Obama speaks with world leader on phone while holding baseball bat

Re: Obama 's baseball bat

HAHAHA I would love that. That would be an investment opportunity like nothing else in the middle east. Let me supply a little ideology for that too: there is a popular school of thought that "nations" that have no (historic) experience in running countries, shouldn't. And Syria has clearly not run anything when Turkey has a 500 years experience in running the entire Middle East under a united administration. (Actually, this WOULD make financial sense. What do you think?)

Wow, this actually makes since.

This is a mystery to everyone???

Come on. What does a baseball bat drive a baseball into? A damn Mitt.
You guys need to get out more.

Obama speaks with world leader on phone while holding baseball bat
Posted by
CNN White House Producer Lesa Jansen

(CNN) - It's still a mystery why President Barack Obama was holding a baseball bat during his telephone conversation with Turkey's prime minister earlier this week. An official White House photo shows the president with the bat in one hand and a phone in the other.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked about the photo on Tuesday and promised get some answers but so far nothing.

The photo is getting quite a bit of attention in overseas publications wondering about "hidden messages" or the "symbolic meaning" of the president holding the baseball bat.

The White House released a short readout of Monday's call, which focused on Turkey's neighbor Syria, saying the "two leaders shared their growing concerns about the Syrian regime’s ruthless attacks against its own people, most recently in Aleppo."

Tensions between Turkey and Syria have escalated after the Syrians downed a Turkish plane earlier this summer.

Obama ,yes Erdoğan may be your puppet, but not Turkey .sorry but if you really want to fight against Asad, please dont wait untill the elections are held and start it..........

And this is relevant because??

Re: Obama 's baseball bat

What "hidden messages" Was it a video call? Could they see that Obama was holding a bat? I'm not really sure what the point of this story is.

Ditto...

I mean, unless it was a purposeful photo-op to the Turkish Prime Minister what message was President Obama suppose to be trying to convey here?

That he's going to start cracking some Turkish skulls if they don't crack down on Syria? Exactly what was this world leader suppose to comply to? Force Assad to step down? I mean, really, people. Sounds to me somebody's reaching pretty far on this one. If it's the President, good luck with your attempt at intimidation from afar. If it's the media, nice pic! The President of the United States speaking softly but carrying a big stick! Didn't Reagan say something about this during his presidency? And Romney just recently?

Hmmm....

Walk softly and carry a big stick is a Teddy Roosevelt misquote. What he actually said was:

What Theodore Roosevelt said was not "walk softly but carry a big stick" as is often mis-quoted. He gave his famous quote during a speech in 1903:

There is a homely old adage which runs: "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." If the American nation will speak softly, and yet build and keep at a pitch of the highest training a thoroughly efficient navy, the Monroe Doctrine will go far.

Actually, the misquote was pretty close, much closer than the famous "You didn't build that", "I like to fire people", "I invented the internet", and other nonsense that the people being quoted didn't really say.

Re: Obama 's baseball bat

Actually, this is a very interesting thread! And now this is becoming even more interesting, that Hilary Clinton is in Istambul. Can the Syrian war go across the border into Turkey, considering that half of the Syrian opposition forces are now in Turkey as refugees at the border?

It can, but the Turks would most likely respond with force if Syrian soldiers began bombarding/attacking revolutionaries in their territory without their permission.

Re: Obama 's baseball bat

What possible difference does it make that he was holding a baseball bat?

I am not even a fan of Obama as POTUS - but come on now.

This is ridiculous.

Now a POTUS has to hold certain items when they talk to world leaders?

I do not even begin to care what he is holding when he talks to a world leader.

And anyone that does is reading way, WAAAAAAY too much into it.

This is logical, every nation state would do this, except if they act upon some international accord that would stop them by a treat of force. (Such as British Palestine, or Austria-Hungary.)

but thats what the others want.....

Why are you saying this? Now that I know that you weren't joking when you started this thread, I am really puzzled about your expectations. Are you saying that it is a threat that the US wants Turkey in a war with Syria? How would the people of Turkey vote about such a war? Or, would such a war destabilize Turkey, which is a US-Israel interest against the Turkish people?

It's sadden me THIS has become the state of news

The news has to give the public what it wants, or it loses its audience.
What does that tell you about the state of the public?

Re: Obama 's baseball bat

whyyyyy:(

Because for all I know, someone just handed Obama an autographed baseball bat as a gift....and then he got the call. It doesn't have to mean anything.

Yeah, or he had it sitting by his desk and was fiddling with his free hand like everyone on the planet does all the time.

and it's a virtual certainty that it doesn't.

But, the media has a great track record of making mountains out of molehills. If the president farts, does that have great significance? OMG, the president farted. Was it a bean fart, or a cabbage fart? Did he do it in the presence of our allies or enemies? Was he talking on the phone at the time? perhaps he's allergic to Putin, and so that made him fart while talking on the phone with him. Does the president like cabbages? If so, or just if someone even speculates that he does, then the cabbage industry has a launch point for a million dollar ad campaign. Millions could be gained or lost on a presidential fart, after all. If it's a bean fart, was it navy beans or pintos? If it's pintos, does that mean he's pro Mexico? Maybe it means he likes illegals from there. It must, or he wouldn't eat pinto beans and fart while talking on the phone to Mexico.

and on and on. Much ado about nothing.

hillary and obama make me say this :))))))))))

That's pretty much all this comes down to. I can't believe we're making an issue about Obama holding onto a baseball bat while taking on the phone.
