People say they're moving to Canada because of Obamacare

Yes well I'm not sure that makes a lot of sense, but I can understand the general reaction that their government forcing them to buy a private company's over-priced service would be unsettling. And also the fact that this precedent establishes that direct taxes not based on population are no longer unconstitutional... Can't really blame people for not feeling welcome in their own country in the wake of this sort of thing.

Sometimes I don't know who is dumber... the average American or the average tree stump.

I can understand the frustration....but if they think they won't find socialized health care in Canada, I'd love to be a fly on the wall when they get there!

GREAT...they can pay for universal health care there...lol NOTHING is free

Opting not to be insured AND not to receive any medical attention, even in the event of need... is free.

Idiocy knows no bounds, I suppose.

And they will want their Social Security checks forwarded to them! ;)

I don't know which is funnier, those who make the meaningless, empty threat or those who attempt to spin/defend it! IF they truly believe in gun ownership, little if any government, and the chance to carve out a new nation like the much worshiped founding fathers/texicans/'49ers then go to Mexico, take over the border area and establish a New World Holy Land where real men and women live free of the yoke called Big Government. Live and Die by the code given unto them from Gawd Himself!

Instead they want to cross the border taking over the spots abandoned by the draft dodgers of years gone by. For all the 'conservatives' routinely attack liberals as surrender monkeys on some issues they seem to be very good at cut and run themselves. Maybe once they realize what they are saying, they will settle down and go back to supporting the wildly inaccurate over the top attacks on every thing Obama and rant about revolution and the blood of tyrants... substituting one empty threat for another...

to the accompaniment of the spin miesters and apologists... :peace

Man...if I could create a little island where people who go "If [X] happens I'm leaving the country!" could go, and charge them to get there, I'd be rich.

Then I'd put that **** on PPV because you'd have so many extremely partisan idiots on both sides of the aisle that it'd be one giant melee

Moved to News 2.0. This is exactly the kind of thing News 2.0 is here for.

Should we tell them or are we looking the other way on this one?

While the people of Quebec are certainly a little...off...I wouldn't feel right subjecting Canada to our hyperbolic hacksters.

I'm fed up with Pubs and Rugby and overcast rainy days, so I'm moving to Great Britain.

Not to mention fish and chips and those damned English programs on PBS!

I say let them leave...the only punishment is telling them they cant come back when they start begging realizing just how good it is here.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

um..Canadians pay higher taxes, do they not?

Canadian Income Tax at 30K:

And from the IRS website for the same amount:
Based on your responses, your anticipated income tax for 2012 is $2,606. If you do not change your current withholding arrangement, you will have $0 withheld for 2012, leaving $2,606 due when you file your return. To meet your anticipated tax of $2,606, change your current withholding arrangement by claiming 0 allowances plus an additional amount of $879 for the balance of 2012. Here’s how:

Edit: Am not sure whether either calculation includes additional taxes (i.e. FICA, SS, whatever in the U.S.) or if it's straight income tax.

Did you say that about the nam traitors that ran to canada too :) I have a whole other way of describing them...but it would be an insta ban...so ill be a good boy :)

Albertans get free healthcare. I think they're the only ones.

Well, no one in Canada gets "free" health care... It's part of taxes.

You used to have to pay for government health care previously, a certain rate per person in the family.

Another misconception of health care in Canada is that it's run kinda like if you had plumbing insurance, where if anything goes wrong you can get put on the list to have your issue dealt with In the order based in the priority of your problem. However, you have to pay for tools an supplies, and any "medication", but you can get private insurance beyond that...

Ambulance runs about 250$ plus any medication / supplies used on the trip To the hospital.

Another time I had stitches, had to pay 75$ for the actual stitches and needles used, the sling and bandages. (bill would have been 300$ uninsured).

That's odd to me. I got 6 stitches at a local clinic w/o insurance for $90.
