NIghtline Reporting up to a dozen Secret Service Agents sent home

They were there to secure the space for the POTUS' visit. And, yes, it should be a problem no matter who they bring into that protected space.

There isn't enough information on the layout and what parts of it were sealed off or what parts were still open to the public, so I can't really comment any further at this time. If they really did bring in unauthorized persons into the secured areas, I'm sure they'll be disciplined accordingly.

This did not place Obama in danger and there were military personnel poking around as well. This situation sucks for these guys....

the U.S. military said five service members may also have participated in the alleged misconduct.

The 11 Secret Service agents accused of soliciting prostitutes were put on leave and Obama offered regret over the incident overshadowing his diplomatic mission to Latin America.

The military service members were confined to their quarters in Colombia and ordered not to have contact with others.

All the alleged activities took place before Obama arrived Friday in this Colombian port city for meetings with 33 other regional leaders.

Put together, the allegations were an embarrassment for an American president on foreign soil and threatened to upend White House efforts to keep his trip focused squarely on boosting economic ties with fast-growing Latin America. Obama was holding two days of meetings at the Summit of the Americas with leaders from across the vast region before heading back to Washington Sunday night.

damn, those 12 guys are thorough

Just wait till they pull into that driveway of their homes and their wives are waiting for them to come into the house....
Do they even go into their house or do they simple leave their housekey on the doormat and go to their new digs at Motel 8.

Would I be guilty of overstating the obvious were I to remind you that there are some perfectly agreeable gentlemen who would be quite willing to offer their services gratis?

Also, these agents were sent to Columbia AHEAD of Obama's appearance there. They were not the ones directly responsible for safety. This occurred when the president was thousands of miles away.

Yeah, this agent didn't want to pay the $47 because he thought he was so good, she should be paying him. Then again, what can you get for $47? She must have been so ugly, of course he didn't want to pay after he sobered up.

Maybe they thought spreading democracy meant..........

She may have been, but you can't judge it by that dollar amount--the dollar goes a long way in countries in that part of the world, so that 47 dollars may be quite a lot of money. I know that is the case in Ecuador and Panama, because I have visited both of those countries (that are next to Columbia).

My first instinct is to say, if I was forced to guard that little turds life I would need stress relief too but the reality is these guys are supposed to be professionals and this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable.

From new info, it appears that the prostitute's fee was not in question. Instead, the hotel staff noticed that one of the guys had an additional guest to which he owed $47. That was the whole thing that got the police involved.

Details are still emerging, but the behavior of the agents initially attracted attention during a dispute at the Hotel Caribe over payment for an extra "guest."

According to a senior law enforcement official, an employee approached at least one Secret Service agent and demanded that he pay extra money for having an additional overnight guest in his room.

The agent balked, which eventually resulted in a confrontation and forced diplomatic intervention.

The official said the guest involved apparently was a prostitute.

Ah, well, disciplinary action would be in order for that agent-- their rooms are expensed, so if he was unwilling to pay the extra fee out of his own pocket, he's either responsible for trying to expense whores, or for trying to cheat local businesses. Bad diplomacy.

So the language has moved on to calling the president something other than human...

Bucking a trend, President Obama stated he wouldn't pronounce judgement til the investigation was complete. It is unknown at this time if any of the accused agents look like they would have been his sons.

I figure the supervisors of these agents, probably weren't dallying with prostitutes, but since they were the supervisors, their careers are on the line as well. Then again, if the guy is off duty, how is the supervisor supposed to know what his agents are doing on their own free time?

Guess they didn't take the annual Trafficing in Human Beings course that is forced down the throats of all Navy civilians and military. If they had, they wouldn't have been caught in such a compromising position.

Actually...if they had just paid the prostitutes in a timely manner it wouldnt have come to light.

i dont condone it and can honestly say I never engaged in it...but seriously...the amount of hay being made over this is just plain goofy. Its not like this stuff hasnt gone on forever. Plain fact of the matter is that most of the politicians feigning outrage and calling for congressional hearings are doing this as a dig at Obama

Not by me. I am always respectful. He is the Welfare president. He is the Food Stamp president. He is the one term president. He is the flexible president. And he is the Marxist president. No matter what he is always the president.

There are no grounds upon which to "discipline" them, and certainly none for them to be subject to any penalties beyond loss of employment.

There are DEFINITELY grounds for discipline. It is called Conduct Unbecoming and it applies to *ALL* Federal Special Agents, which is exactly what the Secret Service falls under. They are a very special category of Federal Agent, and they do not have to break a law to be disciplined by their Director.

The problem here, is the head of Secret Service himself. He's too lax on protocol and his level of discipline has been called into question on more than one occasion. His attitude (overall) has rubbed off onto those who serve under him, and he needs to go - plain and simple.

Treasury used to run the op and ever since it was moved under Homeland, there's been leadership and continuity issues. L&C should never become an issue for such operational detail. Time for a serious reassessment and realignment. We are talking about the President, here - any President, Left or Right - it does not matter. There op is to seal the President off from any and all danger - period. Anything, and I mean anything at all, that subjects that op to compromises of any kind whatsoever, must be removed - period.

There are no questions after - period.
