Seems the whole world is getting frisky trigger fingers...somehow someone make this out to the fault of the United States or Israel.

[h=2]The Japanese government has ordered its military to shoot down the missile that is expected to be launched by North Korea as early as monday

If North Korea does do this I think there needs to be war and a destruction of the North Korean leadership.

Very dangerous. NK has a huge amount of conventional artillery poised to destroy Seoul within the first hour of a renewed war... or so I am told by military officers that have served in Korea. It is, according to them, one of the main reasons SK doesn't want anyone kicking that football down the field.

It is disturbing, but this is also standard NK proceedure... rattle the sabers, then ask for more foreign aid in return for being quiet for a little while.

It works about as well as giving a brat a cookie everytime they cry.... they learn to cry for cookies.

They'd be decimated in a week.
Think that Iraq was steam rolled, these guys wouldn't stand a chance.

I wouldn't be so sure, they have one of the largest armies in the world, and if I remember correctly the most, or near most number of artillery cannons. They clearly eventually would lose, but I certainly don't think that it would be that fast.

It would be quite satisfying to give them what they've been asking for... but China would get seriously pissed.

No one is blaming the United States, and as for blaming a DPRK missile on Israel that makes even less sense.

Do you even know what a war with North Korea would look like, I can't believe after over 10 years of Afghanistan and 8 in Iraq people still think wars are simple matters

Just my grossly uninformed opinion, but we wouldn't have to put any boots on the ground to mash them up.
Of course SK, would need to dig in to hold the line, but I'm still certain a joint attack force would **** them up quick.

I'm not a pacifist, I think an insane militant government that poses an immediate threat to our allies should be destroyed by military force. They should not be allowed to exist and govern a nation.

And the fact that our allies aren't interested in a war means what to you?

Is Japan not ready to use military force as a defensive measure if NK launches misses? I think we should discuss things with our allies and if they are totally opposed we should reconsider going to war, but I do think that if we can win support that we should go to war without a doubt.

A war is relatively straight forward, we kicked the **** out of Afghanistan and Iraq (the country's proper military), really quickly, it's any remaining militant groups that have caused so much strife.
No I'm not arguing for going to war, but I do think that we'd had them their asses in short order.

The slight difference between Iraq, Afghanistan and North Korea is that neither of countries has a leadership with a few thousand rockets aimed at another country. We shoot Pyongyang and as a minimum we'll see a few hundred thousand civilian casualties in South Korea which will be inevitably blamed on the US.

Very true and good point.

Best we can do is let Asian start its own conflict and we just pile on WWII style. In any scenario people will still find reason for blaming the US but at the very least, we won't be involved in the immediate cataclysm device.

Well... that'd be alot easier if there weren't 30, 000 American military personnel already stationed in South Korea...

And hey! We do ;) Magical how things work out.

Don't they have nukes!

Sort of. Big heavy crude ones that don't always work right, not the sort you can easily mount on a missle.

Incidentally their missles are named No-Dong missles.... amusing no? :)

Yes it is pretty straight forward if you don't count the hard part I guess.

There's a difference between preparing to shoot down a missile and favoring regime change through war, also don't forget that Japan's own Constitution does even allow it to go to war. Why not let our allies come to us first rather than us going to them, if they want war they will make it known.

When I was there, they had threatened to do this as well. However, they allowed it to fly over japan and land in the sea. This is just saber rattling by the Japanese. They will not shoot it down unless its trajectory looks as if it will strike them. They will just let it fly over harmlessly. To shoot it down for any other reason would be to risk having large chucks of missile land one someones house or kill someone.

That nation is devoid of information. The citizenry would fight much harder against what they would be told an invasion that eats their babies and they'd believe every single last word. It'd be a much harder fight.

They wont destroy Seoul, but it would be very bad for the suburbs and exurbs and damage would hit the city itself mostly from missile artillery. I'd still welcome the conflict as an opportunity to decisively strike and abolish what is probably the most horrifying regime that has come about since the end of the Second World War. It is a blight on humanity and a cancerous danger.

Then why aren't we selling the south korens, the iron dome system?

I think it is pretty serious if Japan is saying this, they are probably the most pacifist of all the power players in Asia right now. They have a right to defend thier territory.
