-union fools. It's not a coincidence.

Because Washington D.C. made the list of top 5 richest?
Thanks for playing the race card though, hyper-lib. Par for the course.

I agree. After that, we can make all doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. get on their knees and beg for forgiveness.

My bad. More proof that we need a sarcasm font.
I thought you were going haymarket on me.
That is sort of a chicken and egg argument, is it not? Why would just Detriot be this "hotbed of racism" and not other parts of that state, or even other midwestern cities/states? It is a normal part of the cycle of urban decline that those with the means to escape (yes they are mostly richer and whiter) do so, leaving only those that have no reason (or means) to move elsewhere. To ascribe racism to those that left Detroit would mean that few (or no) blacks left, which is not true.

If you check the 1950 Detroit population - and break it down for both blacks and whites and compare that to the 2010 census results you will see that your claim is NOT TRUE. I will look them up and add them here.
this is very useful.

You will see that from 1950 to 2010 basically five out of every six whites left the city. During that same time, the number of African American has increased. If whtie population had only remained stable during that same period, Detroit would still be one of the ten largest cities in America. The loss of over half the population in sixty years is directly attributed to the loss of white residents.
That is indeed the what, but not necessarily the why. Corelation does not equal causation. Some different versions of Detroit's "history" follow: The Urbanophile » Blog Archive » The Reasons Behind Detroit’s Decline by Pete Saunders
