Gingrich Slams Obama for Koran Apology

Perhaps I am naive, but I find it rather ignorant to believe I have a better understanding of the complexities involved in our worldwide dealings than the man (and his advisers), we have charged with representing our collective interests overseas. For Mr. Gingrich to criticize these dealings is to me the very example of ignorant thought I would use to disqualify him from ever holding the office he is debasing.

It would seem we have fallen into a pattern in our politics which I see as detrimental to progress...Rather than put energy into solving our many problems, we instead attack those who are actually trying, in an attempt to get into the very position of power to fix stuff...then expecting the "Other Side" to play nice and turn the other cheek.

Anyone remember Gingrich vs. Clinton...Followed by Gingrich vs. Everyone else?

Well eventually we should leave if the Afghans don't want us. Wasn't the whole point of the exercise to build a stable state in Afghanistan?

From Wiki, our stated goal was "dismantling the al-Qaeda terrorist organization and ending its use of Afghanistan as a base. The United States also said that it would remove the Taliban regime from power and create a viable democratic state."

Anyone that thinks we will "Leave a stable Afghanistan"...might take a look at History, both ancient and recent. Then scratch their heads in wonder, at why we ever thought we would be different.

"The story of Afghanistan is in so many ways a very tragic one. Afghanistan is one of the most impoverished nations of the world. It is one of the most war-torn, most ravaged, and most beleaguered of nations. It is a nation that has been beset by invasion, external pressure and internal upheaval since before the time of Alexander the Great. Its people are a people who have endured more than most of us can ever imagine. In fact, for many Afghanis, all that has changed in the last one thousand years are the weapons which have been used against so many of them. It is therefore with great sadness and respect that I tell the story of Afghanistan."

What a depressing history book. Those people need to be more cheerful. No wonder they're all out suicide bombing each other.

well, for once, i actually agree with Newt.
the President should have backed up the military in their actions.... their actions were not wrong or incorrect.
the President should have explained why the actions were not correct instead of immediately going for the apology.

an apology is tantamount to an admission of guilt.. and i'm sorry, but burning those korans was not wrong...
the prisoners had already defiled those holy books ..this is something the president should have stated clearly and unequivocally.... he instead took the road of apologizing for our boys actions that were not wrong.

I totally agree. If anyone should apologize it should be the nut jobs religious extremist wackos out there rioting and killing people over burnt pieces of paper and the terrorist sympathizers turning this mole hill into a mountain. The elected officials represents their constituents ,so when the president apologizes it is the same as forcing the American people to apologize.

I guess Newt never saw a Disney movie. The Bad Guy is just misunderstood and all you need to do is apologize to them and extend the olive branch, then you can go solve mysteries together in Missouri.

The extremist culture in the Middle East view apologies as a sign of weakness. Since I know we're all for respecting other cultures, we should respect theirs and ignore their request for apology and instead demand an apology for them killing thousands of our people.

Just for fun, let's see anyone from America demand an apology, anyone who thinks an apology was warranted can hold their breath until we get that apology we demanded.

Newt would find his politics way more acceptable in an Islamic nation.

What exactly is the harm of apologizing? The Middle East thinks we are weak? Please.

What is the potential benefit of apologizing? Points to the US for anybody whose opinions we care about.

A Has-Been Blowhard makes ignorant criticism of our President.

And the far-rights applaud.

Way to go GOP!!

Take the party of Lincoln all the way to hell...

Moderate?? You still call yourself a moderate? LOL :lamo

This whole attack by the right on Obama apologizing for the burning of the Korans is so weak....every time the drag someone on TV to criticize an apology is an akward experience and the charge that it in anyway makes the situation worse falls flat.

I wasn't aware this was a popularity contest. I was under the impression we had a job to do... you know.... like strategic objectives and stuff.

Shows how much you know. We are in Afghanistan to win the "hearts and minds" of the Afghan people, just like GW's little escapade in Iraq. We all know how well that worked out in Iraq, it appears we won't do much better in Afghanistan. So much for the Neo-cons plan of putting "friendly Democracys" in the heart of the middle east. You didn't believe them either I hope.
We need to withdraw our troops and leave a Drone base or 2 so we can keep pummeling Alqeada and the Taliban. Putting our troops in that region as policemen was always just NUTS. Why would we put targets in place for all those disgruntled a-holes to pick off?

Why do you want more troops to die?

Why do you want more troops to die?

Why aren't they rioting and killing folks cause the korans in question were used scribbled upon etc to pass extremist measures? They desecrated thier own korans, and obama wants to hold troops responsible for burning that ****?

Devoutly religious people get angry when you burn their holy book. People already upset about a foreign army occupying their country.

But they don't get upset when thier own desecrate it.......

That was an argument? Lol

I frankly can't get over the fanatical reaction to the alleged burning. Whether we apologize or not is far less concerning to me.

"I haven't observed it personally (knowing only what the media tells me), therefore it must not have happened."

Unlike you, I've served in the gulf, and have observed this phenomena personally, it is much more an issue for the kaffir to "desecrate" the koran and other things than for the "believers" too, not just in the name if jihad, but more generally...,, i liken it to booing your hometown sports team cause they are sucking it up, but if thier rivals do it? Only difference is they are trying to kill our kids over it,

Newtie gets more and more irrelevant and pathetic every time he opens his mouth.

Yes, the last few thousand years have been somewhat nasty to these people, thus an interesting perspective has been built into the culture as it evolved. The Soviets dealt with this years ago, and we think it will change because our values are different....please.

The Islamic fundamental mindset is in no way ready to compromise with western (modern) thought. We should leave this part of the world alone, let them kill each other until they come to the realizations we have , that calming the F@ck down, and paying attention to what your "GOD " was trying to say....might be a good idea.

If the United States simply stopped playing RISK over there, took the Billions and used it here, and sat back watching as this transformation took place...we would survive this mess, and likely take care of our own.
