UN to be at American Polls?

I voted when I was in and back then it was paper. I dont remember it being difficult at all. I have never heard of a govt employee of any type being precluded from voting.

Ummm...you're 'precluded' from voting if your home of residence is in New York and you're stationed in California. What, you're just gonna take leave on Tuesday and fly back to vote and then come back for Wednesday? Everyone in the unit can do that?

Oh no, we were supplied with ballots. It has been a long time ago but I think we requrested them from our home state and voted by mail. Now with computers it should be much eaiser. If the military are not allowed to vote that is certainly an outrage. I think I voted like I was still living at may parents house. It has been a long time ago but I know I voted.

But what if a state says no to that. Why shouldn't the military be an exception?

The state shouldn't say no to that, and should allow early voting for all voters.

No American should ever vote early. You are simply handing your completed ballot to the liberals to manipulate as they wish. An early vote is a vote for Obama, regardless of the name you checked on the ballot.

I wonder if we'll catch a UN monitor driving around with boxes full of Obama votes in the trunk of their car. :lamo The world loves Obama.

There are no genuine democracies in the world today. They are all various analogs of
Oligarchical tyrannies. The US is a Corpocratic fascist tyranny with imperial tentacles.

even Greece isn't a democracy and they invented the concept

Wow... that's a lot of big words. But ummm by definition.... all governments (democratic and otherwise) are corporatist (not corporatic, because that's not a word). That is because if you knew the definition of corporatist, you'd know it's based on freedom of association. Maybe try reorganizing the words to suit your constant Libertarian-like attacks?

Try.... Facist, corporatist imperial government. Yeah, that will make more sense.

Yeah...that's called early voting.

Now with computers it should be much eaiser. If the military are not allowed to vote that is certainly an outrage. I think I voted like I was still living at may parents house. It has been a long time ago but I know I voted.

Right. No one said you didn't.

Oh, so they can't decide for themselves?

The point is if they don't want early voting, that's fine. But you can't do that for the military. So...yeah, the military's gonna get 'preferential' treatment.

Computer geeks seem to agree that computerized voting is fraught with peril and online voting would be impossible with any sort of integrity. Paper ballots with scan counting seems to be the most reliable, safe form of voting.

Aside from the fact that I've lived half my life in Europe, what would I know?

Europeans learn in their history books and from their grandparents about how Europe used to be the center of the world. The nations of Europe had great empires, they were influential economically, culturally, and militarily.

Today, a large number of Europeans are envious of American success. Due to their past, they feel entitled to be the kings of the world, and they view the United States with envy and fascination because of our current position.

Whenever America projects power in the world, Europeans don't like it. Even when it benefits them. Take Ronald Reagan, for instance. Europeans hated Reagan, even though he helped end communism and unify Germany.

Bush was the worst. First, he was a cowboy - the least European type of man. They couldn't relate to him. Second, he flaunted America's global power and took us to war.

Obama, on the other hand, is liked in Europe. He is understated about America's might, and he wants to draw down our military. Europeans like this.

It makes them feel like we're all on an even playing field.

nice little rant but what exactly does this have to do with the thread topic?

Oh, so they can't decide for themselves?

Well, if the people of the state want to decide for themselves, then the issue would be more legitimate if it was decided via popular referendum rather mandated by the Republican Party who would likely benefit from the change.

The point is if they don't want early voting, that's fine. But you can't do that for the military. So...yeah, the military's gonna get 'preferential' treatment.

No, the point is this was elected officials from the Republican Party who attempted to disenfranchise voters likely to vote for their opponents. Which is quite undemocratic. And so to ensure the democratic principles of our nation, early voting should be open for all voters.

Why the UN is allowed to even EXIST inside the borders of the United States is something I have questioned for years. They should not have ANY authority inside the United States, and should not be involved in ANY political activity in the USA.

Tigger, I've got news for you. The USA is a founding member of the U.N. and they even meet in this big building in NYC. Scary huh?

If I was an American I would be happy by their presence, America is supposed to be the world leader in democracy and has shed blood to make sure others have the same right. So why not validate your own democracy to the world and show fundamentalists you have nothing to hide.

They are coming to learn anything, they're coming to find something wrong. Why do you do you think the NAACP and ACLU bitched? Not because they think voting is fair.

Uhhh...what? Are you proposing getting rid of the representative democratic system and going to straight populism?

I think the point is you just want to attack the ideology of your choice and not actually discuss the topic on its own merits. Okay.

I would like a process of popular referendum so that people of the states and of the entire nation may pass legislation that our representatives are unwilling to pass because of conflicts of interests they have, either to their own hold on power or when the needs of the American people are at odds with the special interests who lobby them for campaign donations.

After all, considering the number of independent and third party voters there are in this nation, Republicans and Democrats are hardly representative of the American people.

I think the point is you just want to attack the ideology of your choice and not actually discuss the topic on its own merits. Okay.

Well, you can think that if you want, but it's not true.

The fact is that the government officials of the Republican Party attempted to make it more difficult for voters who tend to vote against them from expressing themselves in the electoral process, and the people of that state are lucky to have a court system that patently saw through this corrupt method and barred it.

Because the Republican Party would rather ensure that only voters that tend to vote for them be the ones voting than change their political positions that represent a greater number of the American people.

And I say this a registered member of the Republican Party.

So you want referendums for what you think there should be referendums for? Okay, I think most people share that sentiment. I'd also like things to be as I wanted them to be. But, realistically, there needs to be a better system in place than that.

Okay see, I came in here to talk about military voting versus civilian voting and to highlight why they're different in so many ways and need to be addressed as such. You're here to talk about party politics. If you want to talk about the differences, and if there should be some, hit me up. I don't give a **** about party politics. You cannot imagine of ****s that I do not give.

Fine. But my position is that they are not different, and both civilians and members of the military should have access to early voting.

Fine then. If you want to ignore how the Republican Party is attempting to disenfranchise voters from the democratic process that this nation was founded upon, fine. That is your choice.

But that doesn't mean it's not happening.

Tigger, I've got news for you. The USA is a founding member of the U.N. and they even meet in this big building in NYC. Scary huh?

Scary, not so much as disgusting. At least so far as I'm concerned.

Fine. But my position is that they are not different

There we go. Without getting into Republicans or Democrats or other such nonsense I don't care about, why are they the same?

Military members are asked to go to specific places that they are not residents of FOR the government. Not because they ask to. Not because they like the weather. Because they're doing it for the government. Why should they have to have the same accesses as a civilian, doing whatever he wants?

Because early voting is convenient for both civilians and military members. Which is why both should have the opportunity to vote early.

It's not 'convenient' to most active duty service members, it's 'necessary'. That is why they're different. Glad we had this talk.
