Obama to GOP: I’m done negotiating with myself

The tax increases are going to happen either way. Because the tax cuts, not just the bush tax cuts but the other too, will end on the 1st of jan. And that is the fiscal cliff. Because the tax increase will increase on EVERYBODY.

So. Obama will get his way, at least some of it. If the republicans are serious about helping the american people, they should negotiate with Obama.

Well said. if the GOP chooses to let the middle class tax cuts expire to protect the tax cuts for the wealthy, they will pay a dear price in 2014.

He presented a plan. The Republicans laughed at it. It's now their serve.

As we should have.

How are we supposed to continue creating jobs if we don't have another tax cut?

Eh.. no... because the rich will get a tax increase when the tax cuts expire.

It is not the GOP who chooses anything. It needs to be a bipartisan agreement. That means that both parties are choosing not to be reasonable at the expense of the american people. This is nothing new because they have been this way for a long time. And the american people have voted for the same people to be in Congress this time around. Well, a few less republican senators and a few more representative republicans. Anyway. Nothing changed.

Also, Obama struck down the 2.2 Trillion spending cut + revenue increase plan the republicans put forward. So I guess they're both even on being unreasonable. Now its time to pull together, talk sense and make compromises.

See. one statement. 2 interpretations.

No, I posted a comment to detail how I see things. It is just above. Post #155.

The Republicans have to act to renew the tax cuts for the middle class, or lose control of the House in 2014.

Bottom line: We have PLENTY of revenue already, and this tax increase will only add to the amount of wasteful spending in Washington. It won't go to the debt because it never does.

We have a spending problem only. Not a revenue problem. Unless, of course, you have dependent citizens that you need to keep dependent.

But not the democrats that have only talked about tax increases for the rich and by all accounts and purposes have been completely uninterested in the process? I never did understand the American people but it seems as time goes on they are making less sense.

Pretty much. The idea that the revenue from tax increases will go to debt is ignorance at its finest.

Obama is spending 5.60$ for every real dollar of GDP Growth. He has to borrow and print the rest. We need Economic Growth. Not tax increases. We need spending cuts. Not tax increases.

President Obama has been illegally spending at TARP levels of expenditures for 4 years. Harry Reid will not pass a budget.

Obama spent half of TARP

Obama and the Democrats passed the Omnibus Spending Bill

Obama and the Democrats passed his failed stimulus which did nothing to stimulate the Economy and was awash in fraud and cronyism

Obama is running trillion+ deficits every year. His administration spends currently about 3.8T a year

Obama claimed that raising taxes during a recession is the wrong path forward. He even extended the Bush Tax cuts which we can now call the "Obama tax cut extensions"

Revenue to the Treasure increased dramatically when taxes were cut because economic growth + more workers/low unemployment = more revenue to the Treasury

Let's go back to the Clinton era Spending levels and do what Clinton did. Cut Capital Gains taxes.

The groundwork for a compromise is being laid. That groundwork includes the point being made by the Whitehouse, that Congress should extend the tax cuts for the middle class as a start, as both sides agree on this and it is supported by the great majority of Americans.

And if the democrats continue to not budge on tax increases for the rich while being willing to allow all tax cuts to end if they don't get their way face nothing. I think its funny how that works. One party wants all tax cuts to continue and the other wants to hold out for one group to have an increase but its all the formers fault because the later didn't get their way. Its a bit odd how the evil guy here is the guy wanting no tax increases while the guy that is causing problems which could result in everyone getting a tax increase is the good guy. I swear I'm an alternate universe where everything is backwards.

If we had "plenty" of revenue, there would be no need to cut services for seniors and the middle class.

That's nice. I am aware of all that. However, it doesn't change the fact that Obama will get his tax increases if the republicans don't come to terms and in exchange for giving Obama his tax hike on the wealthy to give tax cuts to the poor and the middle class. And also cut spending. You are right. Spending needs to be cut. Obama wants a win and this tax hike on the rich will be a massive PR win. Not that much an economic win, but a massive PR win. And he wants it.

Why are you people still claiming "middle class tax cuts" when Obamacare is the largest tax increase on the poor and middle class in history

People who make less than 60K a year have more disposable income than those that make 60K a year because of Government subsidies and hand outs. That unfairness can be laid directly at the feet of Obama and the Marxists/Socialists/Collectivists who support him.

The Democrat controlled Senate has already passed renewal of the middle class tax cuts.

It's not a "tax cut" when the rate has been the same for 10 years

The majority of American people do not agree with you.

Yup, and said they will not talk about extending the cuts to the rich.

Have you forgotten, or were you ever aware, that the Bush tax cuts were temporary.

I wonder if all those middle class people think their tax rates for the last ten years were temporary and are ready to give them up? I bet on both the answer is no.

Why should they? They have hurt our economy and the great majority of Americans don't support them.
