Atheist Action Halts Calif. Nativity Display; Churches Go to Court

Yes, Christians have been very active in The United States since it inception, and the country has been the better for it.

Cephus' point was that Christians have been far more than "very active," they've used their perception that the United States is a "Christian nation" to justify the use of their collective influence (which is dramatically out of proportion with the segment that the religious right actually constitutes) to shove their religion-stepped political agenda down the throats of their neighbors. That's what Cephus calls "running rampant," and he's pleased to see that being slowly and gradually reigned in.

Did your team lose today?

Do you have anything to contribute? Or are you just going to go further off topic?

So far you have shown nothing to refute even 1 point I have made. Not that you could, but since this thread is not about you, I will end it here and move on.

God Bless.

How do you feel Christians have negatively effected the United States and how would the beliefs of atheists have improved the country?

In fact this might be a good time to explain what atheists believe and the positive effect their beliefs might have had on the development of the United States.

No, there is no copyright on the sentiment but few others express it.

If atheists have an alternate message on how to treat their fellow man, I'd be pleased to hear it.

Only christians express peace, goodwill or charity?

As I've said, the arrogance and hubris of christians is awesome.

If that's so, then the atheists have no case at all, do they?

Why don't atheists pick out a holiday of their own to promote their belief system? December 25 is taken already. It may originally have belonged to the Pagans, but Christians preempted it centuries ago. It really shouldn't matter, as there are still 364 and a quarter other days to choose from.

Since Dec 25thi is historically a pagan holiday, maybe the Xstians should give it up?

Why would Xstians have veto power over anyone else wanting to use 12-25 as a feast day?

Again, the arrogance and hubris of Xstians knows no bounds.

Well, several of them were on the signs defaced in Santa Monica.

When you've got more than a guess, let us know.

I don't have to guess. As stated the City of SM cited financial reasons for eliminating the holiday concessions at the park.

Just ask the africans and native americans.

From the OP:

So, was the issue that taxpayers were losing money, or that atheists objected to the Christmas displays? Is the war between atheists and Christians over December 25 real, or is it just a matter of the city not wanting to rent space because they were losing money? I'm getting confused here. I'm not even sure what the current score really is.

What are you asking me for, ask the city or do your own research.

Who else expresses Peace, Goodwill and Charity as their expressed philosophy? Is that the atheist message as well?

It's a lot more complicated than that. What some people could argue are positive effects others could argue are negative effects. Some could point to a number of the darker points of our history and the religious references used by those at the time to justify what was done, while others could say that was merely a product of the times and point out that we now know better. In fact, some would argue that the actual causes of some of these dark moments are debatable. Some might argue whether these were in fact dark moments at all.

All I know for certain is this: We as a society are simultaneously repulsed by the effects of religious extremism and religious wars elsewhere, while at the same time embracing Christianity as a good moral system for governing at home. Many of those who oppose this government-level embrace of Christianity do so because they know full well that Christianity can be taken to an extreme just as much as any other religion.

Right, and you said, "I'm guessing the cost of administering and operating it far exceeded the rentals taken in." You don't actually know. When you do, by all means enlighten the rest of us, but until then you're just guessing.

Who else expresses Peace, Goodwill and Charity as their expressed philosophy? Is that the atheist message as well?

How do you/they feel about homos? They going to heaven?

Well, several of them were on the signs defaced in Santa Monica.

That's as far as the atheists have come along in their philosophical message? Defacing signs?

They're going to have to try a little harder if they're to gain any converts.

You're splitting hairs and I'm also going to assume it annoys more than just me.

I know you think this is an effective form of debate but I can tell you that people who are familiar with argumentation and debate techniques might find it it rather sophomoric.

Some Christians think so, yeah. Not all Christianity think that homosexuality is an abomination.

Well, the bible disagrees with you. And the bible is the revealed word of god.

I'm not splitting hairs at all. I'm simply stating the obvious -- you don't know that the displays were banned because they weren't paying for themselves. You even said you were guessing.

Many Christians will tell you that the bible is open to multiple interpretations in many portions, both because English wasn't the original language and because of historical context.

As a matter of fact, I don't. I accepted without contention that SM charged fees for the spots, if for no other reason then it sounded reasonable. But if you want to play this game, I will. That statement assumes facts not in evidence so I reject them until the OP can prove it via reputable cites.
