UPDATE: New Jersey utility denies turning away nonunion electric crew volunteers from

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

This is so exciting!:popcorn2: Keep it up you guys are quite entertaining right now.:)

....I can think of at least a couple of things off the top of my head that are just as exciting and entertaining

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

BS!

You may have later come to the position that you assert above, but it really wasn't and hasn't been the position you were arguing.

You were, and have been more than ok with them being turned away by the Union, as initially reported. And that is the hackery.

Only later did you capitulate a little by saying the following, although showing that you still supported the turning away of volunteers.

But then you go right back to it, supporting the reported event with the following statement.

And more argument supporting the supposed occurrence.

Then we have this exchange that you also show you didn't understand.

But then it again goes back to the ridiculous.
Saying it is ok to turn away disaster relief volunteers, in a time of disaster, in favor of paid employment for locals.
A ridiculous argument.

And the following sums up your position quite nicely, and is why you were in favor and argued in support of what was reported as happening.

And that is only a third of the way through the topic.

Yes, I said they should employ the union people first and if they still need volunteers, then get them. I'm not sure if they have guys available, waiting and willing to work who are already covered under union/power company contracts and neither are you. If there are, then it takes just a phone call to mobilize those guys and NOTHING else because the contracts are already drawn.

There may have been a mistake where you quoted me and I said "state" when I actually meant the power companies are getting a freebie. But I NEVER said that if volunteers were needed that they shouldn't be called in.

There is no reason why the power companies cannot PAY the people who are contracted to do the work for them to do some of the work AND the volunteers. Happy?

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

No, I was right on target with my comment about your hackery. Neither the power company NOR the union turned anyone away. That is clear and has been clear. All you are doing is switching from the power company to the union. You are wrong on both counts.
You are wrong and obviously can not admit it.
What a shame.
I was keeping abreast of the topic and the argument changed as the information did.
And the hackery was from those on the left as shown.

None of what you said above is accurate in any way.
Now you are on to dishonesty. What a shame.

Again, this has all been refuted. Not only was no one turned away, but the issue had zero to do with the power company OR the union. If you were keeping up with the story, you'd know that.
You really aren't reading what you reply to are you?
Saying they received bad info, (which it was) and that bad info being a reason they left, is not saying they were turned away.
Or do you truly not understand that?

Which had nothing to do with the Union... which you DIDN'T say. Prepared to say THAT?.
Holy mother of megatroid.
It was in the quote. I didn't need to repeat what I quoted.
Did I? Of course not.

Pay attention. It was in the quote.

Actually showing that rightwing hacks were wrong from the get go, as I have proven.
Au contraire, actually showing you are wrong, and being hackish in your assertions.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

And the bottom line is that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding. Obviously Excon just wants to keep it going, accusing people of whatever and trying to make whatever point he is trying to make. Who the heck even knows anymore?

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Except I wasn't as your further posts have proven. Are you about to admit that the issue had zero to with the power company or the union... as I have prioven?
Surely you have an inability to read what was posted.
I provided said info before you did.
Which means you didn't prove anything.

And since the report was wrong, are the rightwing hacks who have blamed the union prepared to retract? Or are they going to hold onto their hackery? Are you going to retract?
I am sure that as soon as the leftist hacks admit that their position of supporting the Union turning volunteers away during disaster recovery as initially reported, was wrong, you will get what ever right wing hacks that you think there are to admit to the information in the quotes that I provided long before you.

Which is all you have.
Deflection away from the untenable position you took.

So typical.

It *supposedly* was ONE 6-man crew. Get a grip on yourself!!!

As if you would know anything that is "typical" about me.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

And if true, it still would have been wrong.

But your support of it, or if you will, anybody's support of it, is and would be wrong.

As if you would know anything that is "typical" about me.
It is typical of a person who can not support the position they have taken.
They deflect by doing exactly what you did in that post, and in these very quotes above.

That is what is typical.

So should we call it quits, or continue?

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

And if true, it still would have been wrong. But your support of it, or if you will, anybody's support of it, is and would be wrong.

Oh Good God, why is it wrong for me to want the people who are under contract by the power company to be put to work (which is what they are HIRED to do BTW)? It would NOT slow down the progress. They could still get volunteers. So why is it wrong?

It is typical of a person who can not support the position they have taken. They deflect by doing exactly what you did in that post, and in these very quotes above. That is what is typical.

You brought it up, and look, oops you did it again.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

You brought it up, and look, oops you did it again.
There was no "oops" to it.
Your behavior was typical for one trying to deflect.

Oh Good God, why is it wrong for me to want the people who are under contract by the power company to be put to work (which is what they are HIRED to do BTW)? It would NOT slow down the progress. They could still get volunteers. So why is it wrong?
Wow! Your argument keeps changing. Before it was just those out of work. Now it is people under contract.
:doh
If they are under contract, they are working for the company.

Had this not been a disaster, there is nothing wrong with your position.

But we are speaking about the aftermath of a large disaster were they need the influx of expertise and equipment to help.
Which is a reason even the Unions agree to, and want, such help in the first place.

And it was a situation where help was asked for.
Regardless if the story had been true or not, the Union has no business turning away help that was asked for during disaster recovery.
And as reported, they wouldn't have.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Wow! Your argument keeps changing. Before it was just those out of work. Now it is people under contract. :doh If they are under contract, they are working for the company.

Are you kidding? I said, as I have from the beginning, the UNION members. I never said everyone who is out of work. You see, there you go assuming and putting words in my mouth that I didn't say, and this is really getting just plain stupid. It's like you are trying to find an argument where there is nothing to argue about. The article was an error, and you are reading MUCH more into my statements.

Had this not been a disaster, there is nothing wrong with your position. But we are speaking about the aftermath of a large disaster were they need the influx of expertise and equipment to help. There is wrong with calling the guys who are under contract with the union who are unemployed to come help with the disaster and get paid at the expense of the power companies. They can well afford to pay these guys. I'm sure that the unions agreed because all of their guys are working too. That is how it should be IMO.

BTW, I hate how you break every sentence up into a new paragraph. It makes it more work to quote you, but far be it for me to tell you how to type, so carry on. Just saying.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

YOU posted after the update... several hours in fact. Guess you couldn't be bothered to check... you'd prefer to just believe the "liberal evil, conservative good" edict regardless of accuracy. Excon has the excuse that he didn't post after 12:43... but perhaps you "right wing hacks" might not have reacted so quickly with your partisanship. And, let's see which of you shows some integrity and admits they were wrong. Then I can indicate who is and is not pathetic.

Yes, I did post both before and after the update. And yes, I could/should have revisited the WAAF-TV website and this is my mistake. Frankly after an initial perusal of links provided here on DP I rarely go back to check for updates..do you? As to your ‘skepticism’ of the Daily Caller, I understand this which is why I used the original source in #8. My second link to the similar situation reported in the Daily Caller didn’t include links but DID include person’s names and not the nefarious ‘unknown sources’. I too recognize the specious nature of many of the links furnished by posters on both sides of the isle. As to the ‘liberal evil/conservative good’ you sir misjudge me as I certainly do not feel this way. My reaction was not based on partisanship nor is it my way to do so. I firmly believe in the two (or more) party system and truly appreciate there are ‘left wing hacks’ to balance our ‘right wing hacks’.

If there are other errors in my views on this issue please point them out and I will graciously admit my error.

Ultimately my argument was against ‘preferred volunteers’ in this tragedy. I understand Chris’ position and respect it but suffice to say that the NEXT time our power is off for 5 days (or 2 or 3 which is common out here in the boonies) I don’t care if the line crew who shows up to fix it is union or not…

Note my opinion in #336.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

They won't rest until children are working 60 hour weeks.

Is that happening now in non-union businesses? Next.

It's just the first step in overturning a century's worth of progressive labor laws.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

After all we have been through together - me slaughtering every single comment that you have posted and totally embarrassing you in public, and now you want to turn away from your therapeutic growth as a person?

I just dont understand it

I hope it wasnt the invoices I sent you the other week - I thought we agreed on my 30 minute block fee charges and that you were to handle the costs of your medication

Are you renegging on our agreement?

I'm gonna have ta say no. Nothing against you personally, I'm just busy. Ask some other people, though; try the CT subforum.

So you admit that you have been dragging around garbage all your life?

Well I agree with you on that point

First time for everything folks

ecofart and I are now mates - friends for life

No, I ignored them because I think they're garbage.

I noticed that you were petrified at dealing with the other points raised in my post

Thats understandable - you deny the chains that encircle your limbs and shut your ears to the rattle of your corporate ball thar drags behind you

You dont have much time left to act ecofart - the last place you should be wasting your time in, is the INTERNET CHAT ABYSS - especially the politically impotent forums

....I can think of at least a couple of things off the top of my head that are just as exciting and entertaining

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Should of took the offer to quit when I offered.

Are you kidding? I said, as I have from the beginning, the UNION members. I never said everyone who is out of work. You see, there you go assuming and putting words in my mouth that I didn't say, and this is really getting just plain stupid. It's like you are trying to find an argument where there is nothing to argue about.
Here we go again.
Typical distraction.

Wrong! False. However you want to call it, you are wrong.

It is you who are obviously assuming.
And I haven't put a single word in your mouth. So knock off the false accusations.
And no, I am not kidding!

It seems as though you are either purposely playing a game, intentionally being dishonest, or just have no idea what you previously argued.
Which one is it?
I am beginning to suspect it is a little of all three.

And make no mistake about it folks, the above is just another attempt at distraction.

So in reply to your ridiculous assertions, we have the following.
There are more than enough "trained" people that already exist in NJ that could handle the work. ...

I care about giving the people who live in those communities the opportunity for the work FIRST. A lot of people are DYING for a job and work and money.
Were you specifically talking about Union members in this quote?
If so, why weren't you specific?
Since you weren't, why are you attempting to distract with this bs because I wasn't specific by saying "Union members"?

This is about out-of-state workers coming in to take jobs from locals.
How about in the above quote?
Again, the same question as to why you demand I be specific when you were not?

Or how about the following?

The work should be offered to the local residents first. It doesn't matter whether it is temporary or permanent. There are plenty of capable unemployed people in the area.
Local residents first? Is this you only referring to Union Members also?
Again same question as before.

Or how about this one?
Were you referring to Union Members when you specifically said the following?

Why are you assuming that they NEED the outside help to get what needs to be done in a timely fashion. Like I said, there are PLENTY of locals who are capable who are unemployed. Even if they aren't union workers, the local residents who ARE electricians, etc., should be offered the opportunity FIRST before bringing in out-of-staters who will not contribute much to the local economy.

You absolutely referred to those out of work as I said, and not just Union members as you assert.

And since I see it coming, I might as well head it off now.

First of all I never said "everyone" out of work as you apparently think I say you stated, I said "those out of work".
Secondly. "Those" out of work, specifically refers to the ones you were saying were "unemployed".
Do you need anymore clarification?

BTW, I hate how you break every sentence up into a new paragraph. It makes it more work to quote you, but far be it for me to tell you how to type, so carry on. Just saying.
That's nice. Just saying. :)

Holy mother of megatroid.
It was in the quote. I didn't need to repeat what I quoted.
Did I? Of course not.

Pay attention. It was in the quote.

You dismissed the quote with your own comments... demonstrating your lack of integrity and hackery.

Au contraire, actually showing you are wrong, and being hackish in your assertions.

No, I exposed your hackishness. So, are you going to admit you erred, yet?

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Surely you have an inability to read what was posted.
I provided said info before you did.
Which means you didn't prove anything.

No, I provided the complete information after you from the Alabama company itself... dispelling your claim that the unions were the issue. Please try some honesty, here.

I am sure that as soon as the leftist hacks admit that their position of supporting the Union turning volunteers away during disaster recovery as initially reported, was wrong, you will get what ever right wing hacks that you think there are to admit to the information in the quotes that I provided long before you.

So, that would be a no, I suppose. Always good to know when someone refuses to demonstrate integrity as you have.

Thank you. I respect all that you have said above. My perception of you based on other posts has been that you perceive things as "evil liberal, good conservative". It IS entirely possible that I misjudged that, and your civil reply shall make me rethink that.

If there are other errors in my views on this issue please point them out and I will graciously admit my error.

I think anything that I believed was an error, I posted.

I agree. In times of crisis, screw the union rules. I have a lot of respect for unions, but if they have rules in place that prevent people from getting help, then THAT'S where my support ends. Fortunately, this is not happening here in NJ.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Governor Christie did what he could to put the union/Alabama volunteers situation in perspective. It was a one-off, and I am going to accept what he said about this being the result of "bad communication."

Meanwhile, what really matters tonight is that it's very cold with a nor'easter coming in. Our fellow Americans are powerless and toiletless and cold and could use the positive thoughts/prayers of those of us who will be sleeping in our beds tonight and warm or cool enough, those of us who have a way to get to work in the morning.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

The hackery was from you and now that you have been proven wrong, you refuse to demonstrate any integrity and admit it.
The hackery is all yours at this point with your false claims and dishonesty.

I can not be proven wrong when it was I who provided, and sited the information to begin with.

You coming along after the fact, doesn't change that, or the fact that it was I who acknowledged and stated such before you.
I was the one who brought notice to it.
Not you.
But please continue in your absurdity. It is hilarious.

on to dishonesty and denial. Predictable.
Yes you were, as pointed out.

Oh, I've read that. In fact, I've SAID it.
:lamo
Yes you did, after I did.

I've also read you changing your tune to blame the unions rather than the power company.
And?
That is how the story progressed.
Changing my tune? No. Recognizing the change and no longer arguing it is more correct.

Which is exactly what a person is supposed to do, and yet you, in what is an unquestionable hackish attempt, want to say it is somehow a fault.
Strange to say the least.

You dismissed the quote with your own comments... demonstrating your lack of integrity and hackery.
False! I did not dismiss said quote.
Thereby a clear and indisputable demonstration of your dishonesty, lack of integrity, as well as your hackery.

No, I exposed your hackishness.
And again!
Au contraire, actually showing you are wrong, and being hackish in your assertions.

So, are you going to admit you erred, yet?
I have nothing to admit to that I previously didn't show and take notice of. Which is exactly what a person is supposed to do as the story progresses.
And between the two of us, you are the one who needs to admit to erring as it has been repeatedly shown that you did.

No, I provided the complete information after you from the Alabama company itself... dispelling your claim that the unions were the issue. Please try some honesty, here.
Yes, indeed! You do need to try out some of this honesty that you speak of, because clearly it escapes you.
My quote of the
"Official Press Release", which came long before you and what you provided, shows that I provided said information before you did.
And the fact that this changed what the story was, also changed the argument.
Far be it from you to recognize that in your hackish attempt.

So, that would be a no, I suppose. Always good to know when someone refuses to demonstrate integrity as you have.
The obvious showing of a lack of integrity isn't coming from this side.
The evidence proves that.

So yes, it is always good to know when someone refuses to demonstrate integrity as you have.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

More of your irrelevent bs...hiring NJerseyans first does not hurt the devestated...it helps them with faster response and helps the state recover by hiring thier own who will pay TAXS on it
The out of state crews still need to eat and stay somewhere, so will contribute to the local economy.
As to how this could hurt, let's just say NJ can field 10,000 line workers, and those workers can get services restored 360 hours.
By adding 10,000 out of state crews they may shave off 5 or 6 days till full service.
Anyone who dies because of the longer time frame, would be harmed!
And now there is a storm coming in, time was critical, lives were at stake, and they were turning away qualified help.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

It is now over 1 week, and over 1 million people in New Jersey still do not have electricity, heat, water or sewage with temperatures dropping below freezing.

What Obama and Christie are now praising each about for doing a great job - is keeping their priorities straight. All the matters is keeping non-union workers from other states having and doing work. Save the unions, let the people freeze and die.

^ That is the true spirit of America now. Unite against freezing old people on behalf of closed-shop required paying union dues at all costs as literally a life and death crusade..
