FEMA Taps Private Vendors to Meet Sandy Victim's Needs

The request for bid is absolutely legitimate. It links right to the government bid website. I just read this this storm damage is two to three times the extent of Irene. Holy ****. Look at the number of people without power:

Having worked for that agency of DOD (environmental affairs was part of the DRMS and Logistics) I can tell you that ordnarily nothing moves to or from unless the paperwork is there. As far as services go they normally have to go through a bidding process. This is true (as far as I know government wide). No bid no bread.

However, I would imagine that Obama can by his power as the head of the executive branch cut some corners and I expect he has done so.

I wonder how in God's name they plan to distribute it.

It's going to be very hard, since there's no such thing as a tanker truck that can haul 25,000 gallons of water; not to mention 100,000.

Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. Do the math.

Obviously...not.

From what i have heard they were brought in by ship and are on scene right now. But 25,000 may sound like alot but its not. I would like to see some of those 100k big boys on the job.

Wiki says large tankers can carry 5,500 to 9,000 gallons. Don't know if that's true, but that's what they say.

When I really start thinking about this, it gets scary.

I never said FEMA's response is perfect, or that supplies or overflowing, so why you are asking me to prove a point I didn't make I don't know. But there's no denying Breitbart is full of ****, its silly to say otherwise.

Well, if Breitbart is full of ****, then the only other option is that things are going wonderfully and provisions are being shipped in in record time and quanities.

Really? Its one or the other? No in between? A black and white situation, only two options exist in the other either total disaster or roses and peaches? Don't be silly.

In the case of Katrina, food and water were being trucked in as early as 30 August, dispatched out of Camp Beuaregard, in Pineville.

Things are looking bad up there and as usual, Obama will be excused from any responsibility.

Let me guess the real motivation for your post. :lamo

The bulk Tankers I have seen are doubles. They are HUGE and move like turtles. I would doubt DOD has many of them. The 25,000 are also doubles.

The steer axle of a big truck can legally weigh 12,000 pounds. The two rear axles can weigh 34,000. Closed tandem trailer axles can wgh 34,000 and a 10' spread can hold 40,000. The legal gross weight is 80,000.

With a permit, the truck can gross 100,000.

25,000 gallons weighs 200,000 pounds. You would need 12+ axles to haul that legally. Now, the point I'm making, is that the law states that you can, "create an over dimensional load". Hauling more liquid than the truck can legally carry would be creating an over-dimensional load. Therefore, there are no 12 axle tankers in existance, hence there is no such thing as a 25,000 gallon tanker truck.

Doing my patriotic duty be questioning our elected leaders. That's what the Libbos have told us all these years.

Respectfully, Wiseone, and not necessarily about this story. But I've come to the conclusion that we cannot simply dismiss information out-of-hand; it's not wise. We make an assumption that the news media reports fairly, fully and accurately. That assumption may not be correct anymore.

And this thought has nothing to do with Obama. When all we are willing to believe is major news sources, we'd better be damned well sure they aren't in the bag with anybody. I'm not so sure we can be sure of that anymore...

Maybe a good motto with these sources would be, "Don't trust, but verify anyway." At least that's the way I'm starting to think.

You talking about this?

If you are, this truck is about 50,000 pounds under-rated to haul 25,000 gallons.

I do wish I could change my name, but places like Brietbart remind me of the story of the Boy who cried Wolf, even when its accurate people rightfully ignore it because its so prone to lying. I don't have the time or willingness to examine every single story by its merits alone, I have to consider the source to consider what I read.

The point is, if Breitbart is lieing, produce a link that proves so. It's as simple as that.

Especially if the story makes The Messiah look bad.

I do the same thing, for the most part. But I'm always looking mainstream to see what's been picked up. There's really not much else we can do.

For instance, the only thing I could find about this post was that 1,000,000 bottles of water and 1,000,000 meals had been delivered to New York City. Nothing is reported anywhere else. And that's not much. I've heard people interviewed on the radio who say they're out of food . . . they're cold . . . they have no water . . . no heat. I'm just not sure we're getting the whole story.

I, personally, had no idea the devastation was so far and wide:

Sandy struck states from North Carolina to Maine on Monday and Tuesday, leaving an estimated 8.2 million customers without power across 20 states.

Now, you would probably say: :rofl -- FAUX NEWZ. Not me. I believe it.

The response isn't perfect, it never is, no amount of planning prepares you for everything. And not everyone is happy, that's also just something that happens. However the OP states FEMA failed to deliver any meaningful supplies of water or other supplies, without backing it up in any way except to link to a bid for the delivery of 2.3 millions gallons of water. Its a huge leap in logic firstly because who says 2.3 million is all or most of their water? Who says none has been deliver thus far? And what about the "other supplies" the article doesn't back it up at all.

There's no substance and people like adpst gobble it.

CNN talks about it some but not much. It appears pretty bad and with a noreaster coming wednesday and thursday, I suspect a lot of people are about ready to give up. Tragic. Why people are praising Obama for making a few hour trip there is beyond me.

Uh...yeah...FEMA is doing an awesome job with the gas.

Even your article reluctantly admits that FEMA's response is substandard.

You know what FEMA stands for? "Fixed Everything My Ass".

No the gas situation isn't so great, Im not denying it, just trying to provide some real information as to what is going on. But like I've said and said again, its not perfect.

Also your source doesn't back up anything it says, does that bother you?

Your "real" information is saying the same thing I've already posted.

LOL...your link uses government lackies as it's sources. Whatelse are they going to say?

LOL...you just said my link didn't have any back up. What's it going to be?
