Damn shame...the guy sensed something was awry and there wasnt anything he could do...RIP

One of the American diplomats killed Tuesday in a bloody attack on a Libyan Consulate told pals in an online gaming forum hours earlier that he'd seen suspicious people taking pictures outside his compound and wondered if he and his team might "die tonight."

Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer assigned to the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, was well known in the online gaming forum EVE Online, where he went by the name "vilerat," and was seen as a leader by his fellow gamers. Smith was killed along with three others, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens, when the consulate was attacked by an angry mob.
But hours before the bloody assault, Smith sent a message to Alex Gianturco, the director of "Goonswarm," Smith's online gaming team or "guild."

Good post. He has already become a pawn in the politics game so it's was nice to read something about the guy. I think most of us forget about all the diplomatic personnel in these unstable environments.

Why are they unstable environments?

Taking a wild guess here ... intolerant mobs of religious extremists !!
I am very active in this game and even though I did not know him personally I do still interact with people that did know him. This event puts a pall over the game, especially when many go here to vent and avoid reality for a few hours.

.

And what would be the major Academic sources that you consulted which enabled you to arrive at this sublime assessment?

The University of Hollywood perhaps? Or the supreme corporately owned US mass media which is fundamentally grounded in perfection and integrity?

I am finding it very difficult to find citizens of the USA that dont carry the standard company line - the same old racist bigoted spin. I am sure there are some enlightened US citizens that have done their research into this matter and have arrived at quite different conclusions.

It's like that in a lot of places. It's just human nature, frankly. The primitive part in all of us tells us that whoever's yelling the loudest must be right.

I'm really hoping the guy tipped off government officials - or cued in security - or even maybe called his wife and kids or something.

Honestly - who gives a **** about his online game life in light of this situation? I can't believe even Foxnews wasted time writing that.

Apparently he cared enough to send the message in the last hours of his life. Maybe you should just respect that and move on, and in the future, perhaps consider thinking about the what you write before you hit the submit button.

Nope - I put my opinion out there. They could have written about his real life or something - not about his hobby  I think it's an insult ot his memory to have that be the story of 'him' that they wrote out.

According to most Republicans, as government employees - and especially state department employees - they don't count for much.

Here's typical crap from that horses ass Newt Gingrich:

That's a complicated questions but any new government is going to be unstable. Then you have various groups angling for the oil, gold and Sovereign wealth fund. Finally you have population who I'm sure have old grudges based on past treatment and religion. A country starting over is a complicated task if you have the best of circumstances. Remember Yeltsin sending tanks to bomb the parliament.

I do find that kind of language disgusting but their politicians and the only reason they do it is because there's an audience for it. There have been numerous surveys in the last years testing Americans basic civics knowledge and talk about disgusting take a look at some of these results...

Americans put to shame by immigrants on sample civics test

Failing Grades On Civics Exam. A Crisis

American Civic Literacy

Considering how little we know about basic civics how much do you think we understand about the history of labor laws, drug safety testing, banking etc... It's hard not to hate\blame the politicians but the sad truth is most of us are woefully under-informed. I consider myself one of those people and I know more that most people I meet. Talk about frightening. Did all the smart people stop reproducing 30 years ago?

Hey, it works for Democrats. That's how Obama got elected.

Because a squad of men conducted a coordinated and preplanned assault on his building while protests went on outside? Is that not the right answer?

That should be "they're politicians" not "their politicians" but it was too late to edit

Hey, it works for Democrats. That's how Obama got elected.

It's also why Rush Limbaugh is popular.
