Is the GOP ready for its own gay candidate? | Power Players - Yahoo! News

Richard Tisei is running for Congress with an unusual resume. He's a Republican from Massachusetts who is pro-choice, openly gay, and in favor of gay marriage. And yet despite running diametrically opposed to where most of the party is on social issues, Tisei is considered by top Republicans to be one of the top GOP candidates challenging incumbents this election

It's about damn time.

I don't get it.

It's like the Aryan Brotherhood running a guy named Rosenberg to show how open minded they are. There really are such thins as self-loathing people. Clarence Thomas is my favorite example.

I'm pretty sure there have been lots of gay Republicans. They often break from the party line on social issues, but that's to be expected given the fact that the party line socially is contradictory to the party line economically and politically. That contradictory nature is why the party line is ass backwards on most social issues.

Old news.

Retired California political consultant Fred Karger will be in DC today to file his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission officially declaring his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. It will make him the first openly gay Republican ever to run for president as well as the first GOP candidate to declare officially that he is running for the 2012 race. Karger has already made many swings through Iowa and New Hampshire, laying the groundwork for his campaign in those key primary states. He's run TV ads and met with dozens of young Republican activists to rally the troops. Today's FEC filing simply makes his candidacy official. It also, no doubt, will make it harder for Republicans to keep him out of candidate forums and debates during the campaign, which some have been trying to do

Then that would make the OPs guy the first viable openly gay GOP candidate for a federal government seat. No one even seen this Karger guy during the primaries. Not very viable if he isn't even known about.

Someone's sexual preference has no influence on my vote either way.

Looked at his site, not horrible stances on the issues but a Mass Republican is really just a Blue Dog Democrat (Scott Brown anyone). I'd have to look at his voting record. But, miles better than the Congressman that Massachusetts has right now. Lots of money in the North Shore but doubt he has a chance.

Whats funny, he publicly announced that he was gay before Baker selected him as his running mate in the 2010 gubernatorial race. So guess it was "about damn time" back in 2010!

Gay lesbian or whatever, all I care about is their politics, however I am against gay mirage in the institution between a man and a woman. I am for gay mirage for them to start their own institution which would only be between a man and a man or woman and a woman, let them create their own institution. But leave the institution as we know it between a man and a woman alone. Call it the "gay institution of mirage" or whatever.

You don't control "marriage", stop using the force of government to tread on me, I was "born free" too.
