With everyone (naturally) focusing on the division within the Republican ranks right now, I imagine it's worth pointing out that there are more than a few Democrats who are pretty unhappy with their leadership as well.

Sen. Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia, says he would have been impeached if he did not pass a budget when he was Governor. Below is the transcript of Manchin answering a question about the budget on today's edition of "Morning Joe" on MSNBC.

Joe Scarborough, host: "As a Democrat, as a mover of the Democratic caucus can you tell me, tell us, tell America why the Democrats in the United States Senate who run the Senate have not produced a budget for this country in three years?

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV): "I don't have an excuse. There's no excuse. I would have been impeached as Governor. I would have been impeached. I've had to put a budget together and I had to look at it."...

... and he's throwing around the "I" word. Wow.

When you govern to the left you piss off the right. When you govern to the right, you piss off the left. But when you govern incompetently, you piss off everyone. :)

2 page tops here? You didn't put Rush or Bachmann in the title so it's going to get little notice.

title rules prevent me. :(

however, perhaps this can become a thread to track what might turn out to be a recurring story:

Dem lawmaker blasts ‘Professor Obama’ as arrogant, alienating

...Early in his administration, President/Professor Obama repeatedly referred to “teaching moments.” He would admonish staff, members of Congress and the public, in speeches and in private, about what they could learn from him. Rather than the ideological or corrupt “I’m above the law” attitudes of some past administrations, President Obama projected an arrogant “I’m right, you’re wrong” demeanor that alienated many potential allies. Furthermore, the president concentrated power within the White House, leaving Cabinet members with no other option but to dutifully carry out policies with which they had limited input in crafting and might very well disagree. From my experience, this was especially true in the environmental, resources, housing and employment areas. Not by coincidence, these areas have also been responsible for much of the president’s harshest critiques...

The president’s disinterest in input from those outside his inner circle is costing him many wasted opportunities. Recently, a senator told me Obama went to his/her state, but issued an invitation for the senator to attend the event only the day before. “I represent a must-win state and lead the president in approval ratings by nearly 20 points. He was totally off-message for what my people wanted to hear. Doesn’t the White House get it? I don’t need him, he needs ME!”

Many on the Democratic side wish Hillary Clinton, Gov. Jerry Brown (Calif.), Gov. Martin O’Malley (Md.) or Gov. Andrew Cuomo (N.Y.) were running instead, but the president still has time to learn a thing or two from these skilled politicians. I’ll still take Professor Obama over the “goat rodeo clowns” the Republican field offers, but I fear the overall student body — American voters — will give him a failing grade next November if he doesn’t improve his performance .

Both Manchin & Cardoza are Blue Dog Democrats.

So the democrats haven't produced a budget, at all?

True and manchin is in quite the republican district, he got elected because he did more republican things as a democrat gov than he ever did democrat and he committed to many republican desires in his campaign...hes a Dino in the true sense of the word

Isn't Manchin up for reelection next year? It's hardly surprising that he's going to be running against Obama in West Virginia. Even under the best-case political scenario for the Democrats, I don't think Obama is going to be very popular there.

Yeah, President Obama has produced a budget each year, just like the governor of W. Va. They are both executives, not members of their legislatures. Comparing the governor of a state to leaders in Congress is a failed analogy.

Depends on what you mean by "budget." Obviously, they've got spending bills going just like every year - you can't run a government without those. That's different from a budget resolution, which is just Congress's general outline for spending, which isn't required to fund the government. It doesn't have force of law and isn't signed by the President. It's just a working document.

And as noted, Obama did indeed produce a budget proposal and send it to Congress. That's different from a budget resolution.

Manchin is a state Senator, they do not have districts. He replaced Byrd.

This graph is a little out of date (2008) but I'm not going to go to a great effort to counter something you know obviously nothing about.

WV Voter Registration by County

56% (D) 30% (R) 14% (I)

An "area" does NOT vote for Senators. So one must be a flaming lib to be legit? Rockefeller has been reliably left. Same voting "area".

I love comments like this for when people on the left start attacking and belittling conservatives for being so "extreme" as to never listen to their "reasonable moderates" and suggest the party is "hard right" because they don't support such type of candidates when they make statements crticial or counter to what hte party thinks.
