Job seekers will soon have a harder time finding full-time work, thanks to Obamacare. As of 2014... it will have the unintended effect of making part-time employees more desirable than full-timers.

... if a business with more than 49 full-time employees fails to offer insurance coverage, it will be required to pay a fine. ...the fine will apply starting not with the 50th employee, but with the 31st. At $2,000 per employee after the first 30, these fines add up fast. A business that surpasses the threshold by just one full-time employee will face $40,000 each year in penalties.

Businesses that can easily substitute part-time for full-time labor — in particular restaurants, hotels, and retailers — will have a strong incentive to do so.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Carl’s Jr., Hardee’s, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden are already planning to hire part-timers instead of full-timers at some or all of their locations. Other employers will restrict their current full-time employees to 30 hours a week so that they will be considered part-time under the law. And, of course, some businesses will opt to stay smaller.

France provides an instructive example: There, 50 employees is the magic threshold for whether labor regulations apply. And — no surprise — the country “has more than 2.4 times as many firms with 49 employees as with 50,” Jed Graham notes in Investor’s Business Daily.

All this is terrible news for an already bleak labor market. Congressional Budget Office director Doug Elmendorf has estimated that Obamacare as a whole will cost something like 800,000 jobs, and a CBO analysis noted the pressure that many companies will face to hire fewer full-time workers.

About the only lesson I take from this is that labor laws need reformed and that Obamacare needs to be amended to tax John H. Schnatter the full value of a castle and a golf course to help finance the legislation. The more corporations push back, the further they have to be pushed.

Very true. Maggie Thatcher explained it very neatly 30 years ago, but some people just keep trying the same old thing while hoping for a different outcome.

Isn't a 30 hour work week what the progressives want?

Isn't a 30 hour work week what the progressives want?

The Federal number for employees to be considered full-time used to be 20 hours per week. Paid vacations counted toward that number...paid holidays...everything. The laws was such in order to avoid exactly what we're going to see here: business owners avoiding having to provide benefits to their employees -- but being able to provide them to themselves.

That 30-hour rule? I wonder when it was changed?** It needs to go back to 20. That number makes it very difficult for businesses to play that game.

**I'm beginning to think the 30-hour rule only applies to the AHA. That means the plan intentionally exempts most fast-food/restaurant/retail employees. WTF? Why is this bad, you say? Because the government will subsidize most of these people. Taxes won't go up....no, they won't. Ha!

Technical Release No. 2012-01

Oh, I see. Yes, that's right. AHA intentionally raised those hours to 30 a week. Slick, huh?

Calls to boycott Applebee's after CEO threatens hiring freeze and layoffs over Obamacare

"Move over Chick-fil-A, fast food is getting political again.

Papa John's came under fire this week when CEO John Schnatter floated a plan to cut worker hours to reduce spiking employee health care costs under the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.

Now, Applebee's is being boycotted after a major New York area Applebee's franchise owner Zane Tankel threatened a hiring freeze and possible layoffs as a result of the president's healthcare plan."

Liberal kittens are so cute when they think they are the lion. $20 donations did not pay for Obama's campaign--huge corporations did. Boycott all the fast food in the world. It is free publicity for them. Guess what? Corporations are going to force the liberals to do something they have wanted to do all along--create a single payer system. Obamacare is going to allow big business to dump a ton of their overhead labor cost onto the government which is great for the corporate bottom line. Obama, however, isn't going to be the one getting the credit. The poor anointed one is going to be the one to get the blame for creating the mess that big business will exploit for every dime it is worth to them. Meow Meow Meow.

I don't feel much compulsion to respond because your assertions have no evidence (or explanations) and I'm not curious about them. If you have an argument to make, I'll be waiting.

You sound like Lenin

That is because you have not been spoon fed a response. Money wins. Money always wins over the next great political idea because it isn't a great idea until money lets it be such. Companies get to shed workers and blame Obama; companies get to cut benefits and blame Obama. It is the perfect plan. Enjoy the show.

Pretty sure he took a stronger view of such things.

My view in the matter is pretty straightforward. The global economic system is powered by American diplomatic and military strength and was created strongly in the advantage of 10% of the American public -- it vastly decreases the competitiveness of the domestic jobs market by forcing lower wages and fewer positions, which of course has the effect of pushing the middle class into poverty and extreme private debt. The cheaper costs of goods that was supposed to aid the middle class never materialized because huge populations like those in China also want to develop middle class living standards for their populations, which pushes up the cost of goods. Predictably, all of these trends are extremely favorable for the 10%.

My belief can be summed up as, "the 10% can't prop up this global economic system by themselves, so as long as it exists society can do whatever it wants with their assets to offset the strain the system puts on the living standards of the larger population."

As far as this relates to health care:

That is because you have not been spoon fed a response. Money wins. Money always wins over the next great political idea because it isn't a great idea until money lets it be such. Companies get to shed workers and blame Obama; companies get to cut benefits and blame Obama. It is the perfect plan. Enjoy the show.

This is a debate forum. Here, we argue. Only spectators are here to watch a performance.

So you believe the owner should be punished by government?

You believe the money to build a castle and a golf course, to maintain both, is better in the hands of the government rather than create jobs? You believe the government, which has done ZERO to earn this money should simply take it run it through the government meat grinder, turn a buck into 25 cents and spread it around as THEY see fit?

That is the problem with Parasite Nation... and their Parasite leader. REVENGE, and the #1 Parasite even used the word. They do not care about results, they care about a perverted notion of fairness that can never exist and only harms the people they claim they would like to help... turning them into Parasites.

It's sick... but that's Parasite Nation's ideology...

Here is where Parasite Nation's leader reveals his true self, his true goals and his perverted view on "Fairness":

I'm thinking they probably have an exemption request pending. That's the only reason I can think of as to why these fast-food operations would be telegraphing their intent.

No government doesn't take it and run it through the meat grinder it. It hands it out to the 47% so they can insure re election and continue in their routine golf outings and big arse parties.

I think that the wealth it takes to build and maintain a castle and a golf course would be better spent on paying off home financing loans among his employees. Since I can't have that, taxing John sounds like the next best thing.

Parasite Nation strikes again.

What about those who would be needed to build the castle, to repair the castle, to staff the castle, service the castle and its toys, and the same goes for the golf course. You don't like those jobs because they serve someone of wealth? Someone who could become wealthier and create more... jobs.
