Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Missouri) on getting something done about high black unemployment: "A white president, frankly, could be pushed a great deal more than we would push President Obama because nobody would accuse him or her of having partiality towards African-Americans. So its a tough spot and it also mean we still have a long way to go in terms of race relations in this country and the President has, I think, moved through these troubled waters about as well as any African-American could become the first black president."

Right... So a black man gets a pas a white man would not. I'd love to see some white Representative say "We're harder on Obama about white unemployment because it's obvious he doesn't care about whites then we would a white President"

Yeah! I mean nobody has ever accused Obama of being biased towards black people...

Re: Rep. Cleaver: White President Could Be Pushed More Than What We Would Push Obama

Man listen to what he is saying for crying out loud.

The black community can not pressure Obama on black issues because as soon as he show any signs of helping the black community, Faux news and majority of the republicans would demonize him for favoring us. I mean they are already calling him the food stamp president which is insulting already.

Simply put, He can't show support to the black community like Clinton and Bush did because it is a double standard and you know it.

What madness are you speaking?

Re: Rep. Cleaver: White President Could Be Pushed More Than What We Would Push Obama

Rep Cleaver is saying that applying pressure on President Obama would not work because he is in a situation politically where he can't be seen doing things for us because the right wing media and the vast majority of republicans will spin it as "Obama having partiality toward us considering he is the first black president". Now that same pressure can be applied to a white president because that accusation would not stick.

Minorities don't get free passes. This quote probably says it best:

Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, "She doesn't have what it takes." They will say, "Women don't have what it takes." ~Clare Boothe Luce

WTH !!!! Nobody is asking for a free pass. I get tired of people always saying when we want something address in our community, we are asking for a free pass. It is a fact that unemployment hit the black community harder than any other race. We just want to start a conversation to what can be done dilute it. We are not asking for food stamps like most republicans would think. We are asking for solutions. Why is our request so much different from the rest of the country.

How did Obama get into Harvard Law School? How did his wife? How did she get into Princeton despite having mediocre grades at a public school

How did you manage to get through a Yale tax law class without understanding what a tax refund is?

Re: Rep. Cleaver: White President Could Be Pushed More Than What We Would Push Obama

How did George Bush get through college???

My apologies shewolf. I misread your post.

Yeah, if Obama's education is a joke and Bush is so stupid, and TD doesn't understand a 1040, then I guess ivy league is overrated. It's just away for minorities and rich kids to get a piece of paper that makes them feel smart and special, and gives them a obvious ego boost and false sense of self importance in some cases. I never realized that self confidence can be so costly for some people.

The more AA type programs, quotes, diversity ****, the more people assume that whoever the minority is that has been hired, picked up for college what have the more they believe that person is only there because of their skin color. Right or wrong that's human nature. Abolish that ****, MERIT is the only method for judging success.

I wouldn't know-I went to Yale as an undergraduate. I certainly know what a tax refund is. Maybe you should work on being less of a statist and stop making such inane comments towards me

Obama went to a great law school and did very well. It is how he got in there that is troubling. You seem rather envious now of both the rich and those with Ivy degrees.

He passed his courses and actually did better than either man he ran against. Gore had a bunch of Ds at harvard and failed to make it through divinity or law school. Kerry, despite being an ambitious nerd had slightly lower grades than Party-Frat boy Bush

affirmative action cheapens the degrees and achievements of minorities who really made the grade

Bingo. Hardwork is the real decider

And in a magical world where people were actually judged on merit, maybe this would work!

It's too easy to bait you TD, and I am not envious... and FTR, you didn't understand how tax refunds work (maybe no you do, IDK) and there is a thread here that proves it

White men have too much pride in themselves... They think they have earned everything above and beyond their minority co workers and peers. It's really hard to feel sorry for you guys. Maybe you don't get hired or promoted based on your merit... but oh, that couldn't be a possibility at all, a white man being unhappy with his status in life is always due to minorities around them getting favoritism.

I am glad you oppose racial preferences and affirmative action then

that seems rather a racist position. the fact is blacks get into top schools with scores far far below white males (and now white females) and Asians. The famous New Haven Firefighters case showed that blacks get jobs with inferior test scores over working class (sorry its not rich yale guys applying to be firefighters) white boys.
