Adam Yauch, aka MCA, has died after a battle with cancer at age 47. The sad news was broken by longtime friend Russell Simmons, who was the mentor and first manager of the rap-rock trio and whose Def Jam label launched their 1984 breakthrough album, Licensed to Ill.

The Beastie Boys were New York's Jewish kings of rap music, and their flavor forever changed the hard rock subgenre of hip hop.

This sucks. Listened to a lot of there older music. Especially back when they were still a punk band. He will be missed.
 
Had no idea. How sad. True innovators of hip-hop and rock. Classic 90's band and a staple of my adolescence. RIP MCA, love ya man.
