The Sad End of the Priestly Ministry of Mr. Roy Bourgeois

While the Church was busy covering up and hiding members of the Catholic clergy who were responsible for rape and sexual abuse, thus ensuring ensured continued immeasurable mental, emotional and psychological trauma to others, Father Roy was out doing what the Catholic Church should represent.

So yes, the Vatican has officially dismissed Father Roy from the priesthood and from his religious order because of his stand on gender equality. For years he has been consistent in following one single path, that of defending the rights of others, even when this placed his own life and well being in jeopardy. He has never strayed from this path.

This man founded SOA Watch, was a Nobel Prize-nominated Vietnam veteran and a human rights activist. He was and is so much more than just a Catholic Priest. You know, that's not a bad Legacy to leave behind.

Maybe it's a great legacy to leave behind. But he has left the priesthood because he could not follow the vow of obedience he took, which made him a very bad priest. No kudos for disobedience and for defiantly and publicly opposing the teachings of his church.

I think women should be allowed to be priests. They were in the old Church prior to the 4th century. Also, in the 60's and 70's there were alot of guys like this one and over time they got kicked out or recanted.

but many kudos are extended for his willingness to follow his heart and head in matters of faith
anyone who chooses to look will realize that no middleman is required where there is genuine belief

I don't see the problem here. A priest disobeys the rules set by his superiors, and they remove him from his position for said disobedience. Nobody twisted his arm to become a priest, he volunteered for it. He should have done the honorable thing and left the church voluntarily to pursue a position more appropriate to his shift in religious ideology.
like Martin Luther

And that really is the matter at hand. He is entitled to his views, he could have made the case with the Vatican, but chose to go about it in a way not compliant with the vow of obedience. That said, the higher ups have made bad decisions recently, but this does not invalidate the oaths taken by Catholic priests.

Oh how pitifully far off track the braying loons careen when they demand to fit their uncontrollable emotions into their endless causes.

Women were originally forbidden from leadership positions in the church because of the perceived baseness of men, who it was believed, would easily lose their focus upon the Heavens if a heavenly body was in front of them. It has nothing to do with the favorite little liberal emotional pigeonholes of Hate, Sexism or any of your other really awesome nonsense.

Rules are rules. if the subject priest wants to do something different, let him go where he can do what he likes, just like everyone else does all day, everyday.

thank you for the post. i did not realize someone with such balls and genuine convictions remained within the catholic church
this commenter (Sue) made excellent observations:

Ballz in the catholic faith tend to reside with the women...
