St. Louis Cops Worry That In-Car Cameras 'Are Being Used Against Them'

Ain't accountability a bitch?

If theyre doing their job in car cameras are a plus...cameras also record when your doing it right...

Ain't accountability a bitch?

They should have started with the cameras long before now.... You'd think a city like St. Louis would have been able to afford such things...........

It has gotten me "talked to" a time or two, mostly due to my use of profanity when talking to another officer about unrelated topics while back in my police vehicle on a traffic stop... I am told a defense attorney can use it to "make me look bad"...I am told this by a Sergeant who hasn't had to be in court in the past decade, and has no clue that the judges have little to no tolerance for attorneys playing 10 minutes of video that is not related to the case before them, but he still has a point, and I claim to try to watch what I say.

Other than that, I've enjoyed great success with my camera. It has obtained many a conviction for me in court on various cases (Mostly DWI, but a Felony Drug poss as well), and has even allowed my supervisors to clear me of complaints filed against me which turned out to be lies (aren't they usually?)

My son in law made a traffic stop...wrote a summons for reckless driving...two days later he gets called to the chiefs office and was told that the woman is claiming during the stop you reached in her window and fondled her breast and when she rebuffed you ...you gave her a reckless driving ticket...but forget it...your camera doesnt lie...

I was surprised that St. Louis has only recently got them as well.

I have heard that judges have little patience for people who hire an attorney for traffic court in general, but I have only heard that, I have no first-hand experience.

To be honest, outside of DWI/Reckless Driving and other more serious traffic misdemeanors........ Attorneys often have little patience for people who hire them to try a speeding infraction (Like, for example, 50mph in a 35mph zone) and refuse to take the "Driving Class" deal through the DA, the ones that demand a trial is what I mean.

They are acting as agents of the govt when they're on duty.
So, it doesn't seem like it's wrong for them to be recorded. I mean as long as they're not doing undercover work or something of that nature.
As long as it only when they're working and they're not doing some sensitive thing like working undercover, it sounds like a good thing.

I have been glad to have logs of my actions before. They can really simplify things.
