Jay Carney said he never lies in his capacity as White House press secretary at a Friday scholarship lunch hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association:
JAY CARNEY: So I don’t have these moments of crisis very much. Credibility’s enormously important for press secretaries. All of the predecessors, my living predecessors, I spoke with all of them before I took this job. I knew all of them, already. Whether they served a Republican president or a Democratic one, they all talked about the need to maintain your credibility. Which means, when I go and stand up in front of the podium, in front of the White House press corps, I never lie. I never say something that I know is not true. That means when I don’t know the answer to something, I say I don’t know and I’ll take that question, that means that when I—which is often the case, I know more than I can say—I answer it in a way that is truthful without obviously betraying the things that I can’t say for national security reasons or other reasons. But that’s—it’s a fundamental principle of doing the job that, for the folks who cover a president, they have to have some faith–substantial faith—that while they know I can’t say everything, and those who work for the president can’t say everything, what we are saying is true.

Even Sam Stein of the Huffington Post concedes that Obama has been campaiging for months. I'd say that Carney's insistence that all of Obama's campaign events have really been routine Presidential business has pretty much blown his credibility.

Heck, even the atmosphere that he describes his job as in the OP is a textbook example of "lie of omission" .... And telling that of the views, this thread only got one response. Ah well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the hypocrisy anymore.

Obama in 2008 was right... "They must think you're stupid". Not only is that what they think... that's what they KNOW with statements like this from Carney. Of course, the argument could be made: If he actually BELIEVES what he says is truth, is he still lying?

Dissembling isn't lying per se. It all depends on what "is" is.

The bigger the office, the bigger the target. We all know all incumbants start campaigning earlier thanis reported. However, not every incumbant is as well known or high profile as the President of the United States.

I wasn't aware that Paul Ryan was the head of a branch of government? Or that he speaks for an entire branch? Jay Carney is tasked with speaking for the POTUS in the daily briefing, and when we know, and can document, if not outright lies, then at the very least subterfuge, and fibs, then credibility is no longer in that purview of his.

Remember Ari Fleisher? or Scott McClellan? Liberals were merciless with them. Now all the sudden Carney is what? 'Off Limits'?

Stein hammered Obama on it? I must have missed it. Past incumbents have been held to paying for their campaigning by an investgative, curious press. Obama once again is getting a pass. It's hard to understand his reluctance to pay since he's already held 30 more fundraisers than his five predecessors combined. That's right, Barry's already held 124 fundraisers. Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton and Bush Jr. held a combined 94. You know how many fundraisers Reagan held in 1984? Zero. This is what Chicago politics looks like in the White House. EVERYTHING is for sale.
************************************************************************************************
Doherty, who has compiled statistics about presidential travel and fundraising going back to President Jimmy Carter in 1977, found that Obama had held 104 fundraisers by March 6th this year, compared to 94 held by Presidents Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush Snr, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush combined.

Since then, Obama has held another 20 fundraisers, bringing his total to 124. Carter held four re-election fundraisers in 1980, Reagan zero in 1984, Bush Snr 19 in 1992, Clinton 14 in 1996 and Bush Jnr 57 in 2004.
Obama has held more fundraisers than previous five Presidents combined as he visits key swing states on 'permanent campaign' | Mail Online

all Presidential speeches during campaign time, will count as "campaign" speeches by their enemies.

The Libbos made a bog deal out of Bush's speeches, too.

And what were your thoughts when Ari Fleisher was lying? Also, how did you feel about the liberals mercilessly attacking him?

I guess technically he is correct. Pathological liars never 'lie'...from their perspective.

So you feel it is your duty to do the same ??? You don't have a lot to do with your time do you?
