Santorum Signs 3-Year Old Daughter Up For NRA Membership

How is he pandering to the voters when he DROPPED OUT OF THE RACE?

He's a politician, while he's out of the current Presidential primary race there will always be more elections in the future and its never too early to start building up your supporters. Maybe if Romney loses, maybe Santorum will be back in action for 2016, maybe he'll want to run for Senate again or Governor.

There's a lot of maybes there, but one thing that he can't afford to do which is fade out of the lime light too, he's got to stay fresh and current with his base and potential supporters.

She's a couple years younger than I was when my uncles started teaching me to shoot. I don't see what purpose an NRA membership serves-- he's already fully capable of taking her to events-- but it's a fine gift nonetheless.

I would have waited until my own children were older to buy them a membership, but only because they wouldn't appreciate it until they were older.

Bella is not going to grow much older; she has a terminal condition known as trisomy 18.

... did he do this while cameras were around? There's your sign.

It's stupid not because its a 3 year old becoming a member of the NRA, its stupid not because a father would do this with his daughter, it's stupid because a father uses his daughter to pander to voters and potential supporters.

Voters of what? He's already dropped out.

Thank you both. There's nothing funny about a dying kid.

So it's... wrong to make a joke about a "dying child" but it's perfectly fine to pimp out your dying child to the cameras?

well, to a guy who loathes guns, I guess it would be wrong on many levels.

i don't hold such a hatred of guns ( the opposite in fact), so i don't really care what membership he paid for or for whom he paid it for.... it's a non-issue.

if ya loathe guns... don't sign up for a membership with the NRA...not much left to say on the matter.

But he corrupted his daughter with an NRA membership, and she'll never be the same. She'll never again know what it's like to be that little girl without an NRA membership, and so she'll need lots of counseling and bi-polar medication, and she'll probably turn to alcohol by the time she's five years old. And we just have to stop this NRA indoctrination of our children, because it's like the holocaust and killing joos and stuff.

I wonder if this would have registered for either side had she not been disabled.

Oh I don't know.

No wonder I have never heard of that guy. He kinda sucks. Some one should tell him comedy is supposed to be funny.

What Santorum did is nothing more than a political statement. Does the child understand politics and what the 2nd Amendment is all about? Of course not. She is only 3 years old. Who is to say what her beliefs are going to be when she is 18? For anybody who has raised kids, you understand that, once they reach a certain age, they pretty much have their own mind, and sometimes it is quite different than what you intend. Take me for instance. When I was younger, my dad told me that I was going to grow up to be one hell of a bass player. Actually, what he told me was "If I hear that damn thing one more time, I'm going to send your ass straight to hell". He was joking of course, but he wanted me to do other things than play music. Rarely is a kid a chip off the old block. And, once Santorum's daughter is grown, if she joins a group that wants gun control, I am going to laugh my ass off.

Remember Kiddies, it's only indoctrination when Liberals do it!

JK. Poor girl. All that spam mail.

No accounting for good taste. Or bad. I think he is funny as hell.

So the man is indoctrinating his own child? The state mustn't let that happen, oh my!!

And if she doesn't what will you do then?

Enrolling a baby in the gun club? I'm willing to bet it would have been a huge story either way.

The fact that she's disabled and won't live to see adulthood isn't going to be a factor in most peoples' opinion, in my estimation-- from my perspective, the only thing that changes is that the gesture no longer has any value outside of political posturing. She's simply not going to live long enough to benefit from her NRA membership, which I would otherwise consider a fine gift for a child growing up in an armed household.

Poor kid is going to get gun-related junk mail for life and didn't even get to have a say in it.

If you really want to keep her mailbox full enroll her into AARP too.

For a 3 year old, you'd think that a membership in the "I used the potty all by myself club" would be more useful.

I guess that doesn't have the political cachet in the Republican party though.
