Santorum Signs 3-Year Old Daughter Up For NRA Membership

so kids who cannot vote shouldn't be wearing Obama t-shirts or having Obama stickers on their cars?

Well, there is that.

Used to be that the phrase was "teaching your children in the way they should grow." Nowadays, I guess the term is "indoctrination."

Who are YOU to "brainwash" your kids into thinking one way or another when, hey, morality is "subjective"?

Who the heck do you think you are trying to pass on your values to your offspring? You're indoctrinating them.

I bought my son an NRA life Membership at a gun show when he was maybe 6 or 7-he was already shooting. I bought him an NFAA archery life membership about that time too. He's won over 50 archery tournaments and beat 45 adults at AGE 11 to win the "steel shooting" club championship (five steel boar targets at 15 yards with a 22 pistol-fastest time wins) He also regularly beats 2/3 to 3/4 of the adults in a centerfire handgun league at the local range. Some gun clubs require NRA membership and one of ours does for insurance reasons (NRA insures 100% membership ranges)

I can't see why any one would even care about this. No one is harmed by her having a membership.
Me either. If the kid is going to be around guns though, it is best to start teaching gun safety young. I doubt there is anywhere or anyplace better suited to just than purpose that the NRA. Though I'd bet they probably will wait a few more years for that! At least I hope so.....

For the record: I do not like guns but do love the constitution so understand that guns are part of our society.
Good, because your avatar is carrying one.;)

I don't think this is big deal or something to be angry about, but can anybody explain some practical reason for him doing this??? And I mean practical in the sense that it serves some benefit other than political pandering... I don't get it, is something entirely over my head right now?

Its easy to explain

if you support the NRA you want it to have more money and more members. The more Members the NRA has, the more clout it has. I was at a gun show once and the NRA table was next to me. I told people anyone who bought a gun from the dealer I was representing (as his counsel in business law matters) I'd buy them an NRA membership. So I gave the NRA 500 dollars and they got 20 more members which was helpful in the 1988 Elections.

When My son is older if he were to suffer severe brain damage and became anti gun he'd certainly would have the right to resign his life membership. Right now he's happy getting the kid's NRA membership magazine and the fact he can enter some NRA competitions

I have a friend who bought all of his children a lifetime membership at birth, big deal. Buying lifetime memberships for children is quite common and encouraged in the NRA. Much ado over nothing.

well, to a guy who loathes guns, I guess it would be wrong on many levels.

i don't hold such a hatred of guns ( the opposite in fact), so i don't really care what membership he paid for or for whom he paid it for.... it's a non-issue.

if ya loathe guns... don't sign up for a membership with the NRA...not much left to say on the matter.

Same. I was raised around firearms for as long as I can remember. I don't see anything wrong with this at all.

Dude, that's pretty awesome.

Dude, that's pretty awesome.

I tell people who ask me why I spend at least a couple hours a week training my kid in gun safety, shooting skills etc. Its because I am not around him 24-7 and he may be in an environment where there are guns and untrained people. He knows damn well to clear an auto you FIRST REMOVE THE MAGAZINE, RACK THE SLIDE BACK and VISUALLY INSPECT the barrel

He also knows that the cylinder on some brands of revolvers turn CLOCKWISE while others turn the opposite way so if there is one bullet in the cylinder that weapon MAY BE READY to fire!

he also knows that there is no such thing as a real safety and only a gun he has personally cleared and emptied is safe as long as he remains in control of it

every other weapon is dangerous
