Dr Pepper Evolution Ad Creates Controversy on Facebook

I still don't get why evolution is controversial. Organisms evole, that's not an opinion, it's observeable fact. It's the nature of life, it happened.

I grew up by the Dr Pepper plant! I'm a Pepper you're a Pepper com on be a Pepper too.

Pepper up at 10, 2 and 4

People are free to believe what they want.

OTOH, I think that bible literalists are neither the most sophisticated nor the most educated nor the deepest religious thinkers on the planet.
Belief in mythology and rejection of reality indicates to me that they aren't the bightest bulbs in the box.

But they are free to believe.

That is an unfortunate way to think. I believe in evolution myself, but there are plenty of people who do not who have well thought out reasons for rejecting the scientific explanation, and these people are typically not stupid.

Why not judge people for who they are instead of their religious views?

I'm not about to let what some nitwitts in zombieland think of my dr pepper kill my addiction to it . . . I might have to up my daily dosage to continue support.

Atlanta airport sucks, by the way - I had to take a long walk through two concourses to find a single shop that sold DP! Great Wraps - Concourse A . . . if anyone needs to know.

its a company town man Chicken and Coke (no not that one) thats all you can get.

LOL - in Atlanta they had Mr Pibb in the soda machines!! What the hell - WHO the hell puts a knockoff of a soda in a damned soda machine?!! I think I cursed out loud when I saw that.

COKE A COLA thats who. they own atlanta

I think it has something to do with the fact that the Bible says that God created the world in six days, six thousand years ago. That's somewhat incompatible with a scientific theory that says it took billions and billions of years for us to arrive here.

Those people who are inclined to take the Bible as The Ultimate Book Of Everything have an embarrassing tendency to try to apply it to everything, including science. And of course that creates a lot of conflict, and the True Believers end up wrong and in an uncomfortable place because science usually wins. They're tired of losing and want to fight back against anything that threatens the supremacy of their religious views.

Seems pretty simple to me.

I have actually met and talked with "christians" who reject the idea the world was created in 6-24 hour days. They can't quite hang there hats on a 20-40 billion year old universe but they can see where a day in the life of God could be very long indeed. Progress?

I lawfully and peacefully stand up for my belief that religious beliefs are a bunch of illogical nonsense by boycotting religious institutions.

Do you applaud me for my stand as well?

My faith says that all religions are man based and therefore corrupt. I don't boycott them because that implies emnity but I do try very hard to ignore their man based stupidty. If you can live with that then yes I suppose I could applaud your position.

Another way I lawfully and peacefully stand up for my belief that creationism is an outdated, irrational belief straight out of the dark ages is lawfuly and peacefully stating, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that I believe creationism is an outdated, irrational belief straight out of the dark ages.

Isn't it hilarious when someone contradicts himself in the very next sentence?

sorry i have read your post several times I don't see the contradiction just repetition.

It is based on the stupid believe that Genesis and Evolution both physical and natural are incompatible and that the idea that we evolved from a lower form is not in the Bible and offensive to purists. they believe that by the 6th day all life that has ever been or will ever be on the earth was created.

Ok before someone jumps on my stupid comment. When I was young my father taught me that among others there were two types of people

Stupid - have the intelligence or information to know better but don't for a variety of reasons.

Ignorant - Do not have the intelligence or information to know better and therefore are not stupid.

Creationists and those who don't believe in evolution are stupid not ignorant. by my fathers and my definition.

I know all this, I just don't get why a creation story wins over observable fact. I don't get why extremist sects of one religion get to decide what's controversial or not, and why the cameras keep focusing on these people. May as well be using the Amish as a "moral compass" for **** sake. Let's just declare cars evil and revert back to horse drawn buggies, and wear thick black wool, because we wouldn't want to offend anybody.

But you would be offending the TV preachers who would be out of work and they would tell the faithful to revolt in protest of the Anti Christ who is tryng to turn the clock back to the days of devil worship in this country or some **** like that. They are too dense for anyone to get through.

This.

But some people will ignore your post because they want to bash Christians at every opportunity, and all this post does is take away their soap box. Where's the fun in that?

Bashing people who are unlike you is much more fun.

Well, impotent outrage over tongue in cheek ads is hardly the sole purview of the religious. I remember racism allegations over a Playstation ad and accusations of sexism over men being portrayed as incompetent at household chores in feckin oven cleaner ads.

I beg to differ. First 50% of the world is below average intelligence, and of the other 50% at least 50% are ignorant.

So, if somebody believes in a literal interpretation of the bible, they are creatures of extreme religious faith. If they are not stupid, they are ignorant, and if they are not ignorant, they are afraid.

I judge people on individual basis. I make sweeping generalizations to make a point. Obviously there are literalists who none of the above, although I'd wager they are few and far between.

Those are not the only reasons for religious faith.

Interesting. I have an opposite definition:

stupid - lacking intelligence and/or intellect

Ignorant - lacking knowledge and skill

hence my priviso about sweeping generalizations.
What you call a proviso is really a self contradiction. You are unfairly stereotyping the religious by assuming that the intelligen religious are "few and far bewtween."

This is simple prejudice, and you can't undo it with a boilerplate disclaimer.
