Obama doesn't accept responsibility for gas prices

Actually I have to agree somewhat with Adpst. Oil typically takes between 5 and 10 years to come to market from a new site. Given the investment in the mid to late 2000s, it makes sense that oil is increasing partially due to pre-Obama investment.

if Adpst is going to claim present oil production is the result of Bush policies, he also needs to accept the state of the economy and high unemployment the result of Bush policy.

Regardless of who's to take credit, production is up as well as prices so to blame Obama is disingenuous.

Refreshing to see somene gets it.............

Why is it when it comes to oil and gas? Republicans suddenly become socialists, wanting the government to do something and failing to adhere to free market principals.

Drilling is up because the price (and price deck) are up. The US is generally a mature oil market, with high extraction costs. We also have vast, vast petroleum reserves tied up in shale oil; an expensive technology challenge to get at. Oil drilling only makes sense when prices are up.

The other odd thing in Republican thinking is that somehow domestic production will radically reduce gasoline costs. Sorry, but we are dealing in a world market. If companies can get more in China for gasoline than the US, that is where the gasoline goes... until the US demand curve settles on an equivalent price. The US is now an EXPORTER of gasoline. Great to drill, but the world is the beneficiary... given the growing demand for gasoline and petroleum products from emerging economies, our drilling will help the balance of payments rather than the price at the pump.

I know the Republicans are foaming at the mouth, perhaps finally settling on an issue they can hammer Obama with..... It is a good hammer, even if it is wrong.

The chance of that happening is like every zebra in captivity sprouting Pegasus wings and taking flight. Apdst will never give a Democrat credit for anything. In fact when Obama does what Adpst wants him to do, he'll try to find even the most minute failing to attack him on while completely ignoring the fact that Obama did what adpst wanted him to do.

Adpst's partisan hypocrisies aside, he is correct that oil drillings before Obama are bearing fruit.

Cry me a river, dude. LOL!!

If gas reaches $5.00 a gallon, it won't matter if the consumer puts an R, a D, a C or an L behind their own name...they'll blame Obama.

And you know this because ?????

As much as it would hurt I am actually hoping for $5.00 gas because that will guarantee obama's defeat. Better now when we can do something about it that after he's reelected when we are at his mercy another four years. God only knows what gas prices would be after four years of obama with no fear of reelection looming on the horizon.

Inconsistency in politics is nothing new and does not affect the fluctuations of oil. Well wars and embargos affect it, but that isn't what we are talking about. Oil is a world wide commodity. Off shore drilling was going to be allowed then a huge oil spill happened in deep water and they thought it was a good idea to reassess the idea of wanton deep water drilling off the coast. Now he reverses in an election year. Obama is running for re election.

Of course it does and to show how things have far more effect than one would think in a "world wide commodity". Back in oil's first run up to $145, oil would spike everytime a storm was predicted in the gulf. The likelyhood of anything actually effecting fuel was small but the "world wide" markets would still spike.

When the markets get on a run any old thing will prime the markets.

I can't cheer the struggles working folk and those just trying to start out are going to have just to see Obama defeated. No, defeat him with a good candidate and good arguements, not on the back of the lower and middle classes.

I also do not understand those who argue the struggles of the middle and lower classes not getting more upset at what this run up in oil is going to do to them.

Peoples beliefs by and large seem to be no more fundemental than the things driving the markets.

The only way Obama can DIRECTLY affect world spot prices is to manipulate US Government commodities Stock pile along with colluding with other world leaders...and a few billionaires willing to risk significant sums to drive up spot prices.

Spot prices are driven by a lot of reasons...and a lot of people on a global scale. While it may be ...and I say may be possible to manipulate world spot prices for oil...it would have to be done so with brain surgeon precision.

JMO....

Better a little pain now than alot of pain later.

If we took off the table any idea of attacking Iran, oil would fall.

I don't think so. Iran is shifting it's supplies away from Western Nations as we speak, and China, Russia, and other adversaries to te West. That alone is pushing prices up.

If we bomb Iran say a year from now...Western Nations will already be dealing with the shortage of Iranian oil. Soooooo?

Dunno, 1Perry...???

This seems to be the latest life preserver that the right wing is grasping onto. Two weeks ago it was the war on the Catholic religion. Then polls of actual Catholic voters told them there was nothing there. So now its going to be that Obama rose your gas prices.

I would ask just how stupid do you think voters are but based on past GOP campaigns we already know the answer.

The price would fall. The more Iranian oil that goes to China, the less China buys up oil from everywhere else. If that supply is cut off, China buys more on the world market driving the price of oil from other countries.

If we attack Iran, these shipments dont go out at all which means more demand on others.

What was that you were saying about not talking about bull**** trufer theories? :lamo

If you're going to reference truther theories, at least get them right. 9/11 truthers believe Bush planned and executed 9/11. That's stupid and makes no sense.

What isn't stupid is the fact that the U.S. was asleep when 9/11 occurred, in spite of several red flags.

Well, he never get's credit for the good things from the hacks so why should he take their blame for the bad?

He should probably accept some blame because he was so quick to blame the republicans during the last high price crissis during 2008.

hmmm.....would the GOP like to see the Federal government subsidize the cost of gasoline, like they do in Venezuela & Nigeria?

Election year politics, just like right now.

"My opponent is responsible for the Bubonic Plague. I, on the other hand, invented the Polio vaccine."

Neither of them deserved blame. Gas prices cannot be blamed on one person. There is a multitude of factors causing the fluctuation in gas prices. I just want to state that the Keystone Pipeline would have had no affect on our prices.

Not really Mr Christie.

History.

You should try it.
Actually if we go by history, Obama will get the blame whether he deserves it or not and lord knows he has left himself wide open to receive it.
