Santorum Signs 3-Year Old Daughter Up For NRA Membership

I think it's silly. I think it's stupid. I think it actually harms the purpose of the organization, in a minor way. It harms because it clues people in that many of the members on paper are not necessarily active and passionate about the cause, but just "paper members", which weakens the image of any organization, IMO. Other than that, which I admit is minor, it is also more or less harmless.

Having said that, I'd prefer that people who belong to organizations actually be thinking reasoning adults who honestly believe in the cause. Plus, if his daughter does grow up and wants to join, she should get the satisfaction of joining on her own, not because mommy and/or daddy did it for her when she was too young to even give a rat's arse.

At first, I was wondering if this was legit. Kind of funny at first. But seriously, what's wrong with Santorum? I knew he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but signing up your child for an NRA membership?

Oh well, not my kid and not my problem.

I dont really care that he did it other than the fact that the guy can't take a ****ing break from whoring around. What is he even selling now? He reminds me of Wimp Lo from Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. I would shoot myself in the foot to hear him mutter, "I'm bleeding making me the victor."

Fair question. Well except he's still a Senator.

Rick Santorum is still a senator, really? Someone probably needs to tell him that. :3oops: :lamo:

Poor kid is going to get gun-related junk mail for life and didn't even get to have a say in it.

Well I've been forced to participate in social security for life, and didn't get a say in that.

I can't believe this story was worth six pages of commentary.....

I can't see why any one would even care about this. No one is harmed by her having a membership.

For the record: I do not like guns but do love the constitution so understand that guns are part of our society.

I see your point, but this is a three year old. She doesn't need gun training and shouldn't be touching a gun at her age. This is just taking extreme measures to appeal to gun owners and gun enthusiasts.

Sarah Palin has to be kicking herself for not thinking of this little publicity stunt.

I don't have any particular problem with guns (i.e. I have no particular interest in owning one, but couldn't care less if others do, within reason), but I think it's ridiculous to sign up a 3 year old for a lifetime membership in any organization. If she wants to make that decision on her own, more power to her, but she's not old enough to do that yet.

So it's... wrong to make a joke about a "dying child" but it's perfectly fine to pimp out your dying child to the cameras?

You're going to need to catch me up to speed. I've never seen a photo of Bella Santorum, so please link me up. All I know is that her father gave a speech to the NRA over the weekend and said that he'd signed her up for a lifetime NRA membership.

But in any event, it's not cool to joke about dying kids. Don't care who you are or what your deal is; it's wrong. Be smart and fair for a change.

Who gives a ****.... Whoopdy ****in doo.

Boyscouts had me shooting shotguns and rifles at the age of 10ish.

ZOMG BOYSCOUTS!!!! BOOOOO!! BOOOOOOO!!!

The girl has a syndrome that leads to defects, degenerative illnesses, and likely mental retardation. She's living on borrowed time, as most children with her genetic syndrome don't live to reach 18.

Yeah, it's probably pandering to some people. It's kind of dumb.

But it could also be a family making an attempt to build memories with a little girl they know is going to die. Kind of like families who have their army-loving child inducted into the forces symbolically because he's dying from stage 5 cancer. Santorum dropped out of this race while his daughter was sick in the hospital, and I'm sure a large part of his dropping out had to do with her illness.

Kiss-ass vote seeker or not, I really don't care. I just feel heartbreak and pain for the loss they're facing in the near future.

It's a life time membership... I'd be mad at my parents for doing something like that to me.

I don't think this is big deal or something to be angry about, but can anybody explain some practical reason for him doing this??? And I mean practical in the sense that it serves some benefit other than political pandering... I don't get it, is something entirely over my head right now?

That's basically my issue. Also that it's stupid.

It's definitely pandering. I'm sure his daughter will be thrilled that dad got her that NRA membership before she died, instead of donating a sizable chunk of change to whoever is trying to find a cure for whatever it is she's got.

You know that we wouldn't even have the first clue where to begin researching a way to cure a trisomy disorder? It's not like she's got one bad gene we can just turn off-- she's got an entire extra chromosome. That's why there's only a handful of named trisomy disorders; it's not that they're the only ones that occur regularly, it's that they're the only ones the child survives long enough to be born with.

Yes you're right. A 3 year old disabled girls needs a gun. Like a fish needs a bicycle.

My 11 y/o disabled daughter knows how to handle a firearm.

If more people knew basic firearm safety there would be fewer accidental shootings.

Ultimately, though, it's not up to you what Santorum teaches his kids about guns.

I doubt $35 is going to cure whatever it is she's got.

Anybody who's trying to cure a trisomy best be the geneticist equivalent of Hawking, Einstein and Newton combined. Basically the only reasonable
approach is to manage as best one can the varied spectrum of physical malformations associated with it (which means donating to **** load of different charities and researchers not necessarily tied to the condition to feel like you made a difference).

so kids who cannot vote shouldn't be wearing Obama t-shirts or having Obama stickers on their cars?
