Police officer shot near Virginia Tech campus

Seems to be JUST breaking. USA Today has a timeline of what's gone on thus far. This has been a string of bad luck with Virginia Tech over the past few years.

Virginia Tech reports a police officer has been shot on or near campus and says there is a possible second victim in a parking lot. A suspect is reported to be on foot.
"Suspect remains at large," the Virginia Tech website reports.

Update at 1:23 p.m. ET: Social media immediately lit up with posts about the report of shots fired on the Virginia Tech campus.
"VaTech is on lockdown," wrote one poster on Twitter. "Hoping we don't have repeat of the past. What part of no guns at school is apparently hard to get."


Update at 1:18 p.m. ET: Virginia Tech reports that a police officer has been shot on campus and there may also be a secone victim. The shootings are reported in the Coliseum parking lot. "Stay inside. Secure doors. Emergency people are respoding," the university website tells students.

pdate at 1:02 p.m. ET: The university says shots were reported near a campus parking lot and tells students to stay inside.




Update at 12:48 p.m. ET: The Virginia Tech website says the shooting suspect is described as white male, with gray sweat pants, gray hat, with neon green brim, maroon hjoodie and backpack.

But this isn't necessarily related to V-tech . . it just happened near it - could have happened anywhere.

I don't think this falls into the same category as your own student shooting up staff and classmate

The person that just surrendered with his hands up is not under arrest. I guess it isn't the guy.

No but given it happened on campus, and the history with the VT shooter it seems like they are being extra safe.
