"Three AIDS activists protesting budget cuts threatened by the fiscal cliff were arrested Tuesday afternoon after they stripped in the outer office of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), according to authorities.
The U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement that the women were charged with lewd and indecent acts, a misdemeanor. Police said they did not know whether Boehner was in his office when the protesters converged shortly after12:30 p.m. and disrobed.
Boehner's spokeswoman did not immediately comment."*

Cenk Uygur breaks down the naked truth behind the protest: protestors were trying to bring attention to the proposed over $1.2 bilion in cuts to HIV/AIDS research funding that will literally "make them sick." If not kill them

Was an odd protest. But guess what sometimes these acts raise awareness to issues and get peoples attention. The issue is that medical research funding which AIDS research and what not is covered under this, might be cut, and might cost peoples lives. Odd protest? Sure. Did it grab peoples attention and is raising awareness to this issue? Yes.

True they made of looked like "morons" but they got there job done on grabbing the media's attention and grabbing peoples attention to this issue.

So, does this mean we're going to cut spending? Isn't that the American Dream?

It could be worse. We could have "Boehner Occupies Naked AIDS Activists."

Not in a good way.

Why does the government need to do this?

I'm partial to abstinence awareness, myself. ;)

Austerity sucks. All kinds of peoples' personal oxen get gored.

As for stripping naked in the man's office to protest, those idiots should have been set on fire.

How does it cost people lives? Is it costing people lives or did their own actions cost them their lives? How many new aids case are healthcare workers, first responders and monogamous sexual activities?

The truth is that aids is 100% preventable. If everyone acted responsibly, there would no longer be aids in the US and modern countries. Every case of aids can be traced to someone acting irresponsibly. The people who get aids that acted responsibly are infected because someone else didn't.

Is it the governments responsibility to fund research for a disease that can easily be prevented so that those who act stupid can continue to do so carefree? I don't think so. For those who are infected by others acting irresponsibly, I would dearly love to help them and if I could, I would offer them a cure. For the ones who will not take simple precautions to protect themselves and become infected. Tuff **** you morons.

In one breath, you concede that responsible people are infected by the actions of irresponsible people. In the next, you deny that the government should do anything to help prevent or cure the disease because it would enable the behaviors of the irresponsible people.

Do you care about the lives of responsible citizens, or not? Make up your mind.

I do not think it raised awareness at all. Showing up naked to an elected official's office just makes you look like a dumb ass or nut and sweeps any message under the rug.

It's a homophobic religious right wet dream. Ask Ted Haggard.

It just makes them look like morons.

Well, color me old-fashioned, but public nudity is against the law as well as stupid. And I don't need my consciousness raised about HIV/AIDS.

Why does the government need to do this?

The private sector companies don't as they only care about hitting their profit goals.

And suddenly big government is the alternative? Ever heard of personal responsibility, and person to person charity?

Yup. Ever hear of social responsibility?

Maybe you really need to worry about the stupid wasteful government spending that does not work toward saving lives.

Personally, like I said, if I could make a cure, I would only give it to the innocent victims. I also pretty much think that anyone who passes aids to another person is guilty of torture and attempting murder, at a minimum and murder if that person dies, and there for should be convicted of doing so and taken out back and shot. The risk factors have been known for decades, testing has been available also, there is absolutely no reason for an infected person engaged in risky factors not to know they infected.

Do I care, sure I do, but enough to spend billions for a cure to a disease that shouldn't even exist any longer, no. Finding cures for disease, except by military doctors treating conditions unique to military service, is not the governments job or responsibility. If you think more needs to spent, the go donate to a charity doing the research and deduct it from your taxes, that and shooting the criminals that pass it to others, is the only involvement the government should have.

It is not the governments job to save lives, it is the governments job to provide the freedoms and environment in which industry and charities can go about the business of saving lives and to provide an environment where people are free to make their own choices and live, or die, as the result of those choice. The government cannot even save lives by murder laws, it only punish those who break that law, only an individual can reasonably protect themselves. It cannot save anyones life, everyone dies, even if it provided all the medical and drugs in the world, it can only prolong life, it cannot save it.

Almost all social programs are "stupid wasteful government spending".

We have a fundamental difference of opinion about the role of government in society, then. I believe that government has an absolute obligation to maintain order-- and epidemic diseases are a form of disorder.
