Showdown over Bush tax cuts Wednesday

everyone on this board knows what death tax means-you are about the only one who writes tantrum posts when that term is used

tell us what causes this emotional need to defend that tax and what causes such umbrage when I call it a term you find unflattering?

It seems the only one who religiously uses the neologism ordered by Luntz and Faris is you Turtle.

It is not that I find your use of the silly term UNFLATTERING. I find it an outright LIE.

But you have never proved that anyone is being treated badly.

if you work all your life to have half of what you earned taken from your family that is being treated badly

stop lying. an advertisement for retirement resorts in tennessee I hear on Cincy radio 6X a day says that state has no DEATH TAXES

Lots of very very rich people disagree. Winston Churchill disagreed and he was no raving liberal or socialist. Andrew Carnegie disagreed. Lady Astor disagreed. Warren Buffet disagrees. Bill Gates disagrees.

That is either the most absurd thing you have ever said or falling down on the floor hysterical that you would use a radio advertisement as verifiable evidence. :lamo:lamo:lamo

When we came here from Europe, we did so in part to get away from the "system" that kept the rich, rich and the poor, poor. It is ingrained in our heritage to abhor old money. Working all your life to create a dynasty for your heirs is not in the best interests of the country and that is the reason it is discouraged by inheritance taxes. They are not death taxes because your living heirs are the ones who pay them and no they have never paid a dime of tax on the money before they received it . The dead can't pay taxes, but the living certainly can on new income. Like I told you before, spend it or lose it. It helps us grow. Live a little Turtle, try spending 25% of your income this year. You might like it.

lots of very rich people are statists and want the government to have more power.

warren buffet is a well known dem supporter and the death tax insulates the uber wealthy by making the mere wealthy far less likely to get to the top

remind me on what Buffett has done to avoid the death taxes he is such a big fan of

I believe in free choice-if you think the death tax is great and you are rich-go ahead and give the government everything

stop trying to kiss the dem asses by demanding other people share your love of a wasteful government

LOL-such oozing excrement. people came here because they were tired of too much government and we fought a war over taxes.

I pay 25% of my income or more in taxes. I give a lot of it away

i tire of people like you thinking you know what I should do with what I earn

its not your money

America was at it's best when the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers were running the show.

Uhmm you know the Boston Tea Party was about a tax cut the British wanted.

they call state estate taxes death taxdes

Source please...

If I transfer large quantities of wealth long before I die that is covered by GIFT TAXES

Yep, exactly like I said. Read posts before you hit reply.

your party wants the death tax to take 55% of every dollar over 1 million

Yep, as do I.

why should only the rich be hit with this tax? when they already pay so much more federal taxes than others

Actually it's the opposite. The super rich- folks passing on $5 million estates and whatnot- pay much lower taxes than working people do. As you know and as I constantly prove to you over and over and as you continue to pretend you didn't know just to irritate me.

Did the House vote on this or are you talking about the Senate vote? Remember taxation/budget crap must start in the House thus the Senate vote won't pass Constitutional muster...

Right the GOP controlled House is opposed to continuing the middle class tax cuts, thanks for the reminder.

pandering to the masses?

is this what we now call "representing the interests of the majority"?

Yeah those pandering Dems proposing the means to a better economy and a stronger middle class, shameful I tells ya, shameful!
I'm sure that the far right would prefer to think that the working class should be more than happy to keep getting kicked in the head as they have under the last 30 years of trickle down economics and financial deregulation.

I meant 25% of your after tax income, but you are right, if saving is your "thing" be my guest...but
Why do the words "You can't take it with ya" keep popping into my head?
No one is taking your money anyway, you have an agreement with the Govt. as a citizen. putting a lien on some of your income and your estate when the time comes. So it's not technically all your money with that lien on it

Are you saying that the Bush tax cuts did not take millions of people off the tax rolls altogether? Are you saying that the rates were only lowered on the top bracket?

Statists???? You believe in the necessity of a state Turtle. Or have you converted to anarchy in the last few days and kept it a secret from your right wing brethren?

Warren Buffet could buy and sell everybody on this site including you and I many many times over. He neither needs the Democrats nor the Republicans nor the tri-corned whacko contingent. He certainly sees no threat from you or anybody else that far down on the economic food chain.

Your "I believe in free choice" line is silly and ridiculous. The laws of the land are not a matter of free choice ---- unless of course your free choice is to emigrate elsewhere where those laws are more to your approval.

"Love of wasteful government"!?!?!?!?! That is absurd, moronic and stupid beyond any standard. I support NO waste of the money of the people by government.

As to you telling me to stop kissing "dem asses" - Sorry, I know nothing about kissing ass. Perhaps you could write a few thousand words about your own intimate knowledge of such activities?

Again, you seem to be impotent to discuss what people actually say and instead prefer to pervert beyond all recognition their statements into some frankenstein monster version and then attack that. That is NOT debate. It is simple and utter nonsense.

lack of logic say such as constantly screaming WAIT FOR NOVEMBER or pretending to speak for the masses about ALLOWING the wealthy to keep what they earn. one day the rich are going to realize its time to unite against the parasitic yappers and use their collective wealth to squash the fleas

get help, Dude, get help.....

odd didnt treasury do the math and show in direct costs 85% of the cost for the tax cut went to lower to upper middle class.plus a 4 % shift in effect rate vs a the rate almost being cut in half for the middle class doesnt add up to the math your sites shown in anyway.

Two different things. This does not refute the fact that the wealthy received the biggest benefits from the Bush tax cuts. See the studies referenced above.

what history books do you get that crap from?

Probably these ones that might be released to the nation...
How Texas Inflicts Bad Textbooks on Us by Gail Collins | The New York Review of Books
Not satisfied with U.S. history, some conservatives are rewriting it | McClatchy
SBOE Conservatives Rewrite American History Books — Social Studies Standards Debate | The Texas Tribune
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/13/education/13texas.html

Excerpts from these "history books":
"Little known to most voters, though, Roosevelt and his closest economic advisers (Raymond Moley, Rexford Tugwell) had been influenced by the socialist-leaning doctrines of a controversial European economist named John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946). During his first months in office – known as the Hundred Days after the brief second French dictatorship of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) – Roosevelt enacted a dizzying series of policies designed to centralize economic power in the hands of Ivy League-educated bureaucrats in Washington."

"The first of these New Deal laws, the Emergency Banking Act, was approved in two days by a docile Democratic Congress (the vote in the Senate was 73-7) without reading the actual wording of the legislation. The Banking Act gave FDR and the Democrats unprecedented and potentially dangerous control over the national supply of credit and led to the abandonment of the Gold Standard later in 1933. Many economists, including Nobel Prize laureate Milton Friedman (1912-2006), now believe that FDR's risky decision to no longer support the American dollar with gold caused the suffering from double-digit unemployment to continue until World War II (1939-1945)."

"Part of the genius of America -- which many leading thinkers believe is derived from the nation's Christian faith -- is that at times of peril ordinary men (and, someday, maybe ordinary women) step forward to achieve historical greatness. Consider a failed one-term congressman and railroad attorney named Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) or an obscure professor of history at the University of West Georgia named Newt Gingrich (1943- ). So it was in Wheeling, W. Va., on a blustery winter evening in February 1950 when a first-term Wisconsin senator named Joseph McCarthy (1908-1957) aroused a complacent America to confront the security threat from Ivy League-educated Soviet spies who had infiltrated the State Department and the presidency of Harry Truman (1884-1972)."

those who generally support the death taxes are those upset they didn't have industrious parents.

the rich pay the highest taxes possible on like income

why does someone who claims to be a lawyer lie about the law such much

and why do the parasite support team members constantly talk about the super rich when their dem masters' plans are really most pernicious to those making several hundred K to a few million a year

given the top 10% pay 70% of the taxes relevant to the "Bush tax cuts" how could it possibly be otherwise?
