Business Insider:

Conservative firebrand Glenn Beck has joined a growing chorus of Republican commentators in defending gay marriage, laying out a strong case for ending government opposition to letting same-sex couples wed.

"Let me take the pro-gay marriage people and the religious people — I believe that there is a connecting dot there that nobody is looking at, and that's the Constitution," Beck said during a recent segment of his online talk show. "The question is not whether gay people should be married or not. The question is why is the government involved in our marriage?"

...

"What we need to do, I think, as people who believe in the Constitution, is to start looking for allies who believe in the Constitution and expand our own horizon," Beck said. "We would have the ultimate big tent."

It's astonishing that Beck is starting to come around to positions that authentic libertarians were advocating for decades ago.

That isn't softening, and there is no such thing as "gay-rights". There is not one gay person on earth.

Amazing. It's like trying to decipher the runic hieroglyphics of some long-dead alien civilization.

What do you mean "(t)here is not one gay person on (E)arth"? That they exist purely in your mind, a solipsistic nightmare by which you torture yourself?

Being that Beck has been gravitating toward libertarianism for a few years now, I'm not sure why you would find it astonishing.

You friends with Ahmadinejad by any chance?

Beck's never 'gravitated towards libertarianism', though he certainly saw fit to try to co-opt the mantle (like many conservatives) during the waning days of the Bush Administration. He couldn't even bring himself to bear to support a milquetoast paleoconservative like Ron Paul.

Libertarianism is most emphatically not 'conservatism with a human face'.

I find it astonishing that Beck still has listeners....
we really need to improve our education system.

*Facepalm* People just don't think logically anymore!

Sorry, it's corrected!

At any rate, logical thinking leads one to naturally assume that there are, in fact, gay people, because there are an awful lot of people who call themselves 'gay'. I assume you wouldn't appreciate my declaring that there are no such things as 'Christians', even if one could make a stronger case for there being no Christians than there being no gay people ("In truth, there was but one Christian, and he died on the cross").

Beck is sniffing the wind..

He's thinking about changing his brand (from selling gold and apocalypse to insecure tea partiers to . . . I don't know what!)

I think something snapped in my brain when I read that, I have a headache now. Its like the stupid gave me whiplash

If he has, he's been doing it very slow and all wrong. He mostly has been pandering to the religious right. His show was nothing more than him posting pictures of hitler next to obama on his blackboard and saying "See what I mean!" He uses sensationalism and the waving of his hands to get conservatives angry.

I wouldn't call his stances libertarian at all. This was certainly a huge transformation of his views.

Only thing I'm going to say here, I believe in two things 1) National sovereignity and 2) Human rights. This said I don't believe in (X)Rights but rather if one is human(naturally all of us were born human so it all follows from there) then it comes down to individual choices, if X church wants to marry Y couple then so be it, if person of X(insert whatever you want here) wants to do Y(insert individual behavior without consequence here) and hurts no one or takes from them then so be it.
