Why Isn’t the NFL Taxed?

Sounds like property tax.

Yes, but being assessed two (or three, including profit) times. First, the owner's capital is taxed, then when that capital generates profit the profit is taxed and some want again when he gives some of that profit to an association for the purpose of organization.

Should the SPLC be taxed based on member assets profit?

It's basically: "yes, we taxed the billions in owner's capital, yes we taxed the billions in owner's profit, yes we taxed all of the employees... but... we also want to tax the 178m that owners paid for association expenses."

Even if we did tax the 178m, what difference does that make after taxing billions in owner assets and profits? It's means nothing, within its own context even, and there is no real legal basis for taxing a non-profit organization's administration fees.

Should unions be taxed based on member assets and profits?

Look, people wanna tax the 178m in administration fees? Yeah, tax that 1.5% of generated revenue twice; it will not make the slightest difference in tax revenue from NFL owners and members.

Both of those statements are moronic.

lol

and yet they are based upon your statement

(I predicted that ecofarm wouldnt even understand his own dogmatic rhetoric, and his response even surpassed my wildest expectation - and he has the audacity to use a noble creature of courage as an avatar - astonishing!!!))

In my town, what should be taxed are the endless Mexican soccer games that completely take over every public park in town on the weekends and most evenings, forcing out all of the American families that paid for the parks.

The soccer participants NEVER show up on park clean up days and they always leave the field littered with dirty diapers and beer cans. The police always have to respond at least 6 or 8 times whenever the soccer types are there. All at taxpayer expense. When do these people ever pay for anything?

Go buy nfl gear, game, etc and check the receipt.
I fI buy and I pay the tax, is that the same as teh NFL being taxed?
It feels like I am the one being taxed since I am the one paying it.

Slippery slope.

High Schools sell merchandise for profit all the time for team funding.
Little leagues do the same thing.
Pee wee football, t-ball etc are almost all funded by selling various things: tickets to games, bakesales etc etc.

Oh, dont forget the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

We open that door and we will have a harder time shutting it, imo.
There IS a great deal of difficulty distinguishing between a multi billion dollar enterprise and the local chapter of the BSA?

Are you sure that these people who reside in America are not Americans who just happen to have brown skin? I have heard a rumor that not all americans look the same. I have not investigated for myself, mind you. But I have heard rumors on the intarwebz.

If it's like in my neck of the woods, we pay taxes by October. Check with you local county assesor's office. Also, around here, we pay taxes every time we purchase something from a local business. again you'll have to check with your local officials to find out about the local taxes and when they get paid.
But, hopefully the info I provided will help get you pointed in the right direction.

My point was that not only do the owners get taxed, the players get taxed, the coaches get taxed and, also, the consumers get taxed. On top of all that and other taxes, people now want to tax the ~180m that is paid to the NFL by owners, who have already paid tax on that money, for association fees. Given that the 9b in revenue is already taxed, I gotta wonder what difference people think double-taxing ~180m makes.

The money used to pay a wage is taxed when the employer receives it. Then it is taxed again as th employer's income when. Then the employee's income is taxed. When the employee goes to the store to buy something, that same money is taxed again. Then the store pays taxes on that same money as their income. The store pays it's employees, who're taxed again. and the cycle repeats.
It's clear that money in the US is subject to infinite taxation. The same money is just taxed and taxed and taxed again. It never stops. Couldn't we just pull a few dollars out of the cycle so that those dollars wouldn't end up taxed to death with all that muli-taxing that's going on?
I mean, it's the same money and it just gets taxed and taxed. It's worse than being doubly taxed. Inifinitely so.

I have to wonder why should I have to be taxed.
I mean so much money is taxed already. What difference does my two cents make?
And besides, as I pointed out above, the income I earn has already been taxed some large indefinite number of times before it even reaches my hands.
Money should only be taxed once. And everyone who receives it after that initial taxation should not have to pay taxes on it--it's the same money after all.

Maybe transactions are being taxed rather than the money itself.
idk

If we understand that the 9m of revenue total for NFL owners is taxed in many ways, including all the ways any person or business is taxed. And we understand that the NFL, itself, does not own any of the teams. Then we must wonder how wanting to tax the 178m of dues to the NFL for the administration of an organization turns into...

"Why Isn't the NFL Taxed"?

Why aren't union dues taxed. Why aren't Sierra Club dues taxed. Rotary Club. NRA. etc etc etc

Because we don't tax association dues. There is no buying or selling in that 178m, just the administration of an association. Taxing 9b once and then 178m of it twice doesn't make a bit of difference anyway. So, we want to mess with taxation of association to generate ~0 additional income from football?

Are you suggesting that my employer shouldn't be taxed because I'm taxed?

No. I'm merely pointing out that all normal taxes are paid by NFL owners, employees, fans etc. The NFL is not escaping taxation. The title of the article/thread is dumb, except in very specific context. Naive people think "hey, 30% (random invented percentage) of 9b is 3b!". No, 30% of 180m; given, the entire 9b (including that 180m) is already taxed. Taxing the association fees of the NFL organization is nonsense. Not only does it open the door for taxing the dues on every association, double-taxing 180m of 9b brings almost nothing.

This "tax the NFL" thing is an old red herring, served on a plate of profit.

According to their tax status? There is not.
According to their ability to generate revenue there is.

I dont make up the tax status, I just point out that there will be unintended consequences unless you change the tax status of the NFL so as to leave smaller organizations unharmed.
